If you are a long-term holder, why are you concerned with the exchanges? Remove your coins to your local wallet and stake supporting the network. Not only will this benefit the network integrity but less coins on the exchange means less available supply.

This. Don't make the same coin breaking mistake VRC owners made.

yup, me and my small group of XC investors (friends and acquaintances mostly) removed our coins from mintpal, at least 30k+ between all of us Smiley

Besides everyone should be staking most of their coins while leaving a small amount on the exchange. The price is too low for me to move them back to the exchange, so all mine are staking atm.

Any news on rev 2.5 release btw?

I have some very noob questions

Can I install wallet on a portal external hard drive? Does my wallet become a “cold storage” when I disconnect that hard drive from the computer ?

Or the wallet.dat file is what really matter. That no matter where my wallet is, my data will always be on my main computer under the Users\AppData\Roaming\XCurrency folder?

For back up wallet, Can I just use the tap inside the app to back it up ? or do I have to go to that Users\AppData\Roaming\XCurrency folder to find the wallet.dat to back it up ?

Thanks guys

Best way IMO is just go to your appdata folder and copy your wallet.dat onto a thumb drive.

Another step is to lock your wallet, and make sure you copy down your password in multiple locations so you dont forget it. if you forget your PW on a locked wallet, next to impossible to unlock it. You can always copy the .dat BEFORE you lock your wallet. Then when you re-back up it, unlock and repeat backing it up. This way I think that if you DO forget your PW, you can still use your BU and it wont be locked ( I could be wrong on this though but pretty sure that works that way ).

I would like to add as well, an extra layer of security would be to use a virtual keyboard. Even if you have a good AV, Firewall etc. and you're worried about keyloggers. This is a good method to secure your vital information like passwords etc. I personally use oxynger keyshield for accessing my bitcoin wallet which offers protection against keyloggers. I'm not sure if its that important to use with altcoin wallets yet, but someone stole VRC so I guess people may attempt to steal other altcoins as well.

It looks like some are saying Rev 2.5 could come out next week before August and 3.0 sometime in the fall according to Teka. Time will tell.

This reminds me I need to buy a usb drive tomorrow to backup my XC on.

Shakesbear, you can also back up your private keys and store them somewhere secure if for some reason you lose/forget your password.  Theres a guide toward the bottom of the coin control article on the official site:

http://www.xc-official.com/wallet/#send-coins-adv

usb drives are an excellent way to back up your wallet, but don't forget that you can email the files to yourself for a quick backup.  Although it's not as secure, it's pretty good if you secure your email a bit. And your wallet has your password.

I think that they will eventually add XC, after rev 3, public launch and whitepaper later this year, XC is bound to become the first altcoin on the market

I'm sorry, it was not clear. I don't mean the first altcoin in BTC-e, I mean the first altcoin in general in terms of innovation, relevance, volume and (hopefully) value Smiley

It's all ready to go, and will be released approximately when the as-yet undisclosed Rev 2 privacy feature comes out. ;-)

Wow, a Norse god integrated into a crypto currency. That's pretty cool.

Great to hear, very excited about XChat becoming implemented into the main wallet and getting more info about the newest privacy feature.  Progress has been incredibly fast and I'm happy I can buy more XC at these ridiculously low prices.  Never thought I'd get a chance to accumulate as much as I have.

Any rough estimates when we can expect undisclosed REV2 privacy feature to be announced?  Smiley

Smart money is buying/accumulating and holding in an anticipation of big news and releases coming. Good times coming for those who are patient through this dry time.
