I had been working on privacyServers (since very early this year) for NXTprivacy and I had even created a BBR (best cryptonote tech) fork called pNXT. I was going to create an automated two way peg for pNXT <-> NXT to allow for cryptonote transport of NXT

the problem was to create a peg (and doubly so for two way peg), requires continual centralized price support (if you want to be sure the pegs hold and to offer zero cost spreads) or to rely on the magic hand of the market (like btsx is doing - be careful if you have any of this!). Neither of these two seemed sustainable.

so I started looking for a coin that was liquid and had a free market based price. Then the price change during transit of the funds from source to destination would be small. that is how ripple's XRP is supposed to work

That was a few days after BTCD launched and soon it was at petahash!
Since I was looking for a coin with a secure network, it seemed like a good choice. At first I was just going to use BTCD as a transit currency, but I sent a few PM's to Azeh about the issues of using zerocoin (it was in the repo) and instead of the usual, "we know what we are doing" attitude that most coins have, Azeh was very encouraging and supportive. This was in spite of my wanting to use Nxt Inside as a lot of my code uses NXT. I like to use the best software available for simplifying what I need to do and I also use libuv, libwebsockets, nacl, libtom, libcurl, gzip, etc. Why reinvent the wheel when you can get a nice shiny one for free? if you have NXT installed, just go to http://127.0.0.1:7876/test and you will see the API that is available. How can I not use such nice free API?

I was in the BBR community for a bit, but I got a PM from their "management" to please post all your stuff about pNXT somewhere else as it is confusing the Boolberry people. Had they been having the attitude of Azeh, I could easily have ended up enhancing BBR instead of BTCD.

I also got the same sort of encouragement to leave from the ripple community last december, that is how I ended up in NXT.

So not only did Azeh create BTCD for us, he is the reason I am here! He recognized the value of a simple C programmer like me.

James

Hey James

Thanks for the shout out about BBR Wink I think you have a very good attitude that will take you places.

I am not sure who sent the PM, obviously they meant no harm and it should probably have been kept in the "dark", but I can understand your frustration given you seem very enthusiastic with everything that you touch. I also know you had big buy support with BBR, so your support was genuine. I am no way affiliated with the "management" (lol) but perhaps you can sympathize given how much they have been held under FUD by competing CN teams and apologies for any confusion.

Good luck with this project. I am looking to sneak in at a good entry point as I am liking what I see here.
Thanks. I've been to 50+ countries in last several years, so I am seeing these places Smiley

I did buy 10% of BBR, I was very serious and zoidberg has always been very helpful, but it was clear that any sort of putting Nxt Inside plan of mine would go nowhere. Since if I can't put Nxt Inside a coin, that means I cant put my NXTservices inside, which would mean no InstantDEX, no Privatebet, I cant really go "all-in" with my dev work on such a coin.

Turns out I can make Teleport work without any NXT dependency, but that is just busywork that serves no purpose as I need the NXT API for InstantDEX and others. Anyway, with a reskinned GUI, the users will have a BTCD experience and get all the NXT features, so I see no harm to any coin brand that puts Nxt Inside. If anything it should be like "Intel Inside", even Apple computer benefited from that. The alternative is to not  have any of the NXT 2.0 features

The whole "BBR daily dumper" that sells the majority of every day's mining output seems to still be a problem. It feels like not jusst a FUD attack, but continual financial attack. Not sure when the new coins mined per day becomes absorbable, but until then I fear BBR price will be a sad thing. With BTCD it is hard to believe but when we had 3 petahash mining, the miners were dumping at .00015 to .0005! I guess they had to pay their mining costs. As soon as PoW was over and people realized only 1.2 million coins, then the constant dumping ended. Then people started to understand the impact of my tech. Then I came up with Teleport.

James

P.S. did you know that when I got the "post elsewhere" july 8th PM, BBR marketcap was about ten times BTCD, now it is so sad to see BBR at bottom of top 100 Sad

Despite what I said a few pages back about not buying more BTCD for a while, I did buy today when the price started to rise.
I bought 160, and later sold 50. The rest have gone in to my wallet to party with my other BTCD. Im holding.  Cool
My goal is to reach 100-1500. Im a fair bit off that...in time...

PS
Anyone have any idea why the coins price rose so high today?

Hi JRoC,
If you use Windows, create BitcoinDark.conf as the OP and put it at the same directory of BitcoinDark-qt.exe and run.

