Just to make sure we all work with the same files and info.

"Never underestimate the determination of a kid who is time-rich and cash-poor."

2147129

Space.mp4

Right?

Correct

This will (probably) lead to the password needed to open 2.7z

mirth's roundup #83:

clues:
- "Never underestimate the determination of a kid who is time-rich and cash-poor."
- 2147129 (from Number.txt)
- 8081-VA015 ODYSSEY (characters in the video from Space.mp4, also the album title this video is from)
- Jul  2, 1980  00:02:18, unix timestamp: 331369338 (timestamp of again files - thanks Prospero)
- Space.mp4 itself

possible next steps:
- construct an IP/onion/web address
- find a password to open 2.7z
- extract something magical out of Space.mp4

as a side note, I am impressed with how many steps this puzzle has included. I feel like I could come back next week and catch up on the next dozen steps everyone has solved, and be on some new thing.

If you get the mods to delete my posts there's not much motivation in me posting the solution for Again.7z now is there?  Smiley

Speaking of dates, I find it suspicious that the last bit.ly link was created July 2: https://bitly.com/1rWkJl7+.
All the other hints were created before the puzzle started.
Edit: but OP has confirmed it's the correct file.

ARGs are sometimes described as the first narrative art form native to the internet, because their storytelling relies on the two main activities conducted there: searching for information, and sharing information.

To people who do not understand the concept.  Cry

using ffmpeg I extracted the frames around the 2:18 point in the video, and there aren't any surprises that I can see. on a long shot I did a bit of spectral analysis on the same bit using audacity and it isn't any different than the rest of the song. I suspect the next step will be something more straightforward, using a combination of the data we've already discovered.

just thoughts :
space + odyssey = Space Odyssey ?
if "2.7.1980 09:02:18 timestamp: 331369338" maybe "2147129 timestamp > January 25, 1970 > M*A*S*H premieres"
 : )

space + odyssey = Space Odyssey ?

which is the subtitle to the film 2001. hm!

some context from the Cory Doctorow quote we blitzed by:
Quote
...
Hackers blow through those countermeasures. The Xbox was cracked by a kid from MIT who wrote a best-selling book about it, and then the 360 went down, and then the short-lived Xbox Portable (which we all called the “luggable”—it weighed three pounds!) succumbed. The Universal was supposed to be totally bulletproof. The high school kids who broke it were Brazilian Linux hackers who lived in a favela—a kind of squatter’s slum.
Never underestimate the determination of a kid who is time-rich and cash-poor.
Once the Brazilians published their crack, we all went nuts on it. Soon there were dozens of alternate operating systems for the Xbox Universal. My favorite was ParanoidXbox, a flavor of ParanoidLinux. ParanoidLinux is an operating system that assumes that its operator is under assault from the government (it was intended for use by Chinese and Syrian dissidents), and it does everything it can to keep your communications and documents a secret. It even throws up a bunch of “chaff” communications that are supposed to disguise the fact that you’re doing anything covert. So while you’re receiving a political message one character at a time, ParanoidLinux is pretending to surf the Web and fill in questionnaires and flirt in chat rooms. Meanwhile, one in every five hundred characters you receive is your real message, a needle buried in a huge haystack.

i think most of us are, because it's like 2 or 3 different loose ends. The quote above the bit.ly link, the number in the text file, the odyssey thing (which we've found but nothing to follow it up with), the file creation date of 1980 being weird. Which way to turn? lol

means 2.7z is independent of Again.7z ?!
