Really dude 10,000 blocks before the real rewarding blocks ? Why not 1000 ? Or only 5000 ? And my favorite (I quote from a VIA pool ): Note: Round Earnings are not credited until 3610 confirms. Why ?

I don't know... but I bet that will change after blk 10000... and the 10,000 was to avoid the monster dumping by miners!

Not sure if this has been addressed yet... But I was mining this from the gate (last night) and I have seen the hashrate just dwindle! My thought was, How unfair that people can rent miners... and throw tons and tons of hashrate at a coin... but then call it off to mine something right away that they can make a profit at, while people like me, and many others too I'm sure, continue to mine this so we CAN get to the blocks that pay out... only to have the renters come back in and blow our hashrate away!
In short... I feel like the miners that are mining these 10,000 '0 reward' blocks are doing all the work, and when that is done, the "renters" will come in and make it to where we don't get hardly anything for that... it doesn't seem right. Maybe there is a way to "reward" the miners that are mining these 0 reward blocks? Like the pools could carry our shares over to pay out ahead of of the "renters" after block 10,000??
Just a thought... anyone else agree? Or am I completely off here?
I have to admit that I really didn't think about it. I have 250 MHS of rigs that I typically rent out and speculate when they are not in use. This launch is important enough to me that I just switched the rigs to VIA when they aren't rented. I would encourage others to do the same. Or contribute a small amount of your hash to support the network. Right on! We're past blk 6000.... if we kept that MHs up like it was last night... I bet we reach blk 10,000 today! Hmm, I'm no expert but wouldn't increased hashrate just cause raising of the difficulty, so it doesn't really matter how much network hashrate the coin has, reaching the block 10000 will take the same amount of time regardless of MH.

@btcdrak, on offense, but I think your team has got the IPO BTC and don't keep any VIA, so what's your motivation to develop this coin?

When wallet went live, we were around block 4100. I was the first miner on the devs pool and saw the block info. 10002 seems a long time away to earn rewards.

Hey guys. Quick question. I'm mining from http://via.oominoo.com/ and my username is one of my wallet addresses. I've been mining for about 12 hours but no coins have been received. I'm mining at 80 M/H so I'm not sure what's going on. I am using the second address out of the 4 defaults when I first installed. Could that be the problem? Mining will be started after block 10000,man I guess I missed that memo. Thanks! I guess I'll just keep contributing my hash for the benifite of this community.

Why, were at block 6,120, that's at least another 24 hours if 3600 block are mined a day. Go move your hash somewhere else and earn something other than zero.

This 10,000 blocks-ZERO-reward scheme it is just to buy time for the dev and his "investors" to pump and dump on Bittrex and other exchanges. In addition with this 3610 confirms this coin it is a palm in a face for any the regular miner. Better don't waste your money and mine something else , let this abomination not reach to the block 10,000.

So you now blame investors of the same thing?

Viacoin is just the foundation stone. I'm not remotely finished yet.

In addition with this 3610 confirms this coin it is a palm in a face for any the regular miner. Better don't waste your money and mine something else , let this abomination not reach to the block 10,000. Looking at bitcoin, there are approximately 144 blocks mined per day. Maturity is set to 120 block, which is pretty much 1 day. Viacoin has 3600 blocks a day, so it's about on par with Bitcoin. There are sound technical reasons for this decision in Bitcoin from people way smarter than any of us here, including me. Many altcoins have chosen to speed up block times and not increase maturity proportionately because either they didn't think it through, or sadly, in some cases on purpose, so they can mine and dump as fast as possible milking their coin for it's short shelf life. FYI Litecoin devs forgot to increase the maturity time, and there have been discussions about increasing it in the future - in their case, it was simple an oversight. Fact is, longer maturity time is something Satoshi himself advocated. So it's simple, if Viacoin is a scam because it has 1 day coin maturity, by definition, so is Bitcoin. You decide.
