But Mia Mal can never be compared to Messi. Messi is a player of extraordinary talent who has a career behind him of phenomenal matches, stupendous plays and sensational appearances. Which My Mal hasn't brought yet. He is certainly a very strong and talented player, but he is just at the beginning of his career, while Messi has more than twenty years of career behind him in which he no longer has to prove anything.
Even in 20 years from now Lamine Yamal won’t still be able to break half Messi’s record, why i don’t even bother so much comparing most of this young upcoming stars to Messi is that most young stars lack consistency, don’t be surprised that 2-3 seasons from now Lamine Yamal won’t be this relevant, most young stars lack discipline to maintain their quality, some are often affected by injuries too, while some are affected when they move to a new club that doesn’t favor their game play. Take Cole Palmer of Chelsea for example, he was all over the media at some point but last season after his injury he literally dropped form though he is gradually picking up again, another example is Eden Hazard, he was exceptional at Chelsea but when he moved to Madrid he dropped form, due to injuries, but Messi has remained consistent over time, he rarely have injuries or fluctuate in form, which is one great edge that Messi have over most players and why it will be difficult for any player to break his record anytime soon. How can you be so sure Yamal won't be able to break some Messi's records? I'm not saying he will but I don't understand where your certainty comes from. We are talking about a 19-year-old guy who already won a Euro Cup and a World Cup, I don't think anybody else in football's history did the same at his age. Right now, among all players, the only one with the potential to be the super star for the next 20 years is Yamal. I don't see another single with the same potential as him. And I don't even understand how it's possible to mention Palmer while we talk about Yamal, the Spanish guy is at a totally different level.

In this current players i don’t think any player can be compared to Messi, Lamine Yamal is a fantastic player but you can never compare him with Messi, Messi made football enjoyable because of how simple he played, his dibbles, goals and assists made football interesting, it will also take Yamal a long time to break most of the records that Messi has broken, honestly it will be difficult to see a player that will fit into Messi foot step.
Exactly, it is too early for lamine to be called better than messi, messi wasnt just a one season wonder as people make him when they compare him to young players like him. Messi is messi because he delivered that performance consistently for 20 years, which is no piece of cake. So a player that performs 1 or 2 seasons like that ( even lesser than his level ) and they bring it against messi who is undoubtedly the best footballer ever, this speaks how much messi is envied upon by certain groups of people. If lamine does what messi did for consecutively 20 seasons then can he be called in the same sentence as messi. Lamine's entire career, he cannot be compared to Messi. Even if he gets to his 30s, he won't be in the conversation with Messi. Lamine Yamal has not single handedly done anything for his club and his country. His country won the World Cup without him having a good campaign. Low assists and no goals in the World Cup. Safe to say he had a bad World Cup game. Is that level of performance what you want to be compared to what Messi did in the World Cup? Yamal has so much potential. But he has a lot to learn and a lot of maturity to do. Definitely but what I have observed in football is that many people tend to hype their favourite players but when you really compare what they have done with other players you will know that there is a difference between being the best and trying to be the best and I think all of these out the players in alot of pressure because they have been hyped and they want to satisfy their fans and you begin to see the pressure on them and most ends up being the shadow of themselves and some later gets it right. But for yamal, I think he has a long way to go, he is still young and has talents but he needs to build his legacy with patience while learning what needs to be learnt.

You will find different characteristics in each player. No one can be equal to anyone. Although it is not certain that another footballer will be able to break the records that Messi has set in the future, there may emerge player who can achieve better achievements than him. Actually, I do not want to compare anyone with Messi, not even Cristiano Ronaldo, because every legend is the best in his own way and they were born to break previous records and create new amazing records that no one had ever imagined before.
There is nothing wrong in comparing players, but if anyone should do it, they should do the comparing with respect. Every player is unique in their own way, but there are some players that have more uniqueness than the others, and talking about this is not meant to look down on anyone less. Messi and Ronaldo have good records, but the future will always bring a player who is more talented than the footballers of old. It is very possible there will be a player that will have a better record than Messi and Ronaldo.

These two legendary players: Messi and Ronaldo are great icons that have raised the bar and any player that will want to break some of their records will have to be divine. Messi's 91 goals in a calendar year and having 8 Balon d'Or is among the most difficult of them in addition to many goals scored. Now, Ronaldo is on a mission to create a more difficult one, a 1000 goals record for the game. This is a very difficult record because one does not only have to be talented, you also need to be consistent and play for a very long time. I think these two players got most of achievements because they don't easily go on injury. Neymar Junior could have matched some of their records but injuries forced him out of the debate. Again, playing for a very long time is another factor, Wayne Rooney was a very good player in his days, but has retired years ago despite being younger than Ronaldo. Many talents will still come, but having the discipline that will allow them break some of these records will be very difficult because it's not just about talent, it's about consistency and discipline.

