I'm assuming something unforeseen came up recently that is prompting this sale, since it seemed like the site was just beginning to take off. Care to share or is it a private matter?

Yeah, some rather personal things have come up today which pushed my hand. And right now I need a bit more stability and less stress. One mistake I made early on was to be too open with people as well as use my name to back the integrity of the site. This has been met in kind with scamming, theft, extortion, threats and harassment. For the last two days, I haven't been able to really use the internet at home due to most likely one of my skype contacts leaking my IP address to DoS my home connection. Now my, and my families full details have put out there publicly with threats against it. I simply can not be involved in this world anymore -- or safely hold onto an ever growing bankroll of untraceable coins that exceed the value of my life in this part of the world.

I also find myself holding onto a bankroll that is way to small to support the bets that happen on the site. When ever I lose money, I fear I'm going to go bankrupt. When ever I make money, I have 80% of the player base screaming vitriol about the site being a scam (it's a giant feedback loop, as everyone experience the same thing)

I have every intention of helping the new owner take the site to its full potential, it's incredibly rewarding seeing people play and love what I created  (just as i was writing this, i see someone reviewed the site: http://bit-vortex.com/reviews/moneypot/ which make it feel all worth while) -- and by no means will drop my baby now, which is why I'm offering 1 month of my time to help a seamless transition.  It's just that I no longer want to own this site.

Well, this is why we can't have nice things. We get a novel game which is being run honestly, and some jackwagon ruins it for everyone. Amidst all the scammers and their sites (ED, DB are two that come to mind), we have people harassing someone who isn't running a scam. Way to go guys! [Slow clap]

With a small starting bankroll and razor thin margin, I understand your apprehension with the variance. As we've seen, lesser folks faced with a similar scenario opted to cheat the players to guarantee their profit. I hope someone with a bigger bankroll (and stronger stomach) and your commitment to running the game honestly buys your site and continues it in the tradition you've established.

Just seems weird that Dice.Ninja bounces the same day this auction goes up....

I recall DMF helped a fair bit on MoneyPot right?

I assume this is going to need a serious code review if purchased.

Same day dice.ninja and their sites go.

Didn't DMF help you a fair bit?  What connection does auction your site have to do with theirs if any or do all these dates just happen to be around the same.

There is no connection what so ever. My only involvement with DMF is that he lent me 25 BTC for the bankroll when i was on the verge of collapse. The site recovered a few days later, I paid him back (he made a sweet 7 BTC). And that was the end. The sale of Money Pot is unrelated to Dice.Ninja

I'm more thinking along the lines of the person who is extorting you possibly going after them.

Hopefully they didn't wack DMF and you are next.  If I was in your position I would maybe make a note with a lawyer about who or what is going on in case someone blasts you or some crazy shit.

Just because espringe sells the website it's a scam? There were never any problems related to MP and I highly doubt there will be (until after the sale). That makes no fucking sense.

I do not think the site is a scam or espringe is scamming after talking to him.

There's a little more connection; I think Eric felt like dmf was a friend. The two sites linked to each other. dice.ninja had a big "we also recommend" button for moneypot on their front page. They had the same for dicebitco.in until the nonce skipping was first discovered, too.

It's sad to see these sites going down, for whatever reason.

Eric selling moneypot feels a lot like fireduck (?) selling satoshidice to Erik Voorhees when it started to get big. He wanted to cash out, and not be subject to the massive variance and legal risk of running a site of questionable legality.

I assume this is going to need a serious code review if purchased.

The code is all open source, and has been for some time.

User "Steve" on the site seems to have reviewed it fully, and contributed patches improving it. The "chat moderator" patch that went live recent was, I believe, Steve's work. If there was anything untoward going on I'm sure Steve would have blown the whistle by now.

The code is here, for review:

Just a few months ago, Scrat sold CoinRoll... not to namworld, but some other pair of dudes.

doog, if you're not going to resurrect JD, would you consider either selling it, or making the code open source? I'm sure you just want to avoid either the massive variance or the legal risk of running a site. Or maybe you got tired of 18 hour work days.

I must say that is a great game, but people have to be careful because is X2 dangerous then any other dice game that you get used to. Addicting game but stay careful!

I got tired of the stress of holding millions of dollars of other people's money that I had no intention of stealing, but which I knew lots of other people wouldn't hesitate to steal if they could find me.

Try to imagine being in that position. Other people's money isn't an asset, it's a liability (unless you plan on stealing it).

The code is nothing special. It's pretty easy to put a dice site together. See DB and DN for recent examples of sites that worked as well as or better than JD. What seems to be "special" is to have a site operator who is competent and isn't going to cheat his customers. It's a sorry state of affairs that that seems to be such a rare combination, and I'm starting to give up hope that it'll happen again.

I understand. That's why I'm here. Smiley I'm actually not hard to find, but then I'm not easy to get close to. I'm in and out of many places restricted to "normal" people, so those who want to steal from my investors would probably be doing some "mission impossible" kind of thing.

Have faith. I'll probably be just like your previous site, starting up with no announcement, and no sig campaigns.

If I can just get these two people to work. (I'm not a coder, but I can understand some code.)

Eric, are you sure you won't regret auctioning moneypot? It had potential to become even bigger and I'm sure you know this. I remeber you regretting accepting the "bail out" after the website was back on profit and giving investments back in days. This decision seems to be so sudded and I really hope it's not going to end up as something you regret. If the problems you mentioned are truly that serious though, you've got all my wishes for a swift recovery.

Cheers and I hope to see you around again. The crypto world needs more talented and honest people like you Eric. Smiley
