You can make real profit by letting Bitcoin grow and not by speculating against it... speculators are motherf...... Destroy everything on this world
Speculators tend to buy low and sell high, which stabilizes the price. If anything, Bitcoin has attracted too few speculators.

I'll throw my best GUESS out there - pullback next week to $18-20 range followed by 8 week consolidation phase then a strong rally to $45-50 range.

Why do people sell like stupid? Just because the price is comming to 30 usd?? There is no barrier... just the one in minds of weak people...
Then let them and take advantage of it if you've got the chance to buy more or just chill and let the market get on with it if you're not intending to do anything in a hurry. Personally having been buying since October I have yet to experience what I'd call a proper sell-off. If this carried on downwards for some distance for some time I think I'd be more confident in subsequent growth because the more this happens the more likely we are to shake off some weak hands, let some 'early adopter money' come into play (for those who had been waiting for the rally to peak before grabbing some $) and have the coin move more cheaply into stronger and newer hands On the other hand if you just got some in order to make a BTC-only purchase then buy either quickly or wait! It's not often you'll lose out by holding between exchanging and buying but now is one of those rare occasions.

Am I seeing things again or has anyone else noticed the strange behaviour of the 700 BTC ask bot that keeps popping up and refreshing itself near the ask price? Sometimes at the lowest ask, sometimes a bit higher. If someone takes a bite, after a while it gets reset to 700 BTC again. This has been going on since last night.
This guy either has very deep pockets and want to sell everything, or his manipulation is effective and he is pushing the price down and buying back at lower prices. In the last case this could be going on for a long time... At least until I get some cash into the exchanges.

Yes, I think this could be the case, or multiple people doing the same thing. The selling pressure at 31.30 seemed manufactured. The walls were completely eaten TWICE only to have thousands placed at 31.30 the moment it was about to rally past it again. Probably the same person/multiple people with the same idea.

It's called an iceberg order. How is it manipulation if someone tries to hide the size of his ask?

It's called an iceberg order. How is it manipulation if someone tries to hide the size of his ask? I said it could also be someone with deep pockets who wants to sell everything. In that case I wouldn't call it manipulation. But it seems to be a combination of both, because the ask price keeps changing. I thought a standard iceberg order would just stay at the same ask price. How do you enter an iceberg order on MtGox?

You don't. That's what MtGox has an API for. I would appreciate though to get a pointer to some HelloWorld trading bot to implement such a thing using the MtGox API.

Unless they're very stupid and panic-prone or very smart and know how to manipulate the price to cause artificial instability that works in their favor. Speculators try to speculate on the future price of bitcoin and anticipating this, they buy and sell. If they are good at it, they will sell at peak preventing it from spiking even further and buy at low preventing to spike further again. "Inducing swings" is "pump and dump" behavior. If for example you run around and tell everybody that Bitcoin will be the future but sell your coins for good once they reached a certain value.

This trading bot in Python seems to use the MtGox API. I haven't looked at it myself yet tough. I have also made a simple PHP MtGox API connection in the past, but you'd have to contact me by PM.

500 BTC buy, nice! It looks like the selling pressure due to mentioned iceberg order is gone for the time being.

This order appeared when the second down-move had started yesterday (the one that broke down through 29). Not sure if it was even formed by that order (but I'm sure it wasn't that order alone, since at least I myself was shorting). The size of that order is really cleverly chosen. It looks as if you can eat it. If someone were to put a 1400 or larger wall in, it is perceived as a roadblock. All we can do is try to buy/sell into it, hoping it will be pulled if we really try. But an order round 500 looks like an obstacle which could be overcome. But in the end, it's irrelevant. The forces are what counts. If the pool of people wanting to sell is exhausted, the buyers take over; if the buyers are exhausted, the sellers take over. Only the rhythm is what changes

Where are you shorting? I've been looking for an easy way to short BTC and trade calls/puts but I don't like MPEX