I think it really puts into perspective what they did. The talented players who were before Messi and Ronaldo had made an incredible contribution to football. At that time, if these players were injured, they would have needed time to recover because the medical system was not as advanced as it is now. There were also limitations in terms of global promotion of sports. Today, it may seem that no one can break the records of Messi and Ronaldo, but in the future we may see more talented players. At present, an analysis of the talents of Mbappe and Haaland shows that Mbappe has scored a total of 427 goals in 27 years and 25-year-old Haaland has scored 354 goals. If they can continue playing healthy until the age of 40, it will not be difficult to break Ronaldo's or Messi's goal records. Staying physically fit and in consistent form is the biggest challenge for a player. Source: Yahoo sports

I have always been amazed when i see fans concluding that there can never come players that are better than Christian Ronaldo and Messi. while both guys have made a mark in the football space, we cant take out the fact that amazing players will still come afterwards. a more realistic assertion will be that, to have two players being looked at as world best for the duration of time that Ronaldo and Messi stood as the two best players in the world might appear a bit difficult to see but amazing players will continue to show up with better record. the record that Ronaldo has created can still be matched by Mbape with time.

The emotions of people who are fans of Lamine and at the same time have been fans of footballers with more history like Messi make them buy into each other and even say that they are better than him. It's normal for them to say that because they are emotions, but seeing it from a much more mature point of view, things are not like that. There is a trajectory that one player has already established, the other is just beginning. Yes, he may have titles, achievements, but a player is defined by everything about who he is, on and off the field. Lamine still needs to mature; he is on a very good path, but we have to let him develop much more. Yes, the player needs more development.

Back then, the Barcelona players got the ball and found Messi, but in the current Barcelona squad, Yamal is the player that they are expecting the ball from. Raphinha is the one getting the goals, while Yamal will get the assist. Maybe Yamal will break Messi's assist record of Messi but the goals and all-round play he won't even near.

Ronaldo and Messi have really performed well in previous years for both club and country and to see players that will match what they have done, it will take a while because for a player to be consistent and also improve on themselves to the extent of still playing well and contributing heavily for both club and country even with the fact that they are now older means a lot and takes a lot to accomplish. I noticed they played for passion and are willing to do everything for the success of the teams they have played for and also what has affected several players of this time is pressure even from their fans, when they are hyped by their fans and they now believe they have become legends, most of these situations result in the player not paying attention to key details in needs to improve on because he believes he has become one of the legends. Another is money, many players have talents but because they have better offers from other clubs which may not necessarily be a place of improvement for them because of the lesser competition or competitors in the league, they become players with past glory and lastly, is injury, some players are seriously affected by injury despite having the talent and passion but injury has buried several talents in recent years

There is no denying that consistency is important. I know that talent alone is not enough to build a career like Messi. Especially Messi has maintained the same level for two decades, avoided injury and performed well every season. These things are not easy at all. But don't be so quick to say whether Lamine Yamal will be able to break Messi's half record after 20 years. You are not sure what lies ahead for him. Just think, the boy is only 19 years old and he won the World Cup with Spain at this age. Even if you look at his statistics, you will know that he completed the most dribbles in the tournament in the 2026 World Cup. Messi is already over 39 years old. Lamine Yamal has a lot to do ahead.

Of course records are meant to be broken but saying that "it's very possible" is a different story. I don't know how old you guys are and if you remember the numbers that players would usually achieve during their careers before Messi and Ronaldo: they were good, but those two took them to a another level. It's going to be interesting to see how many goals Mbappé and Haaland will have scored at the end of their careers. Even an incredible striker such as Lewandowski scored a little over 700 goals during his career, that's almost 250-300 goals less than Messi's and Ronaldo's numbers. I think it really puts into perspective what they did. It's a different case if the game already had someone in that class of awesomeness, but what are we expecting of the next generation playmaker who wants to break, say Messi's records? When Pele himself says he's the greatest, Maradona said the same thing, great player and coach like Zidane said the same thing, Jose, Guardiola and 100 more confirms the same, again what's our expectation of a better player than this? We all know so many players who deserved the ballon d'Or but were denied because of those two great players. At this point, not even their kids can achieve better, or anything close to their legacies.

