wow looks like merged mining was a big success, hashrate up from 10 GH/s to around 600 GH/s. This makes VIA a more viable (pun intended) competitor to the more expensive bitcoin based crypto 2.0 alternatives. Blockchain security is now far less of an issue than a week ago. Nice work Drak!
Well after projects like GEMS specifically rejected viacoin because of the low hash rate, it was obvious we needed to do something drastic.

Due to merged-mining-enabled pools taking over nethash, http://via.minerpools.com won't be able to go on, it was a good ride since launch day but it's time to move on and let the new merged mining overlords rule Please withdraw your remaining VIA from there as the pool will be taken down within the next couple of days.

I know the Viacoin network will be bigger than it is now to a larger degree, so just to be clear I actually am quite happy with how smooth Viacoin's adoption is going- it's very healthy I believe.
I wonder though, at the moment I see all the perks of Viacoin's ClearingHouse against Counterparty- the blockchain bloat issue, large growing hash power for such a young project, and lack of unpredictability by it's rivals politics and network. I'm still a little surprised that companies didn't jump on board yet.
Sure, I understand it's not this against that and we're all tech enthusiasts, but I'm interested in why no-one ran to this opportunity yet- as I imagine I would if I were a fairly large game developer, or a growing marketplace. Is it the politics, the sales.. What are the risks for them ATM?

we have a crypto depression in the moment. This accounts for the whole space. You will see much more adoption when the next buble cycle starts. Until then we will build this up and buy cheap via.

Due to little trade volume, VIA will be delisted from coin-swap.net. Please withdraw any VIA you have ASAP. Regards, CoinSwap-Jared Looks like you're going to be an XPY-only exchange soon...

Agree... This is just the downside of the huge 2013 boom. There are a heck of a lot of coins out there (even forgetting about the obvious losers) and most people need regular fiat money... so the selling will continue to outpace buying : prices will fall to wherever. As to whether new entrants and commercial ventures should adopt VIA/XCH : the market cap is well down the pecking order, and only big is seen as viable in commerce. Growth will come eventually if there is good infrastructure/tech, plus incentive.

Well after projects like GEMS specifically rejected viacoin because of the low hash rate, it was obvious we needed to do something drastic. Sure, more hype value for a crypto messaging app that uses it's own currency secured by the bitcoin blockchain. I understand the trade off is that Gems is having to workaround high transaction cost and slow transaction times by using an "in app currency" which kinda turns the hype value on its head a little, but there you go... You're right, could be done for the hype mainly. So if it's possible to switch midway I think they would. But then again I dont think theyre making this app for the purpose of lasting 10 years... so i imagine they'll want to sell it to a larger company a soon as it gets enough attention.

I wonder if it is technically feasible to switch from counterparty/bitcoin to clearinghouse/viacoin once a project is underway? What would be done with the transaction history? How would assets be transferred? Without starting over completely, would this change be possible?

Maybe just delete your blocks, chainstate and peers.dat and restart
Thank you drak! I deleted as you said and this fixed the problem. No more error and wallet did load. There is no funds on it now (I did backup) and it is 24 weeks behind now so I'm assuming once synchronization is finished fund will be back (not that I had many anyway) :-) Thanks for your help Well I never followed up with this. I'm new to all this so I didn't know how it will work. After all was updated, funds come back as well. Since now everything works great, anyone knows for any VIA faucet? :-) There was Cryptogator but it is currently dry...
