Agreed. I'm making a formal call of shenanigans against Bitmain.

Do not support their transparent price gouging. Additionally, I would recommend miners move off Antpool in favor of any other pool (Except EclipseMC because Fuck Butterfly Labs).

I agree wholeheartedly.

It's a move that clearly shows no respect to the miners.

Yup.  Move off of Antpool if you mine there.

For sure no "consumers" should be supporting Ant and mining there, nor should any of us purchase their hardware anymore after this latest stunt.  I have been wanting looking at the S5 for a while, but now I'm going to spent my money elsewhere.

Hello Bitmain. Do you have any estimation on when an S6 will be available (if made), and the time frame?
I imagine it will be made available for sale sometime in the near future at $949 1 hour later price changed to $995 1 hour later price changed to $1199 1 hour later price changed to $1299.

This just in, due to a phone call they received and some clouds in the sky, price will be $1699.

grand total of 464 btc about 300 units sold

These in about 36 hours  and these have a 20 day wait for shipping.

so 100 sell every 12 hours.  Yeah this works well for those of us with gear in hand.  Diff will stay low for another adjustment period  and maybe coins will get up and over 325 usd.

I do admire anyone buying into a 20-23 day preorder at the current prices.

I will just watch and mine for now. Can't do anything else.

This is btc sales as for cc or bank transfer?

Jeez people are buying these at close to 2 BTC, i guess people still expect bitcoin to go up in the short term ?

are these really that much better than an s4 when you factor in the fact you have to hunt for a PSU ?

Glad I ordered mine within hours, lot less than 2BTC. Anywho, 'hunt for a psu? Should also do that to cover the possibility of the one in the s4(s) dying. So far mine are running fine but:
The IBM DPS 2kw psu is perfect for an s4. My hungriest one reports in as pulling 1450-1500w from the wall...

That same PSU will feed 3 stock s5's cheaply and odds are will last near forever.. Search eBay for them

Nah... you don't need to factor in the hunt (or cost) of PSU - at least not according to Dogie

A PSU is not a mining cost as its not consumed during the process of mining and value stays largely the same.

Left positive feedback for Dogie & now don't feel the same? Remove it here

On that snippit Doggie spot on. I'm still using the same HP server psu's that I used to run my now retired S1's on, now they run the s3's and in 2 of them together, 3 s5's. So yes, it *is* a one time cost but they live on and on through the generations of miners.

woah - a lot of pages to catch up on. The initial price was high enough i didn't jump at it, and the new price is just absurd.

regarding the S3++ being china-only: it makes sense. to ship them overseas is at least twice the KG/hash of the S5

I really want an S6 or better product. Something with a minimum of 4TH in a small package with external PCIe connectors (please balance so <270W/cable at peak)

24" PCI-E cables with 16AWG wires and stripped ends - great for server PSU mods, best prices https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=563461
No longer a wannabe - now an ASIC owner!

What a load of nonsense! Absolute rubbish!
A PSU is a mining cost whichever way you look at it, I mean, they are not free. If you apply the same logic of the PSU not being consumed during mining (and thus not being a mining cost), then the same applies to the mining rig as it is not consumed during mining either.

On the other hand, if the argument is about the rig depreciating in value fast (due to, amongst other things, new more efficient rigs coming on market etc ..) and that the PSU straddles different generations of rigs, that does not negate its cost, it simply reflects the fact that the PSU depreciates over a longer period than a mining rig. Thus the cost that could be attributed to the PSU is the depreciation in the value of the PSU over the period it is used to power the respective rig.

Do you know what the specs of the S3++ are .... aka does it have BM1382 or BM1384 chips and how many? Seems to be a string version with a reported 265W for 450GH/s ....

From only 5 pages back...
Once upon a time the internet was seen as this vast library of reference works to impart knowledge unto all.  Now it seems to be taken over by those unwilling or unable to even search.  Case in point, mental floss on youtube being asked to explain one-way mirrors.  Because a thousand articles and dozens of other videos hadn't already done so...and done a better job at it to boot. /rant
We have done a small batch of S3++ in the domestic market, which employee the string power design on the BM1382 chip.

I wouldn't mind playing with an S3++ sometime. Or an S5 someday when they're priced fairly.

Also, anyone needing PSUs I can probably hook 'em up for reasonable.

Cool, quiet and up to 1TH pod miner, on sale now!

S3++ would make a good case for bitmain to consider shipping just boards .... even upgrade kits for the S1 doorstops still out there!

S5 available 6th April on Amazon for UK buyers for just under to GBP 400 (~ BTC 2 at today's rate), free delivery . Not sure whether that price covers import duty (VAT @ 20%).

Yes because of long useful life a PSU can be consider as depreciating over a longer period of time but - at $20-40usd for the HP 1200w ones and only ~$35 for the IBM 2kw ones their cost is insignificant compared to miner cost.

Only if dirt cheap would I consider going the upgrade kit route again. Did that with 2 of my s1's > s3's and while not exactly hard to do, still a pain in the butt. My time and effort is definitely worth staying with pre-built rigs.

agreed.

20 $ or something like that for a kit of two boards + shipping costs.

That $20-$40 will soon enough turn into $40-$80 to get it all hooked up .... not forgeting these server PSU's can also die on you then its back to the insignificant $20-$40 .... But we digress, insignificant is still a mining cost, considering you won't be making that in a day!
