I'm not worried, everyone is still off for the Holidays.  There are still solo miners and small pools running that haven't realized via went merged mining and they are not likely to hit a block again.

I had 10.0 version of wallet. I haven't run is for a while....
I started it today and block-chain (or something) didn't update, was stuck at '21 weeks old'

So I downloaded and installed over the same wallet (same folder, not default) new, 10.6 version.
After installation I started it and I got this error:

Assertion Failed!
File: maincpp, line 1753

Expression: hashPrevBlock == view.GetBestBlock()

I'm pretty rusty with these new technologies, can someone tell me in simple language what I need to do... I read about some reindexing of block chain, not sure how to do that

Maybe just delete your blocks, chainstate and peers.dat and restart

Ahh forgot to mention, I downloaded wallet from Github link posted in first post of this thread.

What is this number:

8d4819682a4c39dbd11782716d9cd2dbd75ae30a1e53d67dd2990783b3034f3b  viacoin-0.10.6.4-win32-setup.exe

I tried to verify download with SHA checksum and it does not match. What kind of check sum represent upper number?

Thank you drak! I deleted as you said and this fixed the problem. No more error and wallet did load.
There is no funds on it now (I did backup) and it is 24 weeks behind now so I'm assuming once synchronization is finished fund will be back (not that I had many anyway) :-)

Thanks for your help

What is this number:

It's the SHA-256 hash.  On Mac it's:

Code:
shasum -a 256 viacoin-0.10.6.4-osx.dmg

sorry, don't know the command on Windows.

Quick question- i have been mining Viacoin for some time but recently got screwed by Hamsterpool for 2850 ViaCoins.  I wanted to get some input into this situation.
I was mining on 3 Pools - SuchPool, CoinKing and HamsterPool-
I mined all 3 up until Dec 24 at which time I stopped mining at HamsterPool because of their DDoS problems but continued with SuchPool and CoinKing.
Around Dec 26 Suchpool announced they were going to suspend the Viacoin because of the increased Hashrate etc but they paid out the coins I mined-  never a problem with CoinKing.
Hamster pool whom I stopped mining now states the following and will not payout the 2850 Viacoin I had mined over a few days with a large hash rate (prior to the huge increase in Network HashRate)
Here is the comments from Hamsterpool thread here on Bitcointalk:
Comments to the validity of their argument would be appreciated-
Keith

No reply to my post about the missing Via that was posted prior to the one answered....

Viacoin's developer has planned a hardfork for the latest wallet version in january 2015.
Unfortunately it does not worked as it should. Some users switched to the latest version so that a new fork occured.
Hence the old fork became invalid. The coin developer did not announce that. Thus a lot of mined blocks are orphan.
We are sorry but we point out that this is not our fault.

I saw there were some orphans (after i notified you by email)... 2 problems, 1 is that I was mining your pool, Suchpool and CoinKing at the same time and the others paid as usual.  Suchpool then announced they were closing the Via pool because it was no longer viable to mine with all the hash rate. When I was mining those coins on your site it was before the other pools closed.  Secondly, I have thrown a lot of hash rate at your site and your mistake cost me a lot of money, either in mining something that you didn't update (although it just happened to be the time when you had problems from DDoS) or simply not paying out my earnings--- either way- keep the 2850 ViaCoins and I will stick with mining on Sites that actually answer their emails and support questions and also don't list so many coins that they miss updates.....cheers...keith

For the record I emailed all the pools once we noticed the switch had occurred early and I also posted here.

Maybe just delete your blocks, chainstate and peers.dat and restart

Wednesday 7th I come home from holiday. On that day I should have redownloaded the newest VIA wallet 0.10.6.4.
Can I redownload the wallet later that day, even if the hardfork has taken place?

Lol no. You should have upgraded asap. Planned hard forks require you upgrade prior to the date, preferably immediately. If  you upgrade after the hard fork, you need to delete your database.

What I mean is to redownload the VIA blockchain. 'To delete your database' means to delete all files except wallet.dat, right? And then to redownload the newest wallet, so the public/priv keys are safe.

Yes, it is going down again. There are 3600*5=18k new viacoins are mined everyday, the inflation will drive the price down, it is normal. All we should focus on is better technology implementation, social media, they will help viacoin grows.

I requested cryptoid to host viacoin on their block explorer because they are excellent, take a look if you've got a minute.

Due to little trade volume, VIA will be delisted from coin-swap.net.

Please withdraw any VIA you have ASAP.

wow looks like merged mining was a big success, hashrate up from 10 GH/s to around 600 GH/s. This makes VIA a more viable (pun intended) competitor to the more expensive bitcoin based crypto 2.0 alternatives. Blockchain security is now far less of an issue than a week ago. Nice work Drak!
