1 NEM is not a company.
2 Don't wann hear soon ? Stop asking.
1. So NEM doesn't want to be taken seriously?
2. So no asking questions?

The poster was asking about the newsletter.

Don't like people asking? Then stop posting teasers.

1 So you only take companies seriously ?
2 You shouldn't ask questions if you can't handle / don't want to hear the answer

1. Never said anything about companies.
2. That's a two-way street.

So since i own a stake in this thing i guess i may as well understand how the heck it works. Its proof of stake i assume. Does it use deterministic random like nxt or coin age like ppc or something else?

About the questions, I'm sure they are legitimate. Please allow me remind you of what has been said until now:

  • 1)Pat said a few pages back that we are aiming for March but didn't want to give an exact date until we have everything working so we can keep our word once we give a date
  • 2) I have also said a few pages back that progress was really good and our devs have reached the point where the main net was being tested. What this actually means is that once this testing is done and no critical problems arise, launch follows. This is why #soon keeps showing up. I have also said that once testing is done a new update will be posted.

I guess we should see an update any moment now. Wink

Hi Anon136,

I'm sure you've heard of PoI(Proof of Importance). NEM is not based on proof of stake, it's on PoI. PoI is a novel algorithm which moves a step forward, offering a different solution to the the yet incomplete crypto puzzle we have today. Complete details about it will be available once we release our whitepaper.

its not pos.. Smiley

http://cointelegraph.com/news/113698/proof-of-importance-nem-is-going-to-add-reputations-to-the-blockchain

uses coin age afaik as it takes about 30 days for all your  XEM to vest after its been sent.. not sure about the tech stuff

Well I'm pretty skeptical that their sybil mitigation techniques will completely eliminate all sybil attack vectors. They may help to minimize the effectiveness of sybil attack vectors but probably not more than that. Does anyone have any links to more technical specifics behind the consensus algorithm? That article was too vague.

Balance, coin age, incoming and outgoing transactions play a role in calculating the importance. Having the importance the rest is a deterministic random algorithm like nxt.

Chance of generating a block depends only on a snapshot of the system.

Except for that bloomberg crosschain ledger, that we're abusing.

Then PoI should work.

If it was like that - Alice sends 1000 coins to Bob != Alice sends them to Charlie and then Charlie to Bob - then it could be abused.

Snapshot in the sense that gimre meant includes transactions. Transactions do play a role and looking at your example probably in most case will not be the same outcome.

Things are starting to pick up around here. It's looking like we are closer to a launch than we ever were.

Stake holders just do not have any patience.

Important News - NEM is launching!

The waiting period is finally over. The Nemesis block is now complete, Main Net testing is running as planned and everything else appears to be prepared for launch. Thus, we are very happy to announce the official launch date for NEM: 31 March 2015 - at 19:00 UTC.

Important Note: Despite best intentions the above mentioned launch date is a tentative one and we reserve the right to change it if any critical issue would arise in the meantime that could endanger the NEM network.

You can also read a complete update on NEM in Newsletter #10.

P.S. A big thank you goes to our dev team, marketing team and community helpers who have been working hard to get all this ready.

P.S.S. Please don't trust any quotations of this post unless it's made by the original poster or a trusted NEM member.

See you at launch,
The NEM Team
