Nigeria Super Eagles Goals in the tournament.



Quarter Final Fixtures. From 9-12 January, 2026. Don't miss this games, the Tournament is about to be intense. More inspiration coming. If Nigeria beat Algeria then there is likelihood that they will win the Cup. And if they do, then they have compensated this to the World Cup.

This Afcon is going to be really crazy so non of the small teams even made it to the quarter finals. Unlike the previous one that was played in  ivory coast. The  big nations really wants to win this. So Nigeria needs to be fully focused on all the games. I know they are still some misunderstandings between some players, but they need to resolve it Asap so that our opponents won't use it as weak point. After watching that Algeria vs DRC match and confident that Nigeria has the chance to win them Algeria.

I didn't expect the Super Eagles to perform like this in the African Cup of Nations, so I must say that the performance of the Super Eagles has been impressive, and the Super Eagles team looks quite different in the African Cup of Nations, and they have a good scoring rate, which is a good advantage for the Super Eagles because it can help them out score their opponents and win the African Cup of Nations.

When I looked at their performance so far in the African cup of nations, I became even more angry why we did not make it to the world cup happening later in the year. They have been nothing short of superb in this African cup of nations, but if you look at the performance of the south Africans, the team that qualifies instead of our own super eagles, it makes me even more annoyed that a low level team like that will qualify, and we are not going.
This is why I still get angry anytime I think of Finidi George, because he is the main reason we were unable to qualify for the world cup, but right now, with the kind of top level performance of our super eagles, we are definitely one of the favorites to win it.

How could he say that the pressure is on him to win the Nations Cup, is he the only player in the team? and who is giving him pressure? apart from the fact that he will be given special credits if Nigeria wins the Nations Cup, what else.

There is a lot of expectation for the super eagles to win this title and it would only serve to soothe the wounds of not qualifying for the world cup if they win it eventually. They have the team and the coordination to win it and I wish them well.

So far as football is concerned, only the coach has the capacity to charge and shout on players when they are not doing well and in this game against Mozambique the Super Eagles were doing just fine so there was no need for that drama that Osimhem displayed against his teammates.

The captain has that right too to coordinate the players on the pitch and call them to order when they are not performing in accordance with the team tactics. But Osimhen was not the best captain with his conduct on the pitch, his behavior was even worse than that of the rude Bruno Fernandez of Manchester united. A captain should do more of encouraging his team members and correcting them gently, but Osimhen chose the harsh way to do his duties on the pitch.

For Algeria I don't think we'd have much to worry about them from whatbibhave seen them display in this competition even in the game they won at extra time, they were terrible and I wasn't expecting them to struggle much with Congo and I said to my friend that these two countries can't withstand Nigeria and the can't beat the Eagles and that's what will happen.

In the beginning of the competition, I believe Algeria looked better than many clubs including Nigeria but honestly from what I saw so far, we cannot compare Algeria to Super Eagles. The gap between these two nations is big and Nigerians should win easily their game. I don't expect a lot of resistance from the Algerian squad.
In the other matches, Senegal will have an easy victory, otherwise Morocco and Egypt will have hard games. Egypt might quit the competition. Morocco can pass with difficulties.

I thought I was the only one who saw it that way, having Algeria display what they just did shows weakness because at this stage of the competition it is now that we have to identify countries that are up to the task, not just that but with which country that can withstand pressure from opposition countries, Algeria can't if they face a more tougher side.
The round of 16 to the quarter finals is a different ball game and the performance should change but Algeria's performance reduced completely, no dominance, as the big side they needed to keep pressing to secure a win not at extra time, instead they started displaying performance they're to bring out in the group stage. To be frank with you the Algerian side was very lucky and I believe they're going to run out of luck sooner than they think. If I'm to compare between the Super Eagles and the Algerian side who poses more threat I think the Eagles have more problems to give to the defenders of Algeria, till Saturday.

Dr Congo might seem like less competition over Algeria but I strongly feel it's not true because this same Congo have been unbeaten in the group stages, same as Algeria so it would be a struggle for the both sides. I'm not expecting Algeria to also seat on their horse and underestimate their opponents so it's going to be tough. Who knows, first half could even end in a draw.

