One small item of note. While I completely agree that 4 underclocked SP20's are the way to go, Phil's "open door" picture might be a shade misleading. At the time that picture was taken, I'll bet the air temp outside was 5C or less. It's not obvious to me exactly how to best cool a miner when the incoming air is 35C. I get the exhaust plan and all that, but you can't get low temps when you start with 35C air.

Dig a trench and bury a pipe and pull the air into your space vent it out upper window. If you have the space to do that that is and vaulted type ceiling with a window higher in the vaulted space.

What you guys try to do when one particular ASIC in SP20 is close to overheating?
I hate to change my settings since it works great for the other seven.
in fact, the second ASIC in the same loop shows 85C, but the one in question sometimes bumps to 120C. I tried to limit power to that loop, but it has a limited effect.
Did anyone tried to lower the upper voltage (this would affect all ASICS, so i am kind of hesitant) or lower voltage for one loop successfully to cool down hot outlier ASIC?
Of course, i can just disable this one and boost power to the other seven to get close on hashing, but it would be more drastic.
did anyone also try to clean the machine inside? does this help?

maybe open the miner and inspect the cooler?

the aluminium radiator are barely pushed down on the asics....

if it can be opened a thermal pad on the 1 chip.  but IIRC the heatsink is glued down

We take pride of the quality of our units and service yet even our units have their limit, just like any other electronic device.
Our customer service has RMA several units as I'm sure the forum members can verify, however we cannot cover damages that are caused by improper maintenance.
Our team will continue to work with you as best they can to help you out and will be happy to continue doing so in the future.
Regards, Gadi

Wow!!! What an unbelievable claim. I bought 15 SP20Es and I've been trying for over 2 months to get tech support. All I ever get is the run around from Barbara. I have no reason to believe that tech support even exists at Spondoolies-Tech. I wrote detailed emails explaining what I tried. Barbara keeps telling me I have to open a port and let you Skype me because I have 2 DOA SP20Es that have never booted into the user interface. Just what will letting you snoop around my PC tell you about a network device that cannot be recognized by my network Huh

When the 15 SP20Es arrived 6 of them would not hash. I found a cryptic FAQ called "MY UNIT IS NOT RESPONDING AFTER A FIRMWARE UPGRADE. HOW DO I RECOVER IT?" Even though these 6 SP20Es had never booted into their user interface and were not recognized by my network I gave it a try any way. I had to go to 3 shops to find this microSDcard with reader in the photography section and bought it for $19. I installed the image and managed to get 4 of the SP20Es running, although not fully. E.g., some are missing a board "or something" as the ASIC Stats report says:

After paying for my order I received this email:
Code:
After a successful burn-in test, we are happy to announce that your units were shipped and are now on their way to you.
The units were shipped with Fedex. Please see attached shipping documents.
A lot of work was put into designing, building, and shipping these units. We believe you will enjoy them very much.
If you have any questions feel free to contact us at info@spondoolies-tech.com.

So if this email was true and the 15 SP20Es worked when Spondoolies-Tech shipped them then they are so fragile they degrade and die in transit.
Please explain why SP refuses to RMA or refund (1J3p2htyCPucmJ1pNaCamsmKdZBbLwhBy5) my two (2) DOA SP20Es and what to do about the SP20Es with the dead board "or something". Not to mention the 2.5 months of lost production from 2 SP20Es plus a few partially functioning SP20Es.

Gadi, Why don't you or someone at SP answer me Huh
I have not received one answer to any of my questions or my numerous emails to your company. I provided the PO numbers so you know I'm the one that bought 15 SP20Es directly from SP and have been contacting you for months. It appears you've gone out of business.

Hi Miasma,

The last email correspondence with you that I could find in our system is dated March 31 where Barbara offered to RMA the units but you have not responded.
If you have other tickets open please share them either here or via PM.

I also understand that you were asked multiple times to contact the support team via Skype and were also offered for them to contact you. The tech support team is the only one who can diagnose the unit thoroughly. Were they able to get in touch with you?

Gadi

SpondooliesTech gives BitCoin a bad reputation. Had I paid you with a credit card and you shipped me the two DEAD SP20Es I would have disputed the charge and gotten my money back. But with BitCoin you got paid upfront and just thumb your nose at me. You've ignored me me for months and have never answered a single one of my reasonable questions. You pretend as if there's some way you can diagnose the two DEAD SP20Es via Skype. Why don't you stop lying and tell the truth Huh You do NOT stand behind your warranty. You lied to me and said you did a sucessful burn-in test before you shipped the 15 SP20Es and yet several of them failed to work out of the box. I had to spend hours reinstalling their firmware images. How does that constitute a sucessful burn-in Huh

Depending on what they do there is a lot they can tell via skype/teamviewer.   They can see how the miner reacts, and also they are able to tell you to open it without voiding warranty since they are watching.

