It's not about the goals, it's about the individual performances. And playing well doesn't necessarily mean scoring a lot of goals otherwise only strikers would win the Ballon d'Or. Kane's performances have been outstanding during the last years. Yamal played very well too but I don't think he did enough to deserve the prize. And anyway he easily has other 15 years of career in front of him, I'm pretty sure he's going to win it within 2-3 years maximum.

For me the two most deserving candidates for the 2026 Ballon d'Or are Lamine Yamal and Erling Haaland. I would put Lamine Yamal first because of his fantastic performances in the whole world cup. He is already one of the best winger and assist providers in football today.
However I also believe Haaland also deserves it because of his incredible performances. If we can remember correctly the final against Bayern he and Neymar became somehow estranged in that match, they could have won if they played as a team.
Same thing he brought to Madrid: Madrid was a strong team before his arrival, Vinicius was top of the World, best winger so far but then came Kylian Mbappe; the ego and the fact Madrid always wanted him, people thought they’d conquer Europe and be untouchable but they never survived Spain.
