They run on this pool partly because Kano wrote the book on their miners;
Well to give complete credit where due, Kano and one other prominent miner software guru here who shall remain un-named in this thread to keep the peace wrote the book.
Yeah I just added to the book - main parts (other than specific drivers I did) being I wrote the API (and all the php stuff) and designed/implemented the USB upgrade to cgminer Smiley

One of my rare OT's: @ kano, what do you think of the chances for someone (tekcomm in this case) cracking/writing a new s9 driver with zero input from Bitmain as to how the chips even communicate? re the reboot of the s9 bounty with the goal of it being fully GPL compliant?

If my miner goes offline for any reason (in the recent example offline for 5 hours due to failed surge protector).

Is there a ramp backup delay to get back to full force? I believe I read a new miner takes 7 ish days.

On a related note I have a S9 powered by a EVGA SuperNOVA 1600 P2 80+ PLATINUM. Do I need to run a surge protect between it the power supply and the wall outlet? Shouldn't the fuse in the fuse box just trip if there is a surge?

The fuse would trip but I think the worry is that enough current might pass through before it trips. I could be wrong. I used a whole home surge protector on my panel, for the 150 bucks plus another 30 for a breaker, everything on the panel is protected.

Well that all died with the S5
I was gonna do the S5, then worked out that the work queue issues were not in the fake USB<->SPI kernel driver but inside the FPGA that controlled the miner, so it all became a complete waste of time.
They ignored everything else I'd done with the S1/S2/S3 already anyway ...

... and sending me a replacement board for the dead half of my S5 was too expensive for Bitmain also Tongue
Lulz they make hundreds of million a year (now) and a single S5 board (back then long after the S5 was released) was too much Cheesy

Then I was supposedly gonna be sent an S7 but that didn't happen either ... so I gave up at that point.

The opensource project that another butmain employee tried to get going also got NO backing from bitmain at all.
Yeah bitmain definitely has not been the best thing that happened to Bitcoin Tongue

But ... Bitcoin should be free to progress as everyone chooses, not to be controlled by morons (core) saying what Bitcoin MUST be. Anyone who wants centralised control, go elsewhere thank you very much ...

Just needs another five or so hours to fully ramp back up (and probably not even that long).  If you're fully in right now, you could potentially not mine here for just over two weeks, and get paid from any blocks found.  I wouldn't worry about those five hours if you were fully in already, will mean very little in the overall scheme of things (and even if it did, you'd just ramp back up to full while you were sleeping anyway).

...
Again the most misunderstood point about PPLNS Smiley

The ramp is simply spreading out the reward for your shares over the 5Nd after each share is submitted.
The "Time" of the ramp is not a factor in any of the calculations, the ramp is simply 5Nd worth of shares.

How "Long" 5Nd takes depends on the pool hash rate - which at the moment is around 14 days ... ish.
Bit if the pool hash rate increases, the 5Nd time decreases, and conversely, if the pool hash decreases, then the 5Nd time increases.
None of that affects your expected reward.

A short 5Nd ramp up/down means you will be faster to full hash rate but also faster to get down to zero hash rate.
The total you are rewarded is still expected to be the same for the same amount of work you do.

However, assuming the pool hash rate stays at what it currently is - around 24PHs - then the amount of time you ramp down will equal the amount of time it will take you to ramp back up.
That partial ramp down only gets to zero if you ramp down for 5Nd or more (i.e. 500%)
If you ramp down only 1/5 - 1Nd or 100% diff of pool shares - then you'll ramp back up in the same 1/5 - 1Nd 100% diff of pool shares after that - but the times wont be exactly the same - but the expected result is the same.

Another way to look at it would be to say that if you didn't mine for 1 day, your total lost rewards would be expected to end up being the equivalent of 1 day's mining, but the lost rewards would be spread out over the 5Nd from the start of the time you stopped mining until 5Nd after you started mining again
i.e. you get rewarded during the down and back up ramp, but in total yaw expected to lose 1 day of rewards due to not mining for 1 day.

Yeah for another block.  And it was canaan that I just learned about!  My guess is that we are still at .0002105 BTC per day per TH.  And BTC broke 10k last night which is amazing.  Yeah!
I stand corrected - now that the 5np hash rate is closer to actual, we are at 0.00021392 for the month (135% BTC over last month and way more in tether).

Kano, if not core or cash then who?
No, I mean that no one should be trying to control Bitcoin.
Bitcoin is controlled by mining.
If core wants to be part of that then they need to use some of their billions of BTC dollars they have, to mine BTC and be part of BTC as it was designed to be, not try and control BTC by saying they know better and everyone must do as they say ... that's centralised control by definition Tongue

Man, thanks Kano for the ramp up/ramp down time. PG&E (the power company here in CA) had an outage where my mine is, and I was offline for almost a day. Luckily I still got almost a full reward for the block this morning.
