Cant we just ban that troll from our thread, he is clearly offtopic and an ethereum shill.
He is perpetrating a social engineering attack against NXT, a divide and conquer, FUD strategy to mess up this thread and disrupt the conversation.
He has no place here, and should stop messing around with this conversation.
Every epic thread needs a midget who is kicked by the others. If iCY enjoys such attitude, why not? BDSM is pretty popular these days. PS: BTW, did they marry in the end of 50 shades of grey?

But his job is not to convince us about Eth, but to disrupt the conversation, and if anybody reads this thread from the outside will see NXT being trashed. It is public opinion manipulation a.k.a social engineering attack. He is a burden to NXT people.

No one of real consequence takes any post by trolls on bitcointalk seriously, anyway. So let him post, I see no reason to delete any of his posts. At worst people would really look into the code. The thread may be self-moderated, but it's generally not needed to remove posts. And anyway, as most people that could be deceived by his posts don't distinguish between cryptos but lump them all together anyway, he's hurting the whole industry, including himself.

iCE is more of a Monero troll than an ETH one.....unless he's had enough sense to dump his Monero bag into Ethereum already.
But: trolls are sometimes useful, and iCE is making one useful point: Ethereum and Nxt are going to be in competition for some markets. The remaining crypto 2.0 projects look to be in bad shape: Counterparty was gutted by Overstock, Mastercoin/Omni looks almost dormant (apart from MaidSafe) and the Larimers have abandoned BitShares.......so there isn't much other crypto 2.0 competition left for Nxt.

NXT and the other Smartchain 1.0 projects you mention are toy versions of ETH. "Competition" between NXT and ETH only exists in the abstract, academic, economic sense. Practically speaking, there is no competition between NXT (obsolete, script-based equivalent of 1970s pocket calculator) and ETH (modern, Turing-complete global supercomputer). In terms of state space, it's like comparing a Coke machine with IBM's Watson.

Stuff doesn't have to be insanely advanced and 'Turing-complete' to be usable.

Will tothemoon relaunch? I think we seriously need some applications to spend some nxt. Maybe that'll attract new users as well.

Yep NXT is used by more people than ETH. Will tothemoon relaunch? I think we seriously need some applications to spend some nxt. Maybe that'll attract new users as well.
There are many. What happened to the NXT marketing project? I still think NXT needs more marketing

I thought we had been through the pros and cons of Turing completeness in early 2014! To repeat ourselves for anyone who wasn't around almost 2 years ago (and is actually interested in facts and not rhetoric ) Here is my version of this post from Nxtforum, March 2014: Paraphrasing CIYAM on Nxt vs Ethereum (from memory): "Ethereum will use scripting for all transactions, Nxt will just use it for select, more complex ones.
Think of Ethereum as a motorhome and Nxt as a sports car. The motorhome can do everything you want when on the road with a lot of in built features but it comes at a cost of slow and cumbersome for just popping out to the shops and ordinary, day-to-day things.
Nxt being a sports car is fast and agile for day-to-day activities but you would struggle to go camping with it. Enter AT which would be the trailer that you hitch to your sports car just when you need to go camping. Towing will slow you down but you are only towing when you absolutely need to, unlike the motorhome where you have no choice but to 'tow' all the time."ordinary, day-to-day things == simple transactions, send/receive camping/built in features == turing complete towing == scripting I think that was it CIYAM is the lead dev of the Automated Transactions project. This is known as NxtAT within Nxt and is a completed open source turing-complete bolt on for the Nxt ecosystem (the caravan for its sports car ). It was considered unsafe by several Nxt devs and technical team to be put in the Nxt core. NxtAT team argued that as each step requires Nxt fees to complete, cost of the attack is linearly proportional to its impact and any malicious codes impact would be manageable. But agreement wasn't forthcoming and led NxtAT floundering. The Nxt devs want to see the effects (and any disasters) in other coins such as Qora/Burst/Ethereum before reconsidering for the Nxt core. The NxtAT team have since implemented the system successfully in Qora and Burst IIRC but neither have managed to gain any traction so far. More recent analysis by Kushti (a name to respect if you know anything about serious research into POS) who I don't believe was involved in the initial disagreement, thinks delaying NxtAT was a good thing. After studying Ethereum's approach, he is also unconvinced their approach is the best one. So there we have it, sorry if the truth bombs get in the way of the diversionary narrative some were pushing tl:dr - Nxt can be Turing complete if it wanted to be through the completed NxtAT project that has existed for more than a year. But Turing complete transactions are not necessary, or even desirable, for most transactions as they are cumbersome for simple things like making payments (why drive around a go-kart track in a 40tonne delivery truck when you can do it quicker and easier on a go-kart?). Nxt devs are taking a wait and see approach, expecting existing turing complete implementations to run into problems. There is nothing stopping the completed, open source NxtAT project being implemented in Nxt in the future once the turing complete concept has been proven safe in the wild.

It has truckloads of features and new features come out very often, but the marketing is missing. How about we concentrate on promoting NXT like these shameless ETH trolls do for their worthless ETH. We could be in the top 3 then.

No one has still answered my question....
Why does a distributed digital blockchain event sourced database transaction system need to be turing complete?
A distributed computing system has much different use cases than a distributed blockchain system.
If all you have is a hammer...

You know I tried NXT for one of our colored coins and it was a little confusing. Plus the number of confirmations that it wants can take a long time on a network with that few nodes. I appreciate the effort but will wait a bit for it to get a little higher popularity.

No, that was not the point. My point was that the ETH and Monero shills have an attitude atleast to promote their agenda. Yes their tools are: trolling, shilling and FUD-ing, so they are wrong. But nontheless they have a goal. NXT seems like a bunch of devs creating things, that nobody knows about, because there is nobody promoting it.NXT needs an organized advertisement campaign fast.
