Having a good time there, Holliday?
Any idea why it does that?
Ubuntu is telling you that you need elevated rights to mess around in /root. Whatever is stored inside is none of the regular users' business.
Try sudo ls -a /root (sudo as in superuser do, perform an action as superuser, i.e. root).

If you don't want to keep typing sudo this, sudo that, give sudo su a try - you will become root until you close the terminal or press ctrl+D
su = switch user. With no arguments it will try to switch you to superuser. Examples: su thomas
"You Asked For Change, We Gave You Coins" -- casascius

To mergedmine NMC with P2Pool on Ubuntu you just enter the following code after changing 'rpcuser' and 'rpcuserpassword'HuhHuh

* Namecoin

Code:
git clone git://github.com/namecoin/namecoin.git
cd ~/namecoin/src/
make -f makefile.unix namecoind
mkdir ~/.namecoin/

Content of ~/.namecoin/bitcoin.conf:

Code:
server=1
daemon=1
rpcuser=usuarioy
rpcpassword=dasdGfhoiu35BCV47586fgdh234GDFSEG
rpcport=7333

You need to run 4 commands, git, cd, make and mkdir and, after that, you need to edit the file ~/.namecoin/bitcoin.conf, you can use:

nano ~/.namecoin/bitcoin.conf

And type the content of it within the Nano editor, save the file and start namecoind.

Good luck!

100%?!

You wait to complete the Bitcoin blockchain download before start P2Pool?!

I guess it is better to ask for help at P2Pool main thread... Because I'm new here too...

so now i have almost 1.6gh pointed at my p2pool server, still says shares:0.... but my bamt interface shows over 100 shares accepted.. normal? (sorry i know noob... but without asking ill never learn!)

also the expected time to share fluctuates a lot between 24min and 35 min, and it varies both directions.

NM shares 1 Smiley sweet.. just took a while to get cookin but there it is!

The lower difficulty shares are for monitoring your rigs. The higher difficulty shares will take a while. It sounds like you have everything working properly.

Edit: High difficulty shares are the ones that count towards payment when mining with P2Pool.

gotcha! well sweet.. going to give this a shot and see how i like it!

i love not paying a fee to a pool op

are there any security concerns with this over a standard mining implementation? i mean obviously wallet protection is key, but anything else?

How does p2pool know the index/code/ID of each coin type in the list of merged mining hashes?

Does its call to get work for merged mining to the coin's daemon tell it that? As I don't see you telling those numbers in your example of how to start merged mining...

When you use the P2Pool "--merged" option, it will do the job for you.

I'm working to activate merged mining for IXcoin and I0coin now just for fun... lol
