Yep, thinking about previous loss actually the main reason why someone can become an addict because they gamble solely for money.

They need to eliminate such thought because if they're always think about the past, they can't enjoy their life, this is not only about gambling. It difficult going ones way to succeed in giving someone help when they don't even agree that they need helping. Op friend doesn't even agree that he has turned addict as a gambler, to him it's just a loss he made that he is chasing to recover from the casino or gamble site. It is only when he succumbs to the fact that he has turned a gambling addict and needs to stop that when every single help provided for him can be effective otherwise not even a rehabilitation support can make a different.

What I think is that op friend has lost his mind, he's not really in his real sense of mind knowing how much of an amount $64k he lost to gambling just like that. Well in any matter, the moment that you cannot influence your mind or control your behavior. There's a greater chance for you to lose your money in gambling.
