What are you guys doing to stay relevant during the times of xmr and zcash? This aint 2014 anymore.
Just wondering.

We upgraded the technology & vision, it's called Komodo.

There will be a swap, so BTCD can be swapped for KMD.

Can you tell me more about the new Komodo technology

Sure!

I'll explain the privacy side, which should be the most interesting part for BTCD investors.

We concluded that Zcash's privacy technology is superior to any other solution, even to our own (teleport/telepathy technology). As we needed the best technology for our platform we decided to fork Zcash. However, making a fork is not really that exciting, but rather the way we use the technology in our own platform.

Privacy for other cryptocurrencies
We can make bitcoin (or any other coin) private transactions a reality. However, doing that requires the other technologies SuperNET has been building, mainly Iguana. In short, Iguana allows blockchains to talk to each other which allowed us to develop an atomic cross-chain protocol (see our whitepaper).

We can destroy bitcoin's transaction track record the following way:
BTC -> KMD -> KMD Z-Tx -> BTC

The whole process will be automaticed:
1. BTC is exchanged to KMD through our decentralized exchange
2. The KMD is sent to a new KMD address through a Z-transaction (the anonymous transaction)
3. KMD is exchanged back to BTC

Any user could manually do that, however we can make it automatic through an app called Jumblr. Thus a user could simply use our BTC wallet which could have a "Private payment" button. The end user would only have to insert the BTC address where he wants to send his bitcoins to, and then the the whole process would happen behind the scenes.

Anonymous fiat transactions
We also have a thing called 'assetchains', which basically allow anyone to create new Zcash forks in seconds. Those forks are compatible to our other services, such as DEX. We have already created 32 special coins, which we developed a bit further. These are called PAX fiat assets, and their value is tied to local currencies (USD, EUR,...).

Because they are Zcash forks we can actually do the same anonymous transactions with them. We believe our way to tie the coin to fiat value is superior to the other current solutions. The anonymous transactions are really a cherry on the top. Of course these too are compatible to our other services, so you could store them in the same place you store your BTC (our Iguana wallet).

Aghhh this is so frustrating....Whenever I try to open my wallet (which I spent several days downloading the blockchain and everything was working) it says it cannot load blkindex.dat

Does anyone have a fix that does not involve redownloading the entire blockchain?

Yes, we are testing it (the backend is working). Now we just must implement the thing to the actual ICO site. This takes some time still, could be a couple of days... could be more.

So I bought some BTCD in anticipation of the upcoming KMD swap and I installed the BitcoinDark QT wallet.

I noticed a few days ago on 12/30 that I had some additional BTCD in my transaction history that says were mined.   I didn't even know I was mining BTCD and is this something that is done when BitcoinDark QT wallet is open and running or is it just done automatically and the wallet doesn't have to be open?   Thanks for any help and answers.

BTCD is a POS coin. Your wallet verifies transactions (mines) on the network and you get paid for this. When the wallet is opened and running and your logged in (for minting only) you will receive a reward from time to time. If you leave it open you will earn interest up to, I think, 6% per year...

Ok thanks and I'll try to leave it open. Although I don't see anywhere to "log in". I just open it and it syncs with the network and that's it.  But I did get a small amount of mining rewards the other day, so I suppose I'll try to keep it open all the time and see if I get more at some point.

you only have to "log in" if you've set a password.
It's recommended to secure your funds.
This option is in every Qt-Wallet.

My wallet is encrypted with a password, but when I launch the program, it doesn't ask me for a pw and it works just fine. It only seems to ask me for the password when I want to send funds, and of course in the the console, if I want to extract a private key, etc.

The BTCD --> KMD swap is now live on our ICO platform: https://ico.komodoplatform.com/. Swap your BTCD before 15.01.2017 to participate on the REVS distribution! Just login to your ICO account and click "Swap" in the menu to start the swapping process.

The deposits is open for people to deposit their BTCD for the REVS snapshot as well as to swap your BTCD to KMD. If you do not want to swap your BTCD for now that is OK just hold it locally in your own wallet. This does mean you cannot vote for notaries though as you would not have any KMD to do so.
