The adoptation cycle!
I'm really tempted sometimes to let people do surveys in the street:
"Do you know Bitcoin" "how is it different"
"Have you considered getting some and why/ why not"
"Do you consider you current currency safe for saving"
"Are you in need of a no chargeback currency for online shopping"
"How do money get their value"
We kind of know how people in general would answer such questions. There is no hype or marketing. Bitcoin is no selling point for people that don't know about them.
Bitcoin looks bright enough from inside bitcointalk.org but it need more niches where the advantages are obvious and in demand.
You don't talk about how easy you can buy drugs on silk road with colleges or in the subway, besides building an economy on illigal trade has no future in mass adoptation. Gambling is a good niche with demand for a payment system like Bitcoin and and not considered unethical and a crime in the same sense as drugs. US gamblers are not the largest market.
We need marketing badly, either by a large operater or a cooperative coordinated effort among businesses.
We are in the head of too few people. It's going to take a while still, it's not a any day soon event. Exchange rate says nothing about penetration.
I read the same promising news as you and it is going the right way. So yes we are early in the cycle. When we get out of there is the question.

Over $2.5 millions in bids.
What's the record again? 2.8? something like that?

What's the record again? 2.8? something like that? Probably, not sure. Except that spike in september to nearly 4 millions. But some say it was mtgox's glitch.

I'd say that the market sentiment is somewhere between optimism and excitement. Not thrill yet, not even close to euphoria. I feel we're only counting down to the breakout.
This breakout would break the 2012 high, maybe spike to 20's, make a correction and then possibly explode to an all time high. Basically if we break the 2012 high there is nothing stopping us from making it all the way to a new all time high. Perhaps with some bumps on the way, but anyway.

Is it me, or are no new ask/bids being put up? It seems like walls on both sides are slowly being whittled away.

The chart right above you disagrees. The asks are shrinking, but the bids are growing.

What bothers me is that there is no site that would take the volume on all the various exchanges and plot it on a single chart. Right now if you look at mtgox their volume throughout 2012 is constant in BTc while they only represent 60% of all the volume.. Would we really nice to see the rest of the market plotted on the same chart.

I say we're near the euphoria phase Nah, that was back in 2011 with the "Despondency" being around Jan-March of 2012 Your timing is slightly off. At least for me, despondency (if at all) was around September 2011. In November (with Prague) there was already new hope and rate slightly on the rise. I was already relieved in Janurary 2012.

"Are you in need of a no chargeback currency for online shopping"
This got me thinking. I always thought no-chargeback was a bit bad for customers. But now that you ask this so plainly I must admit I never ever made use of chargeback. I guess only criminals use chargeback
