Did anyone with buy orders of 36-45 on here actually get them filled during that WTF moment? Curious about what actually happened there.
I had orders about 38 and they got filled.

I filled at 34-37, though can't buy more as I am out of funds like the big guy up there. Embarrassed

What's gonna happen when people in Europe wake up? Will they panic sell or buy for cheap?

What do you think...

Btw. I wrote to MtGox about the big lags - answer: top management is working on it... Smiley

Just woke up in Europe. Not selling myself, only a little on overvalued local markets.

Why mtgox has a trading lag? Do they do the trading work in php with a celeron?

My anger against what is wrong in the Bitcoin community is productive:
Bitcointa.lk - Replace "Bitcointalk.org" with "Bitcointa.lk" in this url to see how this page looks like on a proper forum (Announcement Thread)

Me too, I woke up made some sort of undefinable noise when I saw the price. And than 'loaded' made clear he buys, and I made coffee. I totally missed the action, feels bad, but I think I would feel worse if I sold.

Nothing like reactionary upgrading.. It would be far too much work to plan and prepare ahead of time.  I do understand that Gox couldn't possibly have guessed that bitcoin trading would continue to grow in volume.  Angry

Maybe coinlab is going to take over and they did not bother, who know... But yeah this is just sad...

<neofutur> 02:08 <@MagicalTux> Blitzboom: we're working on some changes that will improve this a lot
<neofutur> 02:08 < Blitzboom> ETA?
<neofutur> 02:08 <@MagicalTux> we're pushing this urgently (but still after testing), so whithin next 24 hours
<neofutur> probably this update is being pushed to prod
<neofutur> and it will be back within hours

I'm guessing a lot of the volatily is caused by the lag. If people hurriedly put in emotional-based orders and these execute minutes later, irrational movement all over the place is preprogrammed. If this is correct, there might be calmer times ahead after the update. Still interesting, but calmer.

They already pay $10k US a month on hardware, I do not think that is the issue.

Their hardware is pathetic for a trading platform.

https://mtgox.com/img/pdf/20120831/Transparency.008.jpg

They need to call Oracle or one of the big heavy hitters.  They should be running multiple distributed servers (Database, Web Front End, Order Matching, etc).  Something like the ZFS based Exadata or similar.

It was long ago time to abandon the Dell.

Well I missed out on a good sell in the 48.9 range due to the severe lag on MtGox.

I would have placed various buy orders but as MtGox turnd to shit I completely missed all of this. I saw an 11 minute wait at one point.

Then I transferred my BTC off the exchange only for a large backlog of unconfirmed transactions to build up which meant all my BTC were stuck on my PC and I couldn't move anything at this point.

At this point I went to sleep.

This was a missed opportunity due to very bad performance on MtGox and massive blockchain transaction confirmation delays.

MtGox should have additional backup server hardware in place ready to go in case one or of the main servers fail, these backup servers could be brought online as main front end / processing servers should one of the main servers fail.

Their public facing servers which serve up themarket information should never fail. Websites like the excellent one by Clark Moody were failing to open socket connections to MtGox so I can only assume they turned off the data via API service or it was completely overloaded.

I can't help buy feel they don't have much of a backup plan there and they certainl don't have enough redundant hardware in place.

Some serious changes need to be made before these kind of issues cause a crash by themselves.

Scalability is very important.

As for the blockchain transaction delays, I don't know what can be done about this but something needs to be done. In times where there's a high volume of transactions they need to be processed ina reliable and timely manner. This isn't happening right now.

They should purchase the hardware outright and colocate it. All they need to pay for then is the bandwidth and cabinet space.

Multiple redundant servers are required along with different servers for backend transaction processing and the front end data API processing systems.

I stayed up very late, hooked by the high-volume action... Now everything feel so slow and lame...

Hope some other big fish panic sells. I had a consistent bid at 33.0, but the price only went down to 33.30 Wink
