it's official, CFB is now more involved in nem than nxt  Cheesy

I quitted Nxt more than half year ago. Now I'm involved in all innovative cryptoplatforms, my main job is analyzing their security and disturbing creators with questions how they plan to fix the found issues.

ok so important question now
so how do you see the future of NXT ? I mean it's around long time, was damn sure the first 2.0 crypto innovator, but nobody seems to give a fuck about nxt whereas Nem is getting all the attention now. Does that upset you or could you care less?

He cares about Jinn.

The rest is like how he said it is.

so how do you see the future of NXT ? I mean it's around a long long time, was probably the first 2.0 crypto innovator, but not many people seem to give a damn about Nxt in a positive sense whereas Nem is getting all the attention now (at least temporarily). Does that upset you or could you care less?

posting in a thread several times a day equals to caring in my eyes but I guess that's from what perspective you see it right? he said in his own words " main job is analyzing ... security ... disturbing creators ..."

how ever! : the important part of my question is marked in bold. will nxt ever become relevant on a non-insignificant scale? or is it kinda on the path to being more and more obsolete , with just a bunch of stakeholders left trying to get rich of a thing that won't provide the riches? This is a honest unbiased question. I have no stake in Nxt nor in Nem

At this moment. Bitcoin is the most used cryptocurrency worldwide.

Other cryptocurrencies like NXT and NEM and all other altcoins are all a bunch of bagholders/stakeholders waiting for the same thing; getting more adoption inside the old economy.

Read the Pareto principle which CfB shared as well.

For me it's enough if Nxt doesn't die before I release Qubic. Then (if Nxt community doesn't mind) all Nxt coins, assets and other stuff could be transferred to Qubic. Qubic is planned to be released in 2016 when we (Jinn Labs) complete development of its hardware backbone.

so you're kind of saying Nxt actually has no future right? ie. you're suggesting for it to have a future it must be transferred to another project called qubic. thanks for clarifying that, interesting.

now let's not post here anymore about nxt cause it's the nem thread. should do that in nxt thread instead

If you understand what Jinn and Qubic is. Then you will understand why he is proposing this solution.

Not because of NXT has no future, but because it will empower NXT in a way that it can even surpass Bitcoin within days.

So with his proposal NXT actually has a brighter future than any other cryptocurrency today.

..Too..many..posts...

Could you please answer this one? Wink

Will local node and remote node have to run at the same time to do delegated harvesting?

No they don't have to run at the same time. Only the node you're harvesting on needs to run.
Anything else would defeat the point of the excecise.
Ah nice..
So the approach is:

- Setup remote node with NIS and NCC
- Set remote node's address in local settings -> host
- Activate delegated harvesting

Is this correct?

NEM can be transferred too. Qubic is not a cryptocurrency, it's just a technology suite like TCP/IP.

Ok. I can't launch the client.

When I manage to do that I will talk about how wonderful NEM is =)

But if I understand correctly, "power leasing" merges leased power, so it's even easier, as you only need to generate one block in NXT, right?

Yes. But difference between generating with 1 or 1 million accounts is just a few second work for CPU. How fast is harvesting? Not much slower I think?

IIRC, signing (in java) is <300 microseconds (depends on hardware ofc) , so 1M accounts = 300 seconds, that's bit too much (network could be much further already...)

OFC, you could go with C implementation.

but 10_000 accounts should be doable.

Can you give more information? Why can't you launch the client? What happens? What OS are you using ? Is it a 32 bit OS or a 64 bit OS? Are you using standalone or installer?
Did you remove older versions?

You rely on signing in NEM to decide who harvests the next block?

In Nxt only SHA256 is required to pick the forger among accounts when effective balance is known, this is why it's that fast.

I would first setup a local NIS and NCC and get that working to be sure that there is no principal problem. Then activate delegated harvesting.
Meanwhile you can setup a remote NIS. Once the delegated harvesting is activated (needs 360 blocks) shut down local NIS and start remote NIS with the remote key as boot key.
Then change setting in ncc to connect to the remote NIS.

No, the hit and target (it is called like in Nxt) requires only hashing. But as implemented the harvesting account is always generating a block (even when the node is not publishing the block) and that of course requires signing.

What task is solved by generating a block even if it's not published? If there are 2 accounts on a node, one of them contributes less into security of the blockchain and it's a waste of CPU cycles to use it for signing unless you have something special.