I would say give them a chance on Skype, it's far better then paying shipping if they can get them possibly fixed from the Skype session.

Notlist3d, When are you going to repay the money you borrowed from me on BTCjam Huh

I bolded this part in blue , please pm me both notlist3d and Miasma   I want to know the truth about this statement.

thread is locked until this statement is proven true or false.

I opened this since notlist3d wants to speak about this accusation.

I opened this since notlist3d wants to speak about this accusation.

It appears someone used my username of “Notlist3d” at BTCJam.  I am not a member and do not loan or take loans through BTCJam so I was unaware.  After looking at it appears the user on BTCJam that is using my username is - https://btcjam.com/users/43568

I am in no way associated with this account.  As I have mentioned multiple times I am on a farm in the US.  That user mentions from being from Norway.  Also not a picture of me.

I have never asked for a loan at any point on here or other sites.  If anyone here was affected by the BTCJam user I suggest following up with BTCJam.

In the future if anyone sees a “Notlist3d” and think it is me. Feel free to PM me. I also have a BTC address staked in meta that I can sign with.    If you ever need to verify if a “Notlist3d” is me I can do either one of those.  I cannot stop others from using my name at other sites, but I can do those two things to help.

I want to thank philipma1957 for pointing out the accusation.  And giving me time to look into it.

I am leaving the thread open.  I don't delete much from any thread I moderate.

Most often I am deleting  people that curse and are particularly insulting.

A while back This thread has attracted attention from Miasma.  He appears to have an issue with sp-tech.  I let the posts go back and forth for a while hoping to have it resolve on its own.

As it does appear sp-tech did sell gear to him.  It also appears that 1 piece of gear has a issue.  So I let it go on and on and on.  My mistake.

Now that Miasma   has accused a regular member I had to step in.

Look up notlist3d he has been here a while and not caused a problem…..   He lives in the midwest not in Norway.

I myself have a copy villain  on this site.   I will need to say please don't accuse a person in this thread.  Other then me as it is my thread.   So far Miasma has not sent a pm to me explaining why he

called out notlist3d

myself on the left as I am a lefty.  my evil twin on the right. Notice my avatar is a cake .  Most important notice I have 1004 activity level.. Evil twin has 0

yeah a lot of people use this thread for help.  With my summer rates kicking in I don't have much gear but I wanted to keep the thread open for people to use it.

I decided to keep it open and watch it more carefully  for abuse or apparent abuse from forum members.

Hello

I just bought one more SP20 used (No. 3), but I can not come in contact with it.
I have taken psu and network cable from one of the other that works. but it does not appear on myminer.io.

fan running as it should, but after a few minutes flashes the green LED green.

PSU = 2x CX750

Have you looked on your router at connected devices?  See if you can find it there.   If you can that is another way to find it.

If that does not work and you truly cannot find IP.  There is a sd card image to reset.

1. did you try advanced ip scanner 9for PC) or iNET (mac)?
2. give it more time. one of my SP20 took at least 5 min to situate itself on the network.
3. who knows, maybe it is something with myminer.io, but I doubt it.

I tried Angry IP Scanner 3, and does not appear on the network as the two others do.

so I suppose I just try to reset it with a sd card.

Glad the reset worked.    That is the nice thing about having sd card option on reset's.  Really wish all miners had the sd slot on controllers.

Yep, the SD card slot has saved me a few times with various Sponds miners over the months ... shame it looks like we won't any more to play with in the future, but the SP20s I have (being so configurable) still mine away ... albeit small beer money earnings right now.

Yeah I had 11 or 12 of them.  but with summer power jump to 16.9 cents and another 1.1 cents to cool the gear I had to sell them off.

Summer is not fun.  I have hit the cooling myself I need to calculate it all once I am happy.

It's been great as I got more time out of gear then I expected.   Difficulty did not jump as much as I thought it would.  But summer mining has been a challenge even at .095 cents + cooling.  The initial cost of the fan's etc makes it a decent investment.

Winter for me was pretty much set and forget.  With summer I have to watch a little closer, reminds me a little more of GPU day's of babysitting.  Still no where the time I spent resetting GPU's and fixing those problems.   But not set and forget like my winter was.

I too am going to "manage for power" my single SP20. I am at about 540W (measured), that yields about 1080-1095GH. I expect to reduce that down further to less than 500W here in the next 2-3 weeks. I think I may be able to go as low as 450W and still keep it reliable and steady. Right now it's in the lowest level of my house (i.e. the basement), and the noise is completely unobtrusive now (fan at 30).

This is a new experiment for me as I didn't have this much hashrate, or power draw, last summer.

I'll be waiting for that fabled 21e6 "power meter" that produces 200GH at 10W.....  Smiley