For this first half, the match was quite boring because both teams had difficulty creating chances into each other's goals, or maybe because this is a life and death match so both teams are very careful, but I think it is likely that this first half will be closed without a goal, I hope they increase the intensity of the game, after all it is not interesting if the match goes like this.

Yeah, I feel it was that way because Algeria never expected DR Congo to be so tight in defense and match their attack head on so as such Algeria could not penetrate and do to them the same thing they've being doing to other teams. Honestly, it looked scripted, Algeria ending up being the ones to qualify because if we're being honest, Congo displayed confidence and calm better than the Algerians and even though they were unfortunate, it should have been Congo qualifying and not Algeria.

Finidi George?! To an extent but not vexed the with the way I channel mine whenever the Nigerian football federation comes to mind. They should have done proper homework before employment of incompetence. They're killing the sports and dreams of millions with so many wrong decisions and greed. I've quit complaining about it, I just want to watch the game and enjoy it. I also, would love to give Alex Iwobi his flowers, he was effective against Mozambique. Algeria next, I'm sure we move ahead to the next round.

It would be more accurate to say that Tanzania was unlucky and should have been awarded a penalty against Morocco, but Algeria and Congo were fairly evenly matched and there were no controversial refereeing decisions in that game. Algeria was lucky that in the 119th minute, Adil Boulebina made a fantastic shot and scored an unexpected goal.

Now we are looking forward to one of the most interesting quarterfinal matches between Algeria and Nigeria, but considering Algeria's last game, I think Nigeria will be the clear favorite

You are right that our NFF has a major role to play in these, because if they didn't hire someone as incompetent as Finidi George, our super eagles wouldn't have missed out on this upcoming world cup tournament.
Why I added Finidi George to the equation was that it was under his management that our super eagles lost so many key points that would have taken us to the world cup.
What he was more concerned about is by having problems with most of the key players that would have gave us the results we wanted. It's really annoying that a team like south Africa will be going to the world cup and our super eagles are not, Finidi George and those that were the cause of our super eagles not qualifying should have been arrested, and flogged like fifty strokes of Cain, nonsense.

It's important to hear from the other party first before passing judgment sometimes, though he over reacted, but he came out yesterday to make a statement why he was that angry at not just lookman, but with most of the Nigerian players, just that lookman was made the escape goat.

He said that he was angry because three zero was not enough, that it can be easily overturned, as we saw in the game against tunisia that they were just lucky to hold on to.
He said the reason he reacted that way was that when the Nigerian team didn't make it to the world cup, he was the one almost everyone was pointing fingers at, so that was when he knew the weight on his shoulder, since he was the face of the team, that this Afcon is the only way to appease Nigerian.
So if they start being complacent and lost their lead, he will still be pointed finger at, so that was why he wasn't happy that lookman wasted that goal scoring opportunities added with other remote cause that the super eagles players have became relaxed after getting only three goals.
He has apologized to the team and Nigerians, so it's best we move on from this.

The issues has been resolved, according to the team administrator 'Dayo Enebi' the boys are in order now, however, Osihmen's behavior should be cautioned on a strict warning of being penalize if a thing like this happens again. He shouldn't be allowed to normalize a terrible habit, else he'd embarrass the nation again on other international meetings.

He doesn't look or act as a player with anger issues but he seem as one on the match because he wasn't ready to listen to anybody that wants to calm him and is not right because he will disrespect himself from the players that respect him more than the rest, even if it was because of goal he would have scored it shouldn't have lead to any disagreement because they have already scored 4 goals against Mozambique. Osimhen should learn how to stop creating a scene like that on the field and is also a disrespectful to ask your coach against his plans to substitute you when you did not sustain any injury.

This thread has had 5 new pages of posts since I asked, and you were the only one who responded... I would have expected more experts to chime in.

Everyone else was busy criticizing on one National team or another, and sometimes even forget to read through the whole discussion. I've asked a couple of unanswered questions in this section and that only made me realize that genuine conversations are rare to have in here.

