Let's be honest if this was secretly Qora then I would be gone.  Qora is like the NXT-fork equivalent of Monero, perhaps the most annoying community.

Lol nice trolling.

Every day, 245,000 gems are taken from the reserve the distributed directly to users according to an automatic fair algorithm. The gems are “dropped” into the users’ wallets, hence the term “airdrop”.

What is the reserve and who control it ?
What happen to the dropped gems in the wallet ? Does the user get full control over it ?

Quote
Advertisers looking to use the Gems network as a platform for contextual ads, will be required to buy gems and spend them within the network. All revenues from advertising are recycled back into the network. Part of the gems revenue may compensate the party receiving the unsolicited message, and the rest will be added to future airdrops for distribution between the users who contribute the most to the network.

Who will be filtering/choosing the ads ?

What are the unsolicited message ?

45% of the total Gems are planned to be distributed as daily Airdrop rewards during ~5 years after launch.

our approach is that everything that can be decentralize should be decentralize and ideally the airdrop should be decentralize... but we are pragmatic and after researching this issue and talking with ethereum and counterparty lead developers their best advice was to "take things one step at a time".

Right now we are developing a simpler working model of centralized airdrops, and later we plan to enhance it from there. From my knowledge counterparty plans in the future to try solve this kind of a problem.

same answer as above.

What are the unsolicited message ?

Google and Facebook base 99% of their revenue on targeted advertising. Networks monetize users by exposing them to content. With Gems: Sending content between friends is free but sending unsolicited content or advertisements costs Gems. This economic model achieve 3 goals: Stopping spam. Controlling ads. Creating real demand for Gems in the market. In our opinion after studying other successful messaging apps the main attraction to the currency will be driven by 1) user growth and 2) text usage. As these two figures grow the demand to buy Gems in the market by advertisers will grow.

The way this works is:
- Advertisements and unsolicited messages are opt-out.
- Advertisers must trade and buy Gems in order to operate.
- Spam kept under control since unsolicited messages aren't free.
- Advertisers pay you for the right to contact you.
- Gems revenue is recycled back into the network as future air drops.

It's important to note that Gems users have a choice, if users want to stay anonymous (not expose any of their info, "self destruct messages" etc) or they wish to not receive any “spam” they can do that. If users accept to receive unsolicited messages or to share more info (in order to get better targeted advertising) they can choose to and will be rewarded with Gems paid by the advertisers.

I'm curious if any consideration has been given to using Clearinghouse rather than Counterparty. It uses the same protocol but runs on the Viacoin block chain. This block chain and network wants to be friendly to 3rd party apps like GEMS while bitcoin trys to break them and considers counterparty and other 3rd party stuff blockchain spam. Via coin also has a 24 second block time rather than 10 minutes so confirms are much faster.

I would be concerned that a future btc update would break counterparty, hence GEMS.

It's a good question and yes Clearinghouse has been considered.
Viacoin does have advantages like faster block time but it's disadvantages are bigger in our opinion.

Bitcoin blockchain is more secured and the ecosystem (3rd party application) are much bigger. About ~300,000,000$ VC Capital have gone into bitcoin ecosystem this year - how much into Viacoin or any other altcoin?
Gems success is tied with Bitcoin success and therefore it appeals to a larger audience.

Viacoin block chain and network wants to be friendly to 3rd party apps like GEMS while bitcoin trys to break them and considers counterparty and other 3rd party stuff blockchain spam.
one bitcoin core dev does not represent bitcoin

I would be concerned that a future btc update would break counterparty, hence GEMS.
This is not possible. Counterparty devs added Pay-To-Pubkeyhas Functionality for a "worst-case scenario": https://www.counterparty.co/pay-to-pubkeyhash-functionality-added/

Sorry but that is not possible. There are endless ways to encode data in transactions, and they are required for Bitcoin to work at all. Counterparty is here to stay.  Smiley

Quote
Who owns the network?

One of the fundamental differences between Gems and social network applications like WhatsApp, Telegram or Facebook Chat is the definition of network ownership. Gems is the first social network that is not privately held by a corporation - there is no single entity that controls the network and profits from it.

1. So the app(s) is open source and under which license?

During the beta development phases the source code will not be available to the public. The client side application will be open sourced once we have performed the necessary quality assurance and security analysis to ensure this process will not put our users at risk.

This will enable third party developers to help audit and improve upon the functionality of the Gems application. We see much value in the participation of the open source community.

It is important to emphasize that all currency-related transactions are currently based on open source code (Counterparty) and the core of our IM technology is based on open source software as well (SignalR).

We are currently hiring a respected security auditor from the community.

2. "The first social..."
So is there a proof of existence a GitHub repository or something else that it really exists beside texts/graphics?

beta version of the app will be release during the pre-sale.
we are also hiring a respected security auditor from the community

3. Gems is not the first social network that is not privately held by a corporation just 2 examples for social networks that are not privately held by a corporation:
GNU social and Diaspora
Also if you add the term "mobile" there would exist
Tox.im
which is a social network that is completely open source available for linux, windows, osx, android and ios and everybody can contribute code to it to develop it further.

Gems white paper is a work in progress.
We are always updating things and working on the terminology.

We are talking about Social Currency Network.

In our opinion for a “social currency” to succeed it has to have a low entrance barrier and appeal to a large audience. We think these two main points separates Gems from Reddcoin and other "social currencies":

(1) To get started in Gems, the user does not need to know anything about Bitcoin, Counterparty, cryptography, or encryption. Registration takes less than ten seconds, and can be done through a mobile device. Gems is the first cryptocurrency, providing seamless gateway to mainstream users. Gems has a viral concept of rewarding users for inviting their friends.
(2) Gems is built on top the bitcoin blockchain making sending & receiving gems and Bitcoins between users as easy as possible. Gems success is tied with Bitcoin success and therefore it appeals to a larger audience.
