Full results after the first legs of last 16:

32 goals in total... A great goal duel we watched!  Smiley  Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and PSG were the top scorers in this leg. They are the clearest quarter finalists currently to me.

I would already like to congratulate Bodø/Glimt on their quarter finals qualification unless there is a big comeback by Sporting. Good luck to Galatasaray! They will really need it at Anfield...

The second leg is City's home match. City might perform well and win. But it is very unlikely that they will win by 3 goals. Because Real Madrid is a very experienced team. Although their performance is inconsistent, the players are very talented. And after winning by 3 goals, Real Madrid will definitely play defensively in the second leg and try to draw the match. If a strong squad like Madrid plays defensively, it is a big challenge for any giant team to beat them. Madrid will qualify for the quarter-finals anyway.

Madrid is not the type of team that plays defensively to avoid defeat or aim for a draw, and if they play that game directly they also give Manchester City a chance to turn things around because it will make it easier for Pep to play his tiki taka game, I think Madrid should play as usual for the second leg even though they are playing away they are experienced at the Etihad Stadium.

There is no doubt that Real Madrid performed excellently in this match. Even I am sure Madrid fans expected Madrid to play so well in this match. Valverde scored a hat-trick in the first half. At the same time, every attack of City was able to be blocked by Madrid's defenders. In the second half, Vini could not score from the penalty spot. If he had scored this goal, Madrid would have won 4-0.

I hope vini is being this much of a jerk only because he’s looking for a way out after the World Cup. Fine, you earned the penalty. But just hand the ball to Valverde and let the man complete his hat trick history. One goal more or less won't change anything for you... you're a forward, you'll score eventually. It was Valverde's night. If you’d stepped aside, everyone would have looked at you with pure respect...
This is because he opposes penalties after Mbappe. When Mbappe doesn't play Vini takes the penalty. This was the coach's decision, so there's probably nothing wrong with the penalty decision, but it's a shame Vini failed to score as that goal would have given Madrid a comfortable lead in the second leg.

No one expected Madrid performance in the first leg. Many said Madrid would lose due to numerous injuries, but this is Real Madrid, they always surprise in the UCL. Madrid play in this match was truly solid, with the defenders, midfielders and attackers looking very united. With several young players starting, such as Pitarch, they brought a sense of enthusiasm to the team. The solid defense of Rudiger and Huijsen kept Halland from moving and lastly goalkeeper Courtois always impressed. Yes, we must give Valverde credit he's the most versatile player at Madrid. He's also good at playing out of position, in central midfield, on the wing and at right-back. Congratulations on your hat-trick.

I highly doubt Newcastle will be a problem for Barcelona. While I understand that the first game did not ended as well as they hoped for, yes that is true, and I understand things aren't looking as great as they hoped. But that doesn't mean that we are going to see this becoming the norm, we are going to see things change one way or another and we just have to face that fact.

So as much as we try to make this work, we can't really think that Newcastle would have any chance on the second game.
Hansi Flick must have learned from yesterday's first leg and knows Newcastle United's weaknesses. I also think Barcelona won't lose at Camp Nou. It's their home ground, and that's where they'll be playing against Newcastle United on the 19th.
If they don't learn from yesterday's match, it will be very disappointing.
I was almost scared for Barcelona after witnessing how the Newcastle side tackled Barcelona in the game. At first when the game started I thought it was going to be a straight win from the side of the Barcelona considering the poor performance of the Newcastle United at the league level and the great performance from Barcelona at the league level. But football is not something which is this easily predicted and a team might be doing bad at the domestic level but mysterious performing awesomely at the champions league level. Past the first half, I thought Barcelona were going to come back harder to make some good wins at the second half but I didn’t see much improvement from them and I can say the lucky goal scored by Yamal was as a result of the pressure from the first goal scored by the Newcastle United. If not for the benefit of the injury time, the match would have ended with Barcelona defeated.
Bro "lucky goal" is under selling it lol. That penalty had NOTHING to do with Barcelona playing better. Thiaw tripped a man who was walking away from goal. It was tiredness. Pure and simple tiredness.

On paper Barcelona should've been comfortable. They're top of the league, Newcastle are in danger of barely surviving domestically. Makes sense to assume. But like. Football keeps doing this thing where the context on paper just doesn't translate and i genuinely don't know why we keep expecting it to.

What got me though was Howe sending burn FORWARD from a free kick in the 92nd minute. You've got a 1-0 lead! Trippier (who'd already come off) was screaming at the lads to calm down. Shearer has said it live: just hold it.

But they didn't and the game went on longer than it needed to and then Thiaw's leg went where it shouldn't have.

Yamal had zero dribbles. Zero. That's insane for him.

