Then I moved up to a Vic 20 when those came out- what a powerhouse! And COLOR even! Pretty sure I paid more for that Vic 20 setup (with the fancy tape recorder and extra memory, IO adapter, etc) than I have in my current rig.
That's...that's a computer Huh

Then I moved up to a Vic 20 when those came out- what a powerhouse! And COLOR even! Pretty sure I paid more for that Vic 20 setup (with the fancy tape recorder and extra memory, IO adapter, etc) than I have in my current rig.

Yes, from Sinclair. They made an expensive digital watch also. The watch would cost about $5.00 today but was expensive for back in the 70's when you consider how much that amount of money would be worth today.

Yup, just gotta hook it up to a tv or monitor.

And oh yea, you had to assemble the stuff yourself. Came as a kit.

I just want to know why he isn't CTO anymore and why around the time when he went dark large amounts of xpy were moving around.  IDC who he wants to call himself lets just call him Zombie Joe.  Anyone have an extra account on HT that wants to put it up on the chopping block and ask wtf joe is see if someone replys.

He is still listed as CTO of GAW here:

Im not quite old enough for those but i remember bending CPU pins and straightening them out because i put them in a socket wrong and trying to work out the right way to put cables in before everything was keyed and fit only one way....

Missed out on the fun of soldering much though.  Mainly soldered new caps etc during repairs.

To people these days the amount of work involved would be stunning.  These days i can put a basic system together in 15mins.  Most of that unpacking time.  My first computer took days to get right

Yes, from Sinclair. They made an expensive digital watch also. The watch would cost about $5.00 today but was wildly expensive back in the late 70's.

They made a calculator - http://img.gawkerassets.com/post/4/2012/12/1973_sinclair_cambridge_calculator.jpg

as well of course the ZX80, ZX81, ZX Spectrum 48K & 128K and the QL.

I still have a Spectrum and a QL boxed, sadly though the rest of the goodies I have lost through time.
However, my Uncle does still have the Watch and Calculator.

If you ever really want to learn, you can still find the schematics for the Apple I, complete with wiring diagrams. You may have to hunt for the ICs, but you can literally build the entire thing from scratch.

And the ZX81 was so successful that Timex (the watch company) bought it and sold it as the Timex 1000. I made a few Heathkits back then. Very time consuming. People today would not have the patience to put a kit like that together. Probably why Heathkit went out of business decades ago.

RE: Joe - Lets take the theory a little further w/ a related matter:

Assume two JM's do exist/existed; lets also assume CTO JM is no longer w/ GAW - who is running the GAW miners down at the mining farm in Hattiesburg, MS?

JM, as GAW CTO, being a stolen identity may make it a little easier to fabricate a story about mining, data centers, etc.

Just a Re-HashTalk from yesterday. Saw this discussion happening about the Ars Technica GAW article. I *think* the entire thread is gone now, can't find it anyways. This guy got INSTANTLY banned for this post. How Effing ridiculous is THAT!?

Goodbye! Thanks for the BTC & $ ! You have been Paycoined Chump!

Also, anybody notice this nonsense going on over there?

Thanks, NuShrike. One notable link from that page: GAWCEO tells unbelievers to leave, doesn't explain how if they are stuck with HashStakers.
https://hashtalk.org/topic/29906

And this is a new one I think - Gyft and GAW sort out contract details on Twitter:
https://twitter.com/TomOnBTC/status/557941432439570434

Notice Josh's (largely irrelevant) comment that ends the Twitter Gyft chain-- "We had prepaid for all our cards before the service launched."

Translation: We purchased the gyft cards before launching PaySave.

Problems:
First, why carry inventory for a business model that absolutely does not need inventory? Are you hiding funds? Or just can't code for shit?

Second, that makes the PaySave launch more of a fiasco. It would mean the XPY did not need to get dumped right that second to pay for anything. It would also indicate they have zero faith in XPY if they can't hold on to it for a day or even a hours to try to evenly distribute the dumping.

Third: If GAW purchased in fiat (which Josh has said repeatedly, but perhaps I am just "misunderstanding"), then he also opened himself up to BTC/$ fluctuations unnecessarily. Why do that? BTC has been fairly steadily rising since January 14th, so Josh would have lost a few extra tens of thousand of dollars there.

Notice Josh's (largely irrelevant) comment that ends the Twitter Gyft chain-- "We had prepaid for all our cards before the service launched."

I don't know how Gyft operates but it could mean they require a deposit from new accounts. Not necessarily to purchase specific cards - which wouldn't make sense, how would they know in advance what to buy? Wouldn't be the first time when a simple thing gets twisted beyond recognition like that.

Good point. It does not make sense to purchase cards beforehand, which is what I was having problems with, but it would make a bit more to simply have a positive account balance. I hate whatever language that is that Josh speaks.

Normally any future expectations would already be priced in by the market, but this is not a normal market, so who knows Smiley

Also it depends on what if any details about the buy back GAW will announce.

Don't worry Homero is hard at work visiting Tesla and stuff...

I already confirmed with Tesla's PR people in person last September when I was there they have never heard of him and he has never been there. I am surprised (well, not really) he still plays that busted myth card.

Be careful, as we get closer to feb more people will realize that the "buyback" doesn't actually start till march, and that they will not get their actual 20 for a while.
