I think if you learn the major scale, the minor scale, and the blues scale, you'll quickly find that it's quite easy to fiddle away and make some decent sounding stuff. I think if you least just a tiny amount of music theory stuff will start to click and tunes will start flowing. After the scales you can start memorizing chords and once you can transition between them easily by practicing a lot, you'll sound pretty good.