This is the kind of performance we want to see from the Super Eagles. I’d have been disappointed if we won by a narrow margin. I’m very proud of our players, from the highlights I watched, they seem to be playing more cohesively than before. I also noticed the altercation between Osimhen and Lookman, can someone fill me in on what happened?

Yea, they seem very good and perfect, and all is going well with them. They have played 4/4, 4 games, 4 wins in all. I hope they continue with such power and Victory from the quarter finals down to the finals and then bring the cup home to Nigeria.

About Victor and Lookman, I don't really know what the problem is, but from recent news, they have settled there differences and are one now, and with a positive mindset to work together and bring the cup home. I just hope it's for real and it doesn't have any negative impact on them in there next game. Goodluck to them

Right now in the competition there are small teams especially in this round, it's going to be a balanced game for both sides because none of the teams would be regarded as underdogs, Algeria has a good team with a very interesting attacking line whereas DR Congo is a physical team that can defend and also attack simultaneously so it's going to be a game of chance and only the better side would progress to the next round.

What you said is actually happening. The both teams have played 120 minutes without a winner. It seem the strength are equal, none of them is considered as an underdog or the favorite side to win here. However, one team must win, no matter how they  performed, and when it comes to penalty shoot out, I believe it is out of luck any team win. The most pressing team might win in the penalty shoot out or they may lose because luck is what is depended when the game gets to the penalty shootout.

I have seen some of the toughest games in this AFCON tournament and the game between Algeria and Dr Congo was one of those, both sides playing with in mind what fate awaits them upon a sudden lose at this round of the tournament. Unfortunately for the Congo's, and fortunately for Algeria, at the point we thought it was going to go into penalty shootouts, Boulbina struck the hearts of the Congolese with a winning goal in the 119th minutes taking Algeria to the quarter finals and cancelling all expectations for a penalty shootout.

You might take out time to watch the highlights of these games. You would see that African football keeps improving as the year goes on. Some fans believed that the Super Eagles wasted so many chances that would have helped Victor Osimhen to become the Nigerian all-time highest goalscorer.

The most important thing is that the Super Eagles are now in the quarterfinals. I am also pleased that they finally have a clean sheet in this competition.

Even with the supposed fear that is supposed to come with this qualifying rounds seeing that all top teams have eventually qualified, the eagles can win if they are really putting in the the effort that is needed, see that they flawlessly won till this point should be a boost to their mind and even help them have the confidence that they can face literally any team and still win, this time they have a better chance, all they need it do come together and drop all of their differences and also win on of the big teams, the rest will now nurse some fear and doubt that may later get them to be at the mercy of the eagles if the eagles put in more effort to remain superior.

Very crazy indeed their, cause the reaming teams are very tough, including Mali even though they got to the quarter finals by luck. Well my  choice of teams that might likely qualify for the next round are Senegal, Morocco, Nigeria, and  Cote D'ivore. Although im still in doubt concerning Nigeria cause Algeria won't be easy.

 The Super Eagles have been in good performance in the tournament and if they can beat Algeria then I'll be fully confident that they could reach the finals again. I hope they maintain that consistency cause it would be a thing of joy to bring back the trophy after disappointing us in the World Cup qualifiers.

Personally I expected Algeria to win that match easily but football has now changed, the Congolese surprised me so much, despite not qualifying for the next round they put up a good fight which we know that even though the match enter penalty shootout, it will still favour one of the teams although we don't know the team that would've qualified here, congratulations to the algerian side that has noe moved to the next round of this competition, the competition has now reach the interesting stage, let's see who get knocked out again and show stays.

Must the Nigerian government keep disgracing us in every football tournament? There are confirmed reports that the Super Eagles are threatening to boycott the quarterfinal games because they have not been paid bonuses for the four games they have played. Why would the Nigerian Football Federation fail to pay players who have labored for four games? If nothing is done very fast, this could affect the chances of the Super Eagles because they would likely miss some training sessions. This is indeed shameful.
