I'm so proud of my team to make it to the Euroleague championship this season! Smiley I must admit one thing first. I was really nervous until the final quarter. Because we were having a big trouble with rebounds. I was anxious that it could cost us the game. But we played the 4th quarter really great. We finished the job in the last one and a half minutes. Hayes and Guduric... They were awesome! Did you see Guduric's kind of game-ending 3-pointer? It reminded me of Steph Curry's shots. Tongue

Fenerbahçe Beko's roster was bad last year, but this year, especially in the guard rotation, there were no players who were not injured. The team and the coach struggled without many important players. A whole season was played without a big man, but Jasikevicius didn't listen to the insistence for a tall player transfer, he said leave it to me and managed to fit the cup in one and a half seasons. I can say that Jasikevicius not only adapted the system to the team but also his own heart. The team attacked with his ambition in every game. He is a great character, a great player and a great coach. Congratulations Jasikevicius, congratulations Fenerbahçe Beko. Thank you Fenerbahçe for giving us this pride.

We have seen Nigel Hayes-Davis and Tarik Biberovic in the EuroLeague for the last time. Tarik Biberovic will join the Memphis Grizzlies. Nigel Hayes' NBA team has not been decided yet.

I think both of them will be successful in the NBA.. Tarik came to Fenerbahçe at the age of 17 and has developed very well. Now it's time for the NBA.
Good luck. I find such departures normal in teams that have won the Euroleague championship.

An interesting statistic caught my attention. We defeated Panathinaikos and Monaco, who we lost to in both matches during the regular season, once and won the Euroleague championship.

Of course, we were not able to play in some matches due to injuries during the season. We had a nice victory when the team was on the field with a full team on Friday and Sunday.

Especially when Guduric's three-point shot went in in the last minutes of the match, I said, okay, the victory is ours.
The last minutes are usually difficult and troublesome, but yesterday was easy.

Congrats to Fener. Against the odds, Jasikevicius and his team managed to conquer the top of this season's EuroLeague. The team played a great game overall, especially from Guduric, who actually killed any effort Monaco tried to recover and take the lead in the match. Important 3-point shots when the ball was hot.

It's well known that the NBA is a very different story from the EuroLeague. Great EuroLeague players, even MVPs, didn't succeed as they expected on the other side of the Atlantic. The Memphis Grizzlies are looking for a low-payroll and budget "small forward" player and their 2 options from the EU are Biberovic and Ward. If they choose Biberovic, Ward will most likely end up on the Olympiakos team. However, the fastest move (and biggest so far) came from Panathinaikos since they signed TJ Shorts and locked their playmaker position. It seems that we will see a very hot transfer period. Tongue

I see there is plenty of Fenerbahche fans here. Congratulations to you with a great win.
Very happy for Saras Jasikevicius. He is first man to win Euroleague as player and coach. And first Lithuanian coach who won Euroleague. His tears after the game says all.
Now it's time for playoffs in national leagues.

Against the odds, but it's not that they were complete underdogs. We have cases in past when format of final four played huge favor for underdogs. But when it comes to Fener, if they would play best of 5 seeies with Pao, Oly or Monaco, their chances would be high enough.

Pretty easy final for Fenerbahce in the end. They won it easily and Guduric played an amazing match and for me was the clutch player of the final. They deserved to win the entire thing and i wonder how good they will be next season. Nobody expected Fenerbahce to win it in the end.

What are you talking about, easy win. They were down 9 in the 1st quarter, they were down 9 in the 2nd quarter, they were up 3 after the 3rd and only pulled away in the 4th to seal the deal. That is in no regard an easy win!
The 11 point difference is only free throws where they made 22/26 compared to 11/14 . 17 of those free throws came in the 4th quarter. These stats are actually crazy for me. 17 ft for 10 fouls committed while Monaco get 6 ft for 8 fouls committed.

Easy win he says.  Roll Eyes

The only problem was most at first half. Fenerbahce won later second third and fourth quarter and they kept having a lead with more then 5-6 always in last quarter. I honestly expected a much close final. The free throws were also the key in this match for Fenerbahce to win the match.

That's true, besides, they had around 25 mil euros budget and were among the top 5 of this year's competition. You can't say that was such a surprise. But playing the semi-final against the previous Champions, they were the underdogs. Playing against Monaco wasn't. Wink

What are you talking about, easy win. They were down 9 in the 1st quarter, they were down 9 in the 2nd quarter, they were up 3 after the 3rd and only pulled away in the 4th to seal the deal. That is in no regard an easy win!

I couldn't agree more. The final point difference doesn't reflect the difficulty of the game. At first glance, it seemed like an easy game, but it wasn't, and if someone reads the numbers correctly will understand it. The crucial period was the 3rd, in which Fener gave it all and had the "luck" to complete in a great percentage their strategy. As for the fouls, as I said earlier, I don't want to drag this matter into it. I'm sure though, that if the same statistic were the other team around, Saras will argue the refs and the EuroLeague until now...

It's not official yet, but there will be 20 teams in the Euroleague next season and here's the list of possible teams.

🇪🇸Real Madrid
🇪🇸 Barcelona
🇪🇸 Baskonia
🇪🇸 Valencia
🇮🇱 Maccabi Tel Aviv
🇮🇱 Hapoel Tel Aviv
🇹🇷Anadolu Efes
🇹🇷Fenerbahce Beko
🇬🇷 Olympiacos
🇬🇷Panathinaikos
🇩🇪Bayern Munich
🇫🇷 Paris Basketball
🇫🇷 AS Monaco
🇫🇷ASVEL
🇮🇹 Olimpia Milano
🇮🇹 Virtus Bologna
🇷🇸 Red Star
🇷🇸 Partizan
🇦🇪Dubai Basketball
🇱🇹Žalgiris Kaunas

I am most curious about the Dubai Basketball team. They need to build a very solid team. After football, Arabs are also getting into basketball.