Now that we cracked the Top 15, I think it is ok to announce my medium term marketcap goal. Clearly, the Top 10 is well within reach as we are "only" a doubling away. Crazy as it seems that can happen in several weeks time. Getting to #11 is just 33% away, so after the slight pullback from today's ATH, we will retest the .007 and once we are past that, then .01 becomes quite possible. However, this is all something that might require painting a two week pennant pattern, never can tell in the crypto market. So, ignoring day to day price, but assessing value, I am aiming for not to just be the #1 anon coin (DRK) but for exceeding LTC. I doubt LTC will still be #2 when BTCD passes it, probably more like #4 to #6, still we are talking healthy double digit millions.

Keep in mind that it will take a lot longer to do the next price doubling as each time you do it, the amount of investor interest you need has to be a lot more. However, we are still on page 3 by views and most people still think BTCD has nothing new. That is quite funny to me, but I guess most people are too busy to find the thread and read about BTCD. They cant complain later when BTCD achieves is potential.

So, be prepared for a couple months instead of couple weeks and maybe we get a happy surprise at the impatience of the market to properly price BTCD. I am working to make BTCD so that I can live off of the staking and then I can spend years and years developing it to be all that crypto can be. Along the way, we will get more and more devs, so in a year, two or three BTCD will be much more than even what I am imagining it to be now.

So, long term, I see the following top coins, the specific order (other than BTC) is hard to predict:

BTC, NXT, ETH, BTCD

When I see that on coinmarketcap, then I think I deserve to have some vacation Smiley

I just had an idea regarding donations for the devs.  If I play the banjo and I want to make some money playing a song that I spent hours learning then I can enter a banjo competition, then if I win the competition I get paid a certain amount of money.  If I lose the competition then I get nothing.  What are crypto currencies in 2014 but a horse race or a music competition, for the future of payment systems?  Maybe we could have a pledge system where people will publicly pledge to pay a certain amount if the price reaches a certain level based on the honor system.

As an example, here's how it would work:

First and foremost, I pledge not to spend, trade or otherwise lose the BTCD that I pledge today and have set aside for this pledge until the devs get paid for whatever price level we reach that I have pledged within the expiration date set forth, based on the honor system.  Right now BTCD is $3 dollars.  That's great but with only a few hundred to my name, not exactly going to make me rich.  I'll donate 1 BTCD worth $3 for the accomplishments thus far.  If 1000 people did that, that would be enough to cover some basic expenses and get the project moving, but not exactly making anyone rich, fat and lazy. In addition when the price hits $100 I pledge to donate 3 BTCD for development worth $300.  When BTCD hits $500 I'll donate 5 BTCD worth $2500. When BTCD hits $1000 I'll donate 10 BTCD worth $10,000 and when BTCD hits $5000 I'll donate 20 BTCD worth $100,000.  Now this is an example and not an actual pledge, but it's one very realistic possibility.  I'll leave it to the devs to determine the timeframe on all of this.  But if you total the above pledges you would get a total of 39 BTCD worth a cost basis today about $125 and if one were to buy and hodl in the above win win senario, worth a lot more than that.

In my experience with alts, mostly negative, this system would bring higher quality dev work because the devs get paid for success rather than everyone just sending a bunch of BTCD at today's value and then the coin goes to $10 and they dump and walk away with a nice profit and move onto another coin to do it all over again leaving everyone else high and dry. Pardon my french but that's bullshit!!!  I have seen coin after coin follow that format and BTCD needs to be different and James has said he can not do it all, so it's our responsibility to create an organized system for donations based on community pledges from community members who are committed to the success of this coin, that will result in a win win situation for all and prevent a few from financially raping everyone else and killing the coin in the process.  Sorry for the harsh language, but I've lost a lot of money in crypto so far and the success of BTCD is very important to me.

This is just an idea in rough draft but any thoughts?

I was realizing there's no BitcoinDark Wiki site, unless it's already being developed. That's something I could do. Is there need for a proper BTCD Wiki?

About to pass XCP!
They are another coin that made it clear they didnt want me around. I guess I am big nuisance Smiley

I am seeing some orderbook games with lots of small orders, BTCD needs no such things and it is better to just let things happen naturally. We are back to #4 in 24hr volume, it seems this sort of thing happens everytime we are making ATH. People rush back in to not miss the next jump up. If only they learn to hodl, it is much easier Smiley

My 20% premium bid for mgwBTCD is now at big discount, amazing how fast things change, so I put a decent sized bid at 109 NXT. A bit below current price, but I have a feeling for NXT moving up so as NXT moves up this 109 bid gains in value

I know reasonably well some of the ramblings coming from the Nxt side Smiley But I'm still a little far from writing "I, tradebot" or about teleport, I doubt I'd be able to put something together before end of september. Surely others here are in shape to write a wiki page about Teleport?

In any case an API Wiki reference page is easy, just a mechanical job transfering reference notes / JSON information into wiki markup syntax.