Yamal isnt a bad player, the problem isnt with him but the problem is how good messi’s record is. Having the Most goal ratio and having 900+ goals with 400+ assists is something that cant be replicated, Yamal can become an unstoppable striker but he will lack the playmaking part, or if he becomes a top class playmaker he wont be able to reach 900 goals. I just want to say that it is extremely hard and rare to find a player with both and i believe messi is the only player in football to have this kind of stats. Even if lamine wins 5 worldcups he wont ever reach near to the individual performance that messi has had

Messi and Ronaldo have good records, but the future will always bring a player who is more talented than the footballers of old. It is very possible there will be a player that will have a better record than Messi and Ronaldo. At one time, people thought that players like Maradona, Pelé, Johan Cruyff, Zico would not come in the future. But we are currently seeing better performances than them. And we may see this continuity in the future as well. Messi or Ronaldo, these two are individually talented and their performance style is completely different. We may not see anyone similar to them. But an equal or better player may be created in the future. So it is not right to think and speak illogically only emotionally. I agree with you that players like them can definitely be in the future. It is not impossible . And those of us who have seen their match from the beginning, may not like the other players. But when the next generation sees the other players, then those who perform better at that time will seem to the people of that generation as the Greatest Player. Many things change with time. But so far, Messi is the best player of all time, there is no doubt about it now.

I'd only do it in 10 or 15 years, when Lamine is about to retire, and compare their achievements. Right now, doing that doesn't make sense; I don't see the point. What does make sense now is that Messi is a very good player, and at this point, Lamine hasn't established himself as a player as famous as him. Besides, Lamine isn't very mature; there are many things he still needs to do, many things he still needs to accomplish. Comparing them when they were the same age is pointless because everything was different back then.

Source: Yahoo sportsMbappé scored 427 goals playing since he was 17 years old, now he is 28, that means he's been playing for 11 years. Let's say he plays for another 11 years, until he'll be 39, even if he's able to score 40 goals per season, he'd add 440 goals bringing his total to 867 goals. And Haaland is 646 goals away from the 1,000-goal mark, let's suppose he plays another 15 years (so until he's 40), he would have to score, on average, 43 goals per season. Is it impossible? No. But it's extremely hard to achieve. I think that for the moment Yamal's numbers may be as good as Messi's at his age, or even slightly better. Of course this doesn't mean he'll be able to keep this performances for the next 20 years too but I think he is the closest player to Messi we'll see for a while. For Barcelona, Yamal won't be able to break Messi's record in the league, Champions League, and in all competitions. Messi is a different type of player. Always getting involved in the goals.
I just want to point out that both Messi and Ronaldo changed their roles during their careers. Messi at first was mainly playing as a offensive wing, then he was moved more in the center. And Ronaldo at Sporting Lisbon and Manchester United was a classic wing, he never played as striker. So maybe Yamal's role will evolve too, who knows.

Comparing them when they were the same age is pointless because everything was different back then. Well, this type of argument has always been there between us like we all just addicted to comparison all the time...... !!!! However, I will express myself..... I saw from the last two, three decades that people are just comparison young players to Messi like every time we saw that fans emerge new players to the field who creates little hype then immediately people even start comparing him to Messi but after a while when we look then nothing seem different... Now, let me explain why this happens. People believe that history can produce another player like Messi but unfortunately that is not how it works. Before Lamine Yamal people compared Kylian Mbappe to Messi like they believed that Kilyan Mbappe can overtake Messi by the end of his career because he had won the FIFA World Cup at just 18 would eventually. But unfortunately this comparison of ppl also failed. Right now Mbappe is 28 years old and he has still not even won a single Ballon d'Or or the Champions League although Messi has had hattrick of Balloon d'Or in just 24 So the same could happen with Lamine Yamal. He might turn out to be better than many other players but recognized to Messi level absolutely impossible.

It has always been like this, a very good player when retires people think that he is the last good player and there will be no other player like him but nature has always brought a better player every time and i think that is why you are expecting the same but i dont agree to it this time, i see a better player than Ronaldo emerging but a better player than messi, it is going to be pretty hard. Having on of the highest goals along with the highest assist is something only he can do and in order for someone to be better than him that player has to have 400+ assists at the same time with 900+ goals. That why it looks hard for me

Even with talented players like Mbappe and Erling Haaland and Lamine Yamal, you should remember that it will be difficult for them to break the records of Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in the future. Those who compare these players I think they should know about the records of these two legendary players because Messi already has the most assists in the history of football and this player has scored 930 goals while Ronaldo is doing great in SPL and it seems to us he has already scored 981 goals and this Portuguese player has scored 291 assists. Also another important point is that Messi has won Ballon d'Or the most eight times and Ronaldo has won Ballon d'or five times but these players you mentioned have not won any Ballon d'or yet.