I find it interesting that the Euroleague management has not yet accepted Russian teams.
If the excuse is war, the situation is no different in Israel. Euroleague without CSK is tasteless. I hope the war ends soon so we can see Russian teams in Euroleague again.
It is always exciting to have a competitive league.
I am also curious about the team Dubai Basket will form.
If they make a good offer to Mike James, he will leave without hesitation.
I don't know if he is still under contract with Monaco.

Actually the situation IS different, but anyway we should keep political stuff out of this.

At some point sooner or later I guess we will see Russian teams in the EL again, no clue though when this will happen. About Dubai, it's actually such a shame adding them into this. Maybe they should start thinking about renaming the league as well, right. I mean what part of Europe is Dubai??
It's also a burden to all the other teams since they have to make long flights for their games in that region.  Roll Eyes

Well, it is what it is, tradition is kicked out of the conversation real quick when it's all about money and nothing else anymore.

When Qatar hosted the World Cup, the power of money was felt. The leagues in Europe were stopped. Because the cup started in November.

With the power of money, the guys even organized the World Cup.

I think that the Arab League teams will soon compete in the Champions League. This is not too far away. Maybe in 3-5 years.

I was surprised when the Arabs got involved in basketball. They will transfer players with astronomical amounts of money.

They have a lot of money. As you said, there will be more Arableague than Euroleague. I think that Arabia and Qatar will also establish basketball teams soon.
I want a competitive and quality Euroleague. There should be no Israeli teams either, but at least they have been here for a long time and there is no point in expelling them. Don't buy teams like Dubai Basket. What will happen if Russian teams come in 1-2 years? Will the one who pays more money be in the Euroleague?

Unfortunately, politics seems to be preventing this.😔

We all know that if they want someone, they can get them without a problem and all of them would be more than happy. Mike James signed a new 3-year contract on 14 June 2024. So, he is a Monaco player until 2027. If Dubai BC wants him, they need to pay Monaco as well.

Non commercial flights still fly the same route as commercial flight. They are not faster all of the sudden.  Grin

About Israel, you are right. For some reason both with FIBA and FIFA/UEFA they always belong to the European sector for whatever reason. At least they are closes than the Emirates, haha. Money always talks unfortunately.  Cry

Yeah, situation is different, but politics should be discussed in other topics. It's only question of time when CSKA will return, after all, they still have A license. But there can't be any talk about  their return as long as war continues.
BTW, Israel teams playing in neutral locations and empty arenas isn't something what Euroleague needs. Watching Maccabi games reminds covid times.
Wondering how Dubai home games will look. Team with no history, fans in location where nobody cares about basketball. But these long trips to Dubai will be advantage for home team, especially on double weeks. Something similar like Gran Canaria in Eurocup, they're almost unbeatable at home.

The same part as Israel. Roll Eyes
Or Turkey, most part of country isn't in Europe Wink. Anyway, closest Euroleague city from Dubai is Istanbul. But if ge from Istanbul, it's still more far away than any other Euroleague city. I guess that trips might be bigger or smaller factor next season.

CSKA will probobly return to euroleague after the war is finished fully. Until then they wont return because of the too much stuff going on. Maybe they will return in 2-3 years. For Isreal teams i think they will return to home court in next season because there isnt much going on there now so i think we might see both Maccabi and Hapoel playing at home.

Non commercial flights still fly the same route as commercial flight. They are not faster all of the sudden.  Grin

Well, you have the wrong impression. Non-commercial flights can have a different, faster route depending on the reason, they don't have to follow the same routes. Can use direct routes. Plus, they don't have layovers, use a private terminal, and can indeed get higher speeds than commercial ones. Check it out. Wink

About Israel, you are right. For some reason both with FIBA and FIFA/UEFA they always belong to the European sector for whatever reason. At least they are closes than the Emirates, haha. Money always talks unfortunately.  Cry

It's more than obvious what the real reason for this is, isn't it?

BTW, Israel teams playing in neutral locations and empty arenas isn't something what Euroleague needs. Watching Maccabi games reminds covid times.

That goes for them as well for their away games in all the other cities. Indeed, they don't have such a fan base but I'm sure that they will find a good motive to have fans in their home games. Like, pay them... Grin

It's true that since there will be more teams, we will have more trips and more fatigue for all of them. But you count distances like a normal person, while we are talking about teams. And teams don't count as normal passengers, nor do they use the same routes as we do. If with this system teams feel more tired, then imagine what they will feel if the Euroleague cooperates with the NBA... Cheesy

While Spanish ACB only ending regular season, we already have final in Greece. And in 1st game Panathinaikos achieved confident win. Didn't watched whoe game, but from what I saw Oly looked very dull. I wouldn't be surprised if loss in the final wouldf end Bartzokas era at Olympiacos.

Yeah, they're flying with charters, but still it's it's long trips. Actually, it's one of things what I don't like about NBA. When you have regular season of 82 games, value of each game is very low, you spend more time travelling than training. When playoffs begins in NBA we see completely different game.

Indeed Panathinaikos had a very confident game while Olympiakos looked lost and shocked since their failure in the Final Four. They will need to gather their pieces and show a better face in the next game. Idk if Olympiakos loses the series and the title it will be the end of Bartzokas, but for sure his place will be under fire.

In this perspective, you are right, but what can they do? Make the league smaller with fewer teams? This will mean lower sales, tickets, ads, and anything that brings profit for them. They don't care if the players can stand such a schedule or what consequences will have to any of them in the long term. They care about making more money and that means more teams, more trips, more games, more, more, and more.
