Sorry guys, I'm not sure why I felt so deeply about this. I'm not even invested it doesn't even effect me. It's just that I spent alot of hours trying to vet that and felt I was roadblocked and now it has come to pass. Whatever. I hope no-one lost money because of this.

I did go out and calmed down sorry for the rough language smoothie. I just took a pain pill and the news hit me in the wrong way.

Its all good man.  Smiley

Just for fun - hardfork countdown contest - try to send a transaction that lands in the hardfork block, win a prize.
https://www.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/53wou2/monero_hardfork_countdown_contest/

Cute but other people have to store those transactions for all eternity.

Y'know, I just shrank the blockchain by 50% in v0.10. I think we can afford to splurge a bit here.
Nice job BTW...

Absolutely!  And I think that line will be quoted many, many times in future.  Classic  Cheesy

I get 8.1 GB vs 18.5 GB on GNU/Linux or just over 56%.

Concerned that blockchain bloat will lead to centralization? Storing less than 4 GB of data once required the budget of a superpower and a warehouse full of punched cards. https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/8/87/IBM_card_storage.NARA.jpg https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Punched_card

Anyone think xmr can replace bitcoin?

There's actually a thread dedicated to that topic, and hence no need to raise it here:
https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=1125666.new

Give a man a fish and he eats for a day.  Give a man a Poisson distribution and he eats at random times independent of one another, at a constant known rate.

On the lighter side I bought a new comp.  It's an interim comp good enough so it won't crap out anytime soon but bad enough that I will still keep dreaming.

Thanks to all that gave advice Smiley

Link it.

Why, are you trying to embarrass me?  Windows 10 Embarrassed  The link to the store I bought it from isn't working so here is Dell's
http://www.dell.com/us/p/inspiron-3650-desktop/pd?oc=fddclot201b&model_id=inspiron-3650-desktop
i5, 8GB RAM, 1TB HDD

I just needed something quick.  I think I will replace the HDD in the old machine with a SSD and turn it into a Monero only linux machine.  That will be a big deal for me but I have an idea on how to make it easy.  Something about bananas.

I have no idea how long to sync the 0.10 blockchain because even though I choose the setting that my comp does not go to sleep, it went to sleep while I was sleeping. Tongue  It is now continuing to sync.

It took 2 days for me.
2 days of continuous thrashing of the HDD.
Obviously we need an SSD...

That was a problem for my old machine with cheap HDD and 4GB RAM.  Not enough memory makes the HDD work harder.  Maybe it fried mine?

New machine = still HDD but better and 8GB RAM.  Estimated snyc time was <12 hrs.

FWIW, a couple years old i7 w/SSD, 8GB RAM and 100Mbps connection, took me a few minutes shy of 2 hours to sync from scratch last night. I deleted my older appdata folder & skipped the db conversion as that felt like it would wear the SSD at lot more than a plain re-sync.

As always, great work from everyone that contributed to this release.
Thank you guys for what you all do for Monero and this community.

Happy forking gents!  Cool

My 2+ year old <$300 comp's HDD  just died.  Of course nothing is backed up except on the computer itself.

God damn it Carl.  You had one job!   Cheesy

As proof that I am the luckiest man alive, this morning I downloaded electrum and went to recover my bitcoin wallets.   On one of the wallets I missed three seed words. It was the one that was empty Cool

Next stop after syncing is Monero wallets. Tongue

The new version is a great news, I was expecting an improved daemon.
The sync was very fast (SSD, very good internet, 6GB RAM).
But the space improvement was not great - from under 10Gb to 7.6GB. This is on Win10 x64...

24% reduction is pretty significant in my opinion.

After reading a few posts I somehow expected something near 40-50%.
But it's OK, you are right.
The even better news for me are that lately the sync is much faster and the daemon doesn't need so much time to start or save+close.

Yes that is when I started running a node full time.  Syncing is the real problem here. After it was synced I did notice some lagging of some programs at those times when it was writing to disk. With the new computer even while  syncing from scratch no problem.

Hey Guys, just started using xmr and have an issue I hope someone can help me out with. Ok I opened a Web wallet at my monero and have made numerous buys using bitcoin and shapeshift with no problems. I also installed v.10 node and simple wallet on my laptop and have transferred from my monero to my wallet on the laptop also with no problem. Now I tried to go directly from BTC-->shapeshift-->simple wallet. Everything seemed to go throught, shapeshift says it's all done but nothing shows up in simple wallet, no pending, balance and locked balance haven't changed, refreshed many times also and no TXID. The only thing I did different with shapeshift is I didn't put a payment ID since the user guide stated I didn't need to do this if I own the address. I did this going from my monero and simple wallet and it workout fine. I'm really hoping it's not the payment ID since I heard it could be lost forever if that the case. Can anyone offer some advise other than contact shapeshift?  Thanks in advance.

Payment ID is not the issue.   Sometimes an exchange from Bitcoin to Monero just doesn't happen when it should and sometimes it just gets delayed for a while. One recent purchase of mine just did not happen and another got delayed for maybe 4 hours before it showed up. Their customer service is good but their hours are listed as 11 a.m. 8 p.m. Monday through Friday Eastern Time.
