Not to be harsh but if you want to have a retirement fund, go on and invest on some assets that surely increase in value over time (like land and real estate). The risk of getting burned in the end with these assets are less (as more and more people are born every day, the value of space and residence surely goes up too) than bitcoin (a roller coaster ride).

Anywhere between 100 - 1000 - 10000

Sorry to be so far between but 100 at the fairytale 10000 = $1000000

1000 at a possible $1000 = $1000000

My opinion the last is the most likely 10000 at $100 = $1000000

Good luck!

If it's around the $100 level by the time someone retires it'll be failed and abandoned and more likely to be zero.

I would say 100 would be a good amount to retire off of in the future.

That's why it's hard to rely solely on bitcoins as a retirement fund because the movements in the market is way too fast. We can only speculate, but we can't be so sure about our speculations. So no, don't rely on bitcoins as your only retirement fund.

I currently don't know how much BTC I will need.

Once retired, then something will be rotten, so don't do it.

Perhaps get 21 BTC,at least?

won't need that many when 1 satoshi = 1 dollar.  As long as bitcoin continues to be accepted and takes root it may actually come to that.

21 is such a nice number, then will you own 1/1000000 of the bitcoin economy.

100 is around 25K dollars, and its hard to predict where it will be .No way its enough to retire on.

It may be that bitcoins do not hold any value after 20 years  Tongue Bitcoins are not a reliable currency currently and it has been here for very less time compared to other currencies but the future of bitcoin is not predictable. Soon it may be replaced by another currency.

Lets say I want to buy bitcoins today and store them for 20 years to use a my retirement fund.  Live comfortably, but don't need to buy a yacht or anything.  How many do you think I would need to buy?

Do depend on Bitcoin to retire is a bit silly. Who's to say their value wouldn't be cut in half over time? Or completely go to nothing? You're better off saving fiat if you want to guarantee yourself a retirement and not throw the future in the air.

Using fiat to find your retirement wouldn't be much cleverer. There aren't many or any options for it to outpace inflation, let alone actually grow. That's why we got investment professionals.

Depends on how many folks need to write to the Bitcoin block chain and how much it will cost in fees to do so.  I think in 20 years, 10 BTC will be a very large holding.