To be honest, I was also shocked to see City and Madrid play because it's true the English club was devastated in the first leg of this UCL round of 16. We noticed in the Real Madrid team that Mbappe and Bellingham were not there, yet they were playing with dominance in the first leg of the UCL knockout stage, and it was obvious to everyone that Valverde was the hero of Madrid's victory in this glorious game,it's surprising that this player has been shining so brightly in the last two matches because to my idea he also scored the winning goal against Celta Vigo. You are right that City need to score four goals in the second leg to stay in the UCL this season and it seems like it will be difficult for them to win from this second leg game.
This was a surprising result as the two players that Real Madrid depended on to maintain their winning streak were missing. It is not that Manchester City played badly either as they had almost 60% of the ball in their favour but failed to score. It is impressive that Valverde played brilliantly in the match without Mbappe and Bellingham and scored three goals. Real Madrid left the field with a three-goal victory thanks to his extraordinary performance. It may seem unbelievable to some that Real Madrid will win 3-0 in this crucial first leg match for the last 16 of the Champions League and I was surprised when I watched the match. This will be an important achievement for Real Madrid to reach the quarter-finals and give them confidence to win the second leg.
It's not that Manchester City played badly, but I would say they weren't as aggressive as they needed to be to win the first leg of the UEFA Champions League round of 16. If you look at the squads of this team between Manchester City and Real Madrid, City was relatively strong, but one Uruguayan player on the field made the difference in the match. It really seems to me Valverde became a symbol of hope for Madrid in that Champions League match, it's amazing that this player, with his single-handed skill, brought victory back to his team in the most difficult match. By the way, we can now say that if City cannot stop Madrid in the second leg, then the La Liga giants will be able to reach the quarter-finals of the UCL.

The only Seria A club in the UCL might be out of the UCL except something extraordinary happens. Maybe three Bayern Munich players get red cards Cheesy. The first second round games didn't go well for Premier League sides. None of them won their matches. Arsenal and Liverpool have high chances to progress to the next phase.  While others will need to be very lucky to make it to the quarterfinals..
Might? For a team that was already knocked out even before they kicked the ball for the Round of 16. Yes, I said so because it was already clear that Bayern Munich was going to run them over but I wasn't expecting it to even be over in the first leg. Right now Bayern Munich has already qualified for the next stage and only needs to field their team C against Atlanta for the return leg but I'm fully aware that Kompany will not do that as Bayern Munich is used to disgracing it's opponent whenever they get chance to do that. It's a done deal already, even if UEFA permits Atlanta to borrow players from International Milan and AC Milan to include in their squad for the return leg, it's already over because Bayern Munich will still beat them.

Madrid is not a team that can be easily taken down like that. They may be ahead at the moment, but I doubt Man City can catch up on the goal difference from the first leg. If it is very possible to beat Madrid, I guess Man City might not chase the goal difference. The second leg will definitely show drama, but it is also possible that the match could be very surprising.

I underestimated Real Madrid before their first leg match due to their players injuries, I was confident that Manchester City would beat them but the results I saw were very embarrassing. And in my opinion with the performance of Real Madrid in that game, I doubt if Manchester City will catch with the goal difference in the second leg.

Full results after the first legs of last 16:

Football is unpredictable but honestly it will be very difficult for sporting to beat Bodø/Glimt in the second leg because Bodø is ready to challenge strongly against any team now. In my opinion Real Madrid is also one of the clearest team to qualify to the quarter finals, Bayern Munich, Atletico Madrid and PSG is also clear that they have qualified.

Real Madrid might stick to a more balanced strategy and will still get a goal(s) while also most conceding but in the end we expect them to qualify. The thing is they wont be stressing themselves and that's a plus already for them especially with their injury crisis currently.

How did you expect Real Madrid to play a defensive game, even if they are winning by a high margin? Although I know Manchester City will try to make a comeback, we all know that it will be very hard for them to do that comeback. We all know that Madrid are not performing that well, but still I don’t think they will be able to let themselves down or lose the chance of making it further in the Champions League. So let’s wait and see how the game will later be.

I think it makes sense for Real Madrid to play in their usual style of play, as they have a specific style. If they deviate from their usual style, it will be a game they're not used to, and they might concede a lot of goals in England. So they should focus on playing as usual and scoring goals. Because Manchester City will inevitably have to attack and leave some gaps in their defense.

If Real Madrid plays defensive football, they might run into problems because Manchester City habe sharp forwards that can score at every given opportunity. The combination of Haaland and Semenyo is all that is needed to turn the match around if Real Madrid slack in.that match. The only way out for Real Madrid is to come out and play as if thy did not have any form of advantage. This will make them hungry for goals because they need to score at least one goal to cement their winning and qualification.

They absolutely must not become complacent in this match. They should play as if it were the first game, and play as if it were 0-0. Otherwise, I'm sure Manchester City could cause them problems in England. It will be a critical 90 minutes for Real Madrid. At the end of this match, they will most likely qualify for the quarter-finals. However, Guardiola must be working tirelessly on tactics against Real Madrid right now.

Real Madrid are impressive and they always do everything they can to try to win, they won't hold back against anything or anyone, much less the challenges that are put in front of them, i have to say that this year the championship is quite balanced and they are all more or less at the same level so there will be increasingly better matches.
I was one of those people who thought that City will easily have a win. Now I look at the second game and I do not think that they have a chance to beat with 3 goal margins. I get that it is not going to be impossible neither but it is going to be very tough. Normally with the way Real Madrid has too many players missing, it was obvious that they would be at disadvantage and for that reason I think everyone, including me, thought that Real Madrid would lose.

