I think this just saved alot of S3s out there... because bitmain charges 50$ for a new controller. Let us know how it works out. Good Luck!

Yep.Flashing went well.Half of the chips are offline but I think it's because there are no screws to the aluminium block.I'm only testing. http://kuvapilvi.fi/k/y3nv.jpgEverything else works well. Now I'll have to fix cooling. But after all,it was easier than I first thought.

Go as low as you can with the frequencies. maybe some chips will start showing up.

Dead chips ..... do a power cycle, as in unplug from the mains then plug back in (even, let it run for a while and they should resurect!)

Didn't help . I will try later with another plate which is known good. By the way,I added KIA278R33PI regulator and feed it from hash board 12V. So I don't need 3V3 from cp2102 adapter anymore (and I don't think it could power 2 blades and controller).KIA reg is rated 2A so there's plenty of power.

Hmm ... possibly, as you say, has to do with board condition if the dead chips do not come back to life after running for a while (seeing a power cycle didn't help). Just wondering why you'd need the regulator though ... can you not power up the S1 controller from the powered board itself (or does it not have a 3.3v line and just 5v and 12v lines)?

S3 blade don't have 3V3 line. It's not found at connector so I just thought there is no 3v3 at all.Maybe it's found somewhere but adding external regulator was easy way to try if it works at all.I'm just soldering another board which has no separate Tx,Rx,1V8 or 3V3 solder points. So all soldering will be done to the connector.

Problem was (is) in that blade. The other one works just fine.

That's the way to go ..... ! Have you refined your latest "interface" contraption with the S1 controller to your satisfaction and care to detail? Saying that, it may do with it's own thread ..... Well done you, very well done indeed!

I think I will make a proper pcb for this and maybe then open a new thread. Now I know how to do it. First I tried level shifting with FETs and nearly throw everything out of the window.FETs I tried maybe had too high gate-source threshold voltage.Using NPN-trannys was much easier.

I don't think I have time or skills open new thread. So I draw schematic with relevant pins and components. All information can be found from interweb also.I just did little changes.Component values aren't so critical, except voltage divider (1k2/1k) should be given values. Those values give exact 1V8 if fed 3V3.And scaling to bigger values could disturb high freqs.Any common npn-transistors should do.And pinout of S1 connector is: 1=Fan pwm 2=Fan speed 3=Rx 4=Gnd 5=Tx 6=Temp scl 7=Temp sda 8=Gnd S1 control board's power connector pins 1 and 2 are Gnd and 3 and 4 are 3V3 (which you have to feed from KIA regulator). My picture of schematic is pretty bad quality but I hope you can figure it out.I list here too components which I used.It might be a good idea to add some electric condensators to the circuit.Do whatever you want. And don't try this if you don't know what you are doing. And don't blame me if you blow your controller! 1xKIA278R33PI 3V3 regulator 1xL1117 1V8 regulator 2x2N3904 npn-transistor 4x1k resistor 1x1k2 resistor 1x33k resistor wire
I'll be around if there will be any questions.
Edit once again:Schematic removed until problems solved.

Awesome! Can't believe it actually works Finaly after a long time my S3+ is alive and running once again. I still have a prototype version which is kind of a mess. Coming week ill work on a better version with condensators that are still missing. Ill post all schemes and with good quality pictures of my pcb when its all done. Btw, for the L1117 i used a smaller version the bm1117 because my ordered L1117 isnt send yet. But man, that thing runs hot! If someone ever whats to try that u NEED TO COOL IT!

I'm not gonna sell these.I don't have skills to design proper pcb and I can't source right connectors. And I did this because every now and then, someone is asking around if this is possible to do.I knew it could be done and since no-one else didn't do it,I bought two blades,a controller and did it just for fun and to help other fellow-members.I think there are many members with better capability to create real kits to sell.Ofcourse I'm happy to give my btc-address if someone finds this useful and wants to donate. Edit: And it wouldn't be that messy at all if I had original S3 cables. But I don't.So I have to be creative .

Might be a good idea. But that KIA is rated 15V in,and provides 3V3 2A out.I thought it should be enough.Maybe 12V is too much for it?
