why do people currently pay for ZEC 400 times as much as for XMR? they seem to do roughly the same and XMR has been around for awhile too this is insane...

There's no way in Hell that ZEC is worth $1500!!!! It's amazingly stupid to pay that much for it at this point, some people are in for a world of hurt on this one! XMR is a better technology and is further along in its "life cycle" and generally more mature and it's still not worth that much yet... but some day soon!

I haven't done the math, I'm too lazy for that but, what if maintaining Zc at this prices rate is another marketing tactic? Everyone is talking about Zc, and that's priceless Indeed you are talking about Zc in the Monero thread...

I tried to upgrade to version 0.10 from 0.9.4 and it's telling me my database is incompatible and I need to recync? Do I need to download the whole blockchain again? What did you do in version 0.10? :/
Yes, you should download / resync the chain. It's a lot faster now, but will still take quite a while if not on an ssd drive. Thanks. Sounds like we need a blockchain convert tool, redownloading is hack. 1) There is already conversion code built into 0.10 monerod. 2) Monerod does *not* tell you that you need to resync. It tells you your DB needs to be upgraded and then proceeds to do so, automatically. You only need to let it run and do its thing. 3) On a system with less than 8GB RAM it may be faster to just delete and sync from scratch, it just depends on how fast your storage device is. I wrote all of the code in question. It doesn't say or do what you say it does. It *does* do what I say it does: https://m.reddit.com/r/Monero/comments/53hwaw/comment/d7t9pnz

It appears that I am missing dependencies. Qt is up-to-date as well as MSYS2. I am following the instructions found on github.
I have very detailed notes which I am willing to share with the dev team if requested.
Thanks,
It looks like you're missing some boost dependencies. On Ubuntu/Debian you need to install libboost-all-dev package to get everything, and I think you need v1.58 now.

it's ridiculous that zcash has 20x the price of monero wtf. the technologies are not so far apart!
Pepe is confused as hell by this whole zcash thing. So 1 zcash is more expensive than 1 btc?

So, finally after nearly a week, Pepe's monero blockchain is fully synced. Pepe had to restart once (delete everything and start from scratch) to make it work.
Pepe didn't use the import_blockchain feature, why... should he have?

Not necessarily. Sometimes it is slower than syncing. It really depends on what causes the bottleneck. I can sync in 1-2 hours on a computer that is a few years old. YMMV.

I guess what slows Pepe's process down the most is running it on a computer with mechanical harddrive, while a full bitcoin node is syncing on the same 1 TB harddisk, 24/7. (4x 3 GHz, 8 GByte RAM, Win 7 64bit.) Both bitcoin and monero are now fully synced.

Don't know the exact amount of time but it was between 12-24 hrs syncing from scratch windows 10, i5, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD. Before there was pepethefrog there was Grandpa Bunny Bunny.

Yeah, if it was competing with bitcoin for disk bandwidth that would have slowed it down quite a lot. Don't know the exact amount of time but it was between 12-24 hrs syncing from scratch windows 10, i5, 8GB RAM, 1 TB HDD.
Before there was pepethefrog there was Grandpa Bunny Bunny.
With those h/w specs it would have sync'd much faster on Linux.
