Funny that, and here I thought pre-mining was the kiss of death for a new coin? Well it's not like almost any other pre-mined alt coin has flopped.
Anybody with half a brain already cashed out. That's why people would see mods and long time gaw supporters fire selling their hashlets on the market and announcing their leave on HashTalk. 12 million coins mined at "$20" each?

12 million coin pre-mine. Wasn't it supposed to be 5.5million per the "whitepaper" or ZERO per Homero GAWCEO (who doesn't know what a pre-mine is)? Has anyone actually seen evidence of the blockchain yet? I use the debug console getblockhash <height> getblock <hash> Ex: getblockhash 1 <-- hash for block 1 getblock 0000000e0a66049e6c3dff958a3c5bd7de957869f4fb7de82d4c2869819e180a <-- this is the hash of block one.

To any doubters about what a PayCoin OG I am - few are more original PayCoin owners than this. Let's do this, Homero!NOTICE:
If GAW has trademarked the name we will need to change it at cryptsy.
Exercise CAUTION, Mullick, if Cryptsy does anything to forcefully change or remove the original Paycoin you will open yourselves up for a massive potential lawsuit. Josh Garza, in a best case scenario, will NOT get any trademark for at least another year and we will fight any such ridiculous attempt to steal our namebrand. Please check with your legal counsel before you do anything because PayCoin [the original] has always been alive and well and like many open source projects - it is now ran and controlled by the original PayCoin owners and community - we the people, in the spirit and goodwill of Satoshi and against bankers and kleptocrats, like Josh Garza and anyone else who comes to our communities to steal our names, our identities and our hard work just because they have more money than us. This is America and this will not happen without one massive fight!
Best regards... GAW is going to need to change the name anyways

Well, just like typical GAW fashion. Released then 2 minutes later it broke. Rollback for maintenance incoming?

Excuse my ignorance.. although I have been mining a while I have never bothered looking what a fork actually is... Does it mean the blockchain started going in two separate directions (one good and one bad)? How can one tell?

Hmmm... pool shows network diff 5.79M, wallet shows network diff 20M+, so unless there is some unit conversion that I don't understand it looks like you might be right. Edit: apparently someone big switched from solo to pool, now pool shows higher diff. Looks like a mess.
