Gambling can be fun is TRUE.
But what if this hobby leads to addiction and they consider it a source of income? It still exists, even though many people think it shouldn't be but other people always think like this.

While there are many other types of hobbies outside of gambling, if the hobby can be made better then it makes money, not with gambling only limited to the fun in betting the favorite team.

Gambling can be a hobby when it's done for fun and entertainment purposes only , it only becomes an addiction when you get caught up by greed and trying to get rich with it over night.. gambling for fun simply means you are staking what you can afford to lose knowing that it's a 50/50 thing, it's either you win or lose..it' can be considered to be a hobby in this regard done for the purpose of just relaxing your nerves and having fun. There is no need for agument or trying to prove a point to your friend that gambling is a hobby, as we all know when someone continue doing same thing for a long period of time from a day to a week, from a week to month, from months to years continuously, it becomes a hobby. A hobby is doing something that pleases you constantly, effortless and tiredlesly. I saw a video that passed on my social media with the quote "gambling is a game for the rich, but it is serious for the poor" I think this is true, because most people who gamble with the wrong assumption as you said are people whose financial situation is middle to lower like poor people who hope to get a big win that can change their life situation for the better with the victory that can be obtained in gambling.