However Valverde did what nobody thought could be done and he scored hattrick to bring them the victory, that's actually great for Real Madrid. Goes to show you that we are seeing them do a fine job whenever they do what they do, and if Real plays well, they are one of the best if not the best team in the world.

Bodø/Glimt have reached this stage thanks to their superb performance in home matches. You know how they beat all those teams there. They even beat Atletico and Inter away as well!

The teamwork is at peak level... After beating Sporting 3-0 they are so close to quarter finals too. Their potential opponent is Arsenal there. But I feel like that would be the point they say goodbye to the tournament.
This team is never stopped to suprised me that before the game begin i thought Sporting can easily to beat Bodø/Glimt and the team who will went to the next stage is Sporting but unfortunately Sporting is the next victim of Bodø/Glimt that although for the second leg Sporting playing as a host i think it's hard for them to catch up goal deficit and i think Sporting journey has been done and Bodø/Glimt will went to quarterfinal however i think this is like a fairy tale that this season there is a underrated team in the middle of competition liked Bodø/Glimt who can beat several big teams

I underestimated Real Madrid before their first leg match due to their players injuries, I was confident that Manchester City would beat them but the results I saw were very embarrassing. And in my opinion with the performance of Real Madrid in that game, I doubt if Manchester City will catch with the goal difference in the second leg.
Honestly I also surprised with kind of performances that Real Madrid were able to display in their first leg. Because I wasn’t expecting that they will  even have one goal against Manchester City base on how challenges their facing all this while in most of their previous matches, but with their much efforts they where able to got a positive results with a clean goals.

Their first leg has prove that even in the second leg Manchester City has nothing to do with them except Real Madrid lose guard in the second leg, but if they can use the same pattern they use play Manchester City in that first leg I’m sure they can still secure three points their next match.

Real Madrid are not going to defend, they currently don't even have the defensive prowess to opt for that strategy.

Real Madrid might stick to a more balanced strategy and will still get a goal(s) while also most conceding but in the end we expect them to qualify. The thing is they wont be stressing themselves and that's a plus already for them especially with their injury crisis currently.

I think of that too, real madrid are big club and they won't like to defend for big game like this and I get the believe that Madrid will do everything possible to get victory against Manchester City in there next game i no he won't be so easy for them to defeat Manchester City at home. We will see in the second leg and know who will get the opportunity to qualify for the next round. All the Premier league tough team didn't win there first leg of the Champions League last week and everyone really surprised in the competition and I don't really know who can get the opportunity to qualify to the next round. Arsenal and Liverpool have more hope then other club in the competition and we will see how he will goes next week.

Real shouldn’t have a problem getting to the 1/4 final now. They have a commanding lead, it would take something shocking to lose their 1/4 final spot from here. I do think that they will find it difficult in a potential 1/4 final though because I think Bayern are better than them.

Bayern Munich are currently in better shape than Arsenal. Arsenal barely salvaged a draw in their previous Champions League match. Kai Havertz's penalty brought them the equalizer. Bayern Munich, on the other hand, are playing consistently well in every game. They scored six goals away against Atalanta, which is a tremendous number. If they are drawn against Real Madrid in the next round, Real Madrid's chances are very slim. I think Bayern Munich are the team most likely to win the trophy this year.

Well I won't say much because we can't really tell how the second leg will look like, the impression in the first leg has given people enough reason to believe it is over for Manchester city and Chelsea. I'm actually surprised at Chelsea losing 5:2 to Paris Saint Germain they took club word cup from  and that of Real Madrid is not that surprising because we know Real Madrid itself is champions league so I can't be that surprise as they can defeat any team whether inform or not. People were judging that game based on form that Real Madrid will not be able to win but actually did and I don't see Manchester city coming back.
Every speculation about what the outcome of the second leg might be is hanged on how the first leg results has being and that's only logical to think that teams like Chelsea and Manchester City among other English teams in this round of 16 doesn't have a good chance of making it to the quarter finals of the competition. The rhythm of the game may change in the second leg but the feasibility as of now is what a lot of persons are not seeing.

It's not easy indeed, but never underestimate Pep Guardiola, a coach with a wealth of tactical options and the ability to handle pressure. It's worth remembering that Manchester City once defeated Real Madrid 4-0 at the Etihad Stadium. I'm optimistic that Manchester City will stage a comeback in the second leg.

Yes, there are always surprises, and that might happen. They have that chance, and it seems this match will be very exciting. Remember at Bernabeu, Man City dominated possession; the only problem was poor finishing. This advantage might give Man City an opportunity. The key is that Man City must score quickly. This is a shock therapy for Madrid. If this works, then the next goals will be easier to score because surely the mentality of Madrid players will drop and they will face heavy pressure from the fans.

I don't see that happening, I believe it won't. The major reason I feel it can't happen is Manchester city, yea. They are the reason it can't happen..they are not at there very best. They Aren not solid, they aren't as good as they used to be, so, they can't perform any magic at all. Even though they may win, but they can't overturn that 3:0 win Margin. It's just too bad for them that they allowed it so big, and I think it's game over for them in the champions league
