What is up with the uber high doa/stales ?

I'd like to give this pool a good go but the doa/stale rates are HUGE.

No one is below 30% right now.

Hmm.  See the p2pool forum.  Maybe p2pmining is the source of the high rejects?

Its getting back to norm but there are still two users @100%.

My stale rates are almost never <10% and usually at 15-20+. Thats ALOT of wasted mhash.

update..

Hours later and the stales are still high. One 400+ mhash/s miner has been at 100% all day.

my doa is ALWAYS under 10% running at 60-75 khs. but ever sense we got this new guy running over 1mhs im getting very high diff shares. its all working out to the same amount of payment and my doa is lower due to only processing high diff shares, instead of my router transmitting like crazy over 1diff shares its slowed down and i can loosen up some settings.

key tip for people using p2pmining litecoins. if your using newest cgminer press s for settings and in that list you'll see scantime expiry and queued. when im p2pmining 1 diff shares i set scantime to 1 expirey to 10 (which someone needs to tell me if that is the correct way of looking at stales, may be smarter to set higher like 240 for example) and queued to 0. with those settings also g-1 and v-2 with --failover-only those settings have dramaticly lowered my rejects and increased my share rate. almost by 50%more accepts and 50% less rejects.  thats what works for me, may not for you but its some settings to play around with for sure.

I think everyone is getting high stales on p2pool since it switched to v9.  It's not just p2pmining.

I observed my local node getting 501 shares (not sure where they came from) multiple times, and each time p2pool freezes as it's processing the shares (apparently it's single threaded).  cgminer then complains the pool isn't providing work fast enough.  when p2pool is done processing, cgminer gets a ton of rejects (I was seeing 10-20% rejects from cgminer), and peer connections are dropped because it times out.  Do that all the time and stale rate goes through the roof.

I'm off of p2pool for now until I see the pool stale rate back down around 10% (it's 31% right now).

It is over 18`000 shares in chain that have to be processed/checked.
It has be done once after node restart, then it should stop lagging.

I noticed the numbers don't add up.

Code:
2012-11-25 20:36:36.894000 P2Pool: 18281 shares in chain (22871 verified/23569 total) Peers: 21 (5 incoming)

You can't expect p2pool node owners to be responsible for the code errors. Only forrestv can fix the stales issue. Me and JayCoin run a php frontend for a p2pool node. If the p2pool software isn't working right, there's literally noyhing we can do.

I see that the I0C tab hasn't been updating...

I know that mining was stopped on that, but that still leaves the coin we already mined, waiting for confirmations and be sent out to us.

Has that already been done? Or do they still need to be distributed now that we should be well past 120 confirmations since the last block was mined on.

Restarted p2pool and I0coind to confirm and payout all the generations.  P2pool should be better tomorrow according to forrestv.

To whoever is mining to 1EnrPjTSwECHRCVthD6B9R1aiszUvsJ7Z4, this is an invalid bitcoin address. Send me the corrected address so that you can get your 2.7 bitcoins.

I'm back and while the stats are better, I'm still at approx 20%.

Should I be running the p2p software ?

I thought it wasn't necessary..

Thanky... site is showing all I0C blocks confirmed, but I can't figure out how to force the payout. Is that something you have to trigger manually if it is below the automatic threshold?

These very high stale rates have me wondering. What if someone is stealing shares and/or causing the stales/rejects, hoping to nab one of the last 50btc blocks ?

The first 10 minutes of my last stint were great and showed only 10% stales. Then all of a sudden, the console started to show 50%+.

Something is causing these high stale rates and I don't think its only with this pool. Slush's Stratum interface was showing way too many rejects aswell.

If you look at the average pay per share over the last week, we are very close to what it should be for the given difficulty.  This pay per share average includes stale shares.

im getting high doa's on the litecoin side. also now that the litecoin side is 15x faster than it was a week ago why arnt we seeing an increase in blocks solved? i would expect to see some sort of increase with the top address running at 1mhs. also more hash we have in litecoin the higher the share diff is getting. im getting 20+ share diff and its not paying out the same as it was before. its making me switch to a pps pool until it starts paying like it was.

I liked p2p for the no variance in diff shares and the idea a small timer could still get a piece of a block. now the margins are too low to even bother with due to a couple bullies not announcing there solved blocks and basically mooching off the honest ones. please correct me if im wrong but it sure seems to be the case.

While that may be the average, the PPS number has come down a fair bit aswell.

Most miners are now were below 20% *a few minutes ago*, but three are still at 100%. One of those has wasted many hours becaue of this.

If we're paid based on the effective mhash/s rate, what does pps have to with this ?

@Kanabis
Are you smelling what I'm smelling ? (I do not mean the herbs even though they do smell freakin sweet. Grin )

There are less than 100 blocks left before the 25btc chop happens.

Is it a coincidence that the few pools I monitor, all seem to be having production downturns and other problems ?
