Keeping track of all different alt coin wallets was annoying Angry And I don't trust exchanges.

I'm ready for liftoff.

Are you?

(of course I had never more than ~5% in alts)

focus on 4-5 alts that you think are worth it and stay with them. Having 10 alts to follow is a PITA. If you want to make money, keep it simple.

I think you're wise to sell your alts and put them into btc. alts will probably be worthless in the future.

The only alt I have is LTC too. Got 10 and thought I'd keep them and see where they end up as an experiment.

4-5? I never had more than 2 alts at a time (I once owned LTC and Peercoin) and own 1 now (XMR). There are too few valuable altcoins to hold 4 or 5.

I had darkcoin, monero, doge, gridcoin, XC, anoncoin, PND, VIA.

Think I lost money on all except DRK, XMR, DOGE. VIA and XC weren't too bad.

(Made by far the most on DRK which offset significant losses on others. Well, I made the mistake of spending DRK profits on other alts and promptly lost them.)

At the end of the day I don't see any threatening Bitcoin as the "gold standard".

Maybe I'll regret dumping DRK and XMR, but hodling Bitcoin has never caused me problems so far... Cool

For alts look at http://coinmarketcap.com/ it will show you which coins have the best marketcap.
Also look at how long it has survived.

In my opinion everything under $10 million should be avoided. Above $100 million can be viable. Above 1$ billion is safe.
LTC has survived as long as Bitcoin and is a good investment in my opinion.
BTC is always your best bet.

Good move.  Stick to bitcoin.  Sure, you might miss a hyper bubble in an altcoin but there are always far more losers than winners chasing that dream.  Ever heard of a well recognised business proudly declaring to the media they now take dogecoin or litecoin as payment?  Neither has anyone else.  It's bitcoin or it's nothing.

For the time being, this seems to be the wisest way to go.  I used to keep a small chunk in LTC but converted all but a few to BTC a few months back, thankfully.

IMO, the alt coin scene is a den of vipers looking to prey on the wild eyed vulnerabilities of those looking to make a quick buck. Some continue to fall for the next coin and then the next after they've been burned thinking there's always a chance at a moonshot that never comes. They fall for the PR and videos that scammers put out and then they part w/ precious bitcoins for that chance to make more that typically ends w/ them losing. People, don't waste your time on anything besides bitcoin, you'll regret it. There's only room for one sheriff in this town.

The only stupid thing to do right now is to not put your disposable income into BTC.

I have only one alt at the moment because I think it's the best investment of 2015.

Ha, then you didn't lose that much of your total portfolio Wink Smart move. We might have been in for a 3000% Litecoin increase after all, who knows Wink But I think it really is most wise to just keep your crypto-speculation in the Bitcoin world!

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...

Exactly. Even if there is a crash to 400 (which is hardly a certainty) then this will be negligible compared with the exponential rise afterwards.

I gotta say, I'm not entirely sure where we're going now. We may go up dramatically, at least back to $1000 or $1500... But if people decide that Bitcoin just isn't their thing, we will go further down, and maybe even to painful levels! In that case it may be the best thing to hedge and wait until we get back to $700 and are in a definite bull-market

I should have gotten into Bitcoin back in 1992...
