For the installer you'll need the 64bit version of Java. On the Java page they'll recommend the 32bit version so you gotta be carefull there.

You can try the standlaone if you don't want to install 64bit version.

I remember I installed both, that worked on the beta version

I'd think Poloniex would give you directions on how to deposit on their page.

Deposit: You MUST send your deposit using the unique Message below. Failure to do so may result in the loss of your deposit.

Well, I guess it's better to do it non-encrypted.

Coins are disitrbuted with genesis. All stakeholders (with some obvious exceptions) got their coins already.

You enter your Account's Private Key (the one that holds your NEM), add a Label (whatever you like), then confirm with the Wallet's password (the one you just freshly created).

Your wallet can hold several accounts, but you confirm actions within the wallet with your wallets' password.
