I was just getting ready to buy 50 S5's. Thanks for raising your price AGAIN BitMain.
I don't think you are the only game in town. Your new pricing is prompting me to look around.
I'll give you a tip my friend .... if you were looking to make your purchase using BTC and have bitcoins stashed away, sell them and make your purchase from bitmain using USD (assuming there is no surcharge for buying in USD). 50 units @ 1.438 = BTC 71.9 50 units @ USD 378 = 18,900 BTC 71.9 @ USD 274.16 = 19,712.10 So you get to keep over $800 (of course, you'll have the shipping et al to add; also depends on the actual rate you can get for your BTC)

Is ~1.4 BTC the price BitMain is usually charging for miners?
I paid my first miner 1.34 BTC in April and the second one was 1.423 BTC, in May. Each was $340.
I've never seen S5s go over 1.5 BTC.
I paid $420 once

The subject line needs to be changed. We are definitely past the $0.319/GH amount with the latest raise in price. With a strong USD and China's market correction and btc price rise, it makes no sense. And the same btc price doesn't hold water or else they would have just listed them in btc instead of $.

Decided to increase frequency just a little bit. All units running good and cool. 50c. On one miner I'm accumulating some HW errors. I've never overclocked and not the usual to do so, so new territory for me. Is having a HW error rate of %.015 to be concerned about? Seems it is the only one complaining. Just curious to see what the different HW error rates are out there.

Can you Screen shot that and post it here with http://imgur.com/ they can tell you better if they can see it . for that a mount of HwE is that one miner or all of them to gather and how long has it been running . HwE are very normal, for the S5 if it goes to 0.1 or higher, there might be a problem there are a few steps you can take to lower them but i would SS it so they can give you better advice .

Received new firmware from Bitmain- thank you. But to test it you need to put your miner into jeopardy and I'm not willing to burn up one of my miners right now. If Bitmain wants to ship me a beat up, old, dusty, used miner to test with I'd be more then happy to test it out completely in a home situation.
You raise a very interesting scenario... Bitmain, if you are selling "brand new" units for $360, can you cut us a deal on your "old used" units for cheaper, provided they function to spec ? The dustier, the cheaper ! For testing purposes... of course... EDIT: THE FUCK !? Just checked the page and they jacked the price of the S5's to $378 USD. Seriously... Fuck you, Bitmain. Your greed is despicable. Only in the world of Bitcoin is something like this considered acceptable. Time to start looking for a new hobby. when the S5 was first released it was $300, the price keeps going up. we need some competition, since it appears that spondoolies is out of the business of selling miners.

He is right ! They always raise the price when the value of bitcoin goes up but when it drops they never lower it !!!!!!!!!!!
You got a point there, but you missed the elephant in the room if you intended to buy with bitcoin. They have held the rate of USD to BTC at an older (lower 1 BTC = USD 262. rate despite the additional $18 increase; google currently states a price of 1BTC = 273 BTC . Truth be told, either way its a ripoff, but they are the ONLY game in town, so we'll have to grin and bear it. The know this that's why they are doing it. come on spoondoolies come out with new chips I am so sick of BITMAIN aka SHITMAIN. F**K THEM even if they are the only game in town I still wont buy from them. There going broke there just milking the cow but there not going to milk me ! I'm not taking up for bitmain but what makes you all think spoondoolies or any other vendor or supplier won't do the same thing that's how it is, they will . IN fact they wil be higher in price. again I'm not taking up for bitmian they just will be . Not that spondoolies is any better, but the fact is spondoolies before running out of hardware they where the ones pushing the prices down, as soon as spondoolies sold out, bitmain raised their prices significantly. If Spondoolies does come back, lets not forget who is the one raising the prices, and who is pushing them down.

Spondoolies had to join the price war with Bitmain because otherwise they had sold simply nothing anymore. And if I remember right, new SP20s were never sold for much less than $0.50/GH. I bet that Spondoolies sold their too complex non-string design already @ $0.50/GH without a margin, just to minimize losses. The only reason they run out of hardware is that they stopped producing it, because it was not profitable anymore. So finally Bitmain killed Spondoolies with $0.31/GH. I guess this is also the main reason for the their merger with Bitcoin Shop. Spondoolies had no money left for the development of their next gen ASIC and a more cost efficient miner.

You should remember to factor in the cost of death with Bitmain gear when comparing to spondoolies and you will see the pricing comparison does not favor Bitmain so much anymore. I lost 9 (yes, 9) S5's out of my farm over a 3 month span. Hell, one fried itself the moment I powered it up. And I'm in a controlled datacenter environment, not outside in a garage or on unstable power. I have 10 SP-3x's. I've needed to power cycle them once over the past 5 months. No dead components, no downtime, no mining time lost to repairs or rma's. Bitmain produces crap hardware, their quality control is worth shit. All you have to do is look at a brand new S4+ I got that has its little (qc passed) sticker on it, but won't power on. It's been 3 weeks now with no running miner while I wait for parts back and forth. What the hell good is $0.31/w gear when it sits idle? I would (over) pay for SPTech gear every day of the week over Bitmain crap, because my time is also worth money. But, I can't because Bitmain is it for now. I buy out of necessity, not want, and certainly not because it's "cheaper", which it's far from in the long run.

I never asked him the price. But it was a quality miner. Full metal case just really a good quality build. I find it sad but I think the high quality build is what partially caused them to lose money. I they would have thrown it in plastic it's hard to tell how much they would have saved.

It's interesting to say the least. The good thing is old gear has kept price up with this. It's been a good time for used S5's, SP20, Avalon 4.1's, etc on holding price. That with low difficulty rise with summer. Until something changes it will be interesting to watch miner prices.

I believe Bitmain's price manipulation was a contributing factor that resulted in SPTech selling their SP20's at a loss.
