I tried contacting the owner/operator of the site - CoinLearn - but haven't heard anything back.

I also have pending, like 2 weeks already? I guess it won't be a paying site anymore..

Thanks man, I checked the full list and they are not currently listed as a Silver Member. It did seem a little dubious, though I suppose I assumed it may have been slightly more legit than most out there. I am fairly new to BTC although I have followed it for a little while. I have put some fiat money into it, all the spare bills I had, and I am looking into ways to build up to my first full coin+.

And the more so for all the BS claims of being able to earn piles and piles of BTC regularly, then running a points system instead of direct earnings. Looks VERY much like the standard scam PTC setup - promise the earth, give people dirt.

And while I've got your attention, does anybody know of some good, trusted BTC casinos? Where people report decent payouts without a withdraw hassle? Any of them that do sign-up/first deposit bonuses? I would have posted this in the gambling subforum, but didn't want spammers/scammers misinforming me.

For more money, you'll have to do more work. And for that, you'll need to find people who will pay in BTC, which is still quite rare.

Given BTC's history as a black market currency and the difficulties it faces in being accepted as a legitimate currency by payment processors (and the total lack of consumer protection), proper earning sites are still rare. It's gone into the "next big thing" stage, with all the newspapers and popular sites trying to fit the word "bitcoin" into any article they can... so all the asshole marketers, scammers and idiots are jumping on the bandwagon and doing their best to destroy everything BTC has so far achieved.

That's the thing with faucets: they're free and legitimate (provided they use a micro-payment system or prove their worth). People (not you) complain that they only give out fractions of a cent, but then I don't see those people standing on the street, handing out cash for filling in Captchas.

I think it's one of the best faucet lists available on the net with detailed descriptions of what each service does, how much it pays and how much you need to accumulate in order to get paid. The list is kept up-to-date and growing and is not limited to faucets. What I also like is that the information is quite fair and you are warned if there is risk associated with any service.

The site is new but it has definitely been my favourite for a while. A new feature allowing personalized faucet lists is supposed to come soon

Yes one needs to be careful with websites that have lists of free bitcoin sites etc.

It is best to use this list on this forum that is monitored by not only the community but by the forum moderators, to make sure everything that is added to the list is legit and nothing else is going on under the hood.

Avast! reports malicious content.

I contacted the owner of the site (who happens to be my friend) and he was very surprised to say the least that his site was marked as malicious content by both Avast! and McAfee. I'm not technical but he explained that this could be related to the fact that antivirus sites often analyse the rating of the main domain and not the actual subdomain.

I am using Norton Internet Security myself and it never complained about it. Anyway, it's a different discussion and I'm not going to promote the url if it shows as malicious. Just wanted to warn people that many similar sites hosted with "bad" reputation domains could suffer from the same problem.

It seems to be a web miner. It seems to be legit, but the fact it's mining BTC on a CPU using Java (all three factors decrease your payout) it doesn't give anything near the amount required to pay the electricity, provided you'll get enough to even withdraw.
If you would like to mine coins, I would suggest downloading GUIminer scrypt instead and mine scrypt coins (preferrably Litecoin because it is the largest and most stable of all altcoins). Then, depending on your computer and electricity provider, you will probably go plus (although it's still not guarranteed). However, with this method you will still earn hundreds if not thousands more coins than with the site you linked.

I don't trust any sites like this. I feel the era of average individuals getting anything out of mining is long past.
Seriously you will make a lot more from faucets than you will web mining, and you don't get much at all from faucets.

The best way to get into Bitcoin these days is to buy it, and/or get your customers or employer to pay you in BTC.

If the Red Coins faucet operator is watching this thread, might I suggest a "Check Balance" feature for addresses?  I have some older addresses that I have used to visit faucets and would like to check their balance.  The problem is, I do not want to have to submit a request for free bitcoins, as then my OCD would compel me to visit the faucet to flush out the addresses (for a 40 satoshi hit per hour, 5430 satoshi minimum payout = 136 hours).

Or maybe even change the faucet payout system to use a micro-transaction service like CoinBox or Microwallet?

I don't use it, but this is probably a direct result of the conversation between myself and "vola" on DP here: https://forums.digitalpoint.com/threads/bitcoin-crypto-currency.2699052 (starting from my comment near the middle of page 2).

S/he is either a rabid supporter of the site or runs it, at a guess, and is desperate to prove that it's worthwhile and pays. As I said in that thread, I really don't care (I don't use it - not my style of earning at all), but vola gets abusive as soon as the site's reliability is questioned.

Draw what conclusions you may. Extra info is always useful.

The payments have come through. Slowness due to blockchain.info issues supposedly.
