Funny enough there is no difference between some who take gambling as a hobby and those who are addicted to gambling. They have one thing in common which is they gamble regularly without limit. Gambling can be a hobby as you have said but to be frank in the ears of some other people, it might sound awkward to them that people take gambling for such because some people already have conditioned their minds to the fact that gamblers are irresponsible and as such do not see them as people to reckon with in the society.

I don't agree totally with you. If you say gambling is a hobby yes I agree with you however if someone should say gambling is his hobby because of the money involved, or because of the jackpot he admires to hit some day, then ill say he's just been naive. Hobbies  are things you just love doing for mostly emotional reasons and not a money or cash benefit factor.

This discussion reminds me of a discussion I engaged in few hours ago on the forum where the gist was mainly about mining as a hobby. My point was simply if you are mining to solely make profit they you are not a hobby miner. You should also understand that an hobby can become an addiction with time. If you like dancing and you take it upon yourself to be dancing everyday. It will get to a point that if you don't dance in a day, you might not get yourself. Although this might have a little differences when it comes to gambling. Most reason why we become addicted to gambling is because of the urge to keep making money from gambling without even taking a rest. You are absolutely right that any harmful drug or addiction that has the potential to cause massive harm to society is actually compared as a bad addiction but never as a bad hobby. Gardening is a hobby but this hobby never creates harmful effects on the society but drinking alcohol or beedi causes bad or harmful effects on the society so it is an addiction.
Likewise, gambling is a bad addiction because it greatly helps in the organization of various types of crimes in the society, especially heinous crimes like theft, robbery and kidnapping are usually caused by this gambling.
So no matter how much gambling is considered as a source of entertainment it is an addiction never a hobby.

Everyone who gambles for money will be disappointed because it's unlikely that they'll hit their goal on a daily basis and compare it with their daily rate from their employment or jobs.

That's why, gamble only with the aim of having it as a hobby and to have fun. Limits should also be there and don't gamble with what you cannot afford to lose. It'll make you crazy when you lose it and you'll get into that cycle that you'll have hard time to break.
