This case shows a pattern of premeditated security lapses resulting in significant "losses" to be born by the customers. I cannot see how this is not criminal.

Someone belongs in prison. Want to take a guess who that should be?

It doesn't matter if it is orchestrated or if the party involved were EXTREMELY incompetent, it is still...and have become criminal.

And now the forum is absolutely crawling to a standstill. Are we being slashdotted or something? Or is some basement dwelling fuckup using a DDoS against an innocent messenger?

No, we're being HN'ed lol Check out the top of the front page Wink

This should have been a non-issue because the funds should have been dispersed already, and if they weren't they should have been in a cold wallet, not on MTGOX.  Also the wire transfer has to be a big clue as to what is going on here?  Or at the very least, completely reversible.

This is just negligence all around...  there is no hiding it anymore.  There is no excuses anyone can make.

Going to call the police this time?

That might be dangerous. You call the police and they treat you as a suspect right away. Nahhh better pass on it.  Wink

I'm going to go out on a limb and say this has been the working of cabal group this whole time to scam everyone out of their bitcoins. Just to many things don't add up - a hack there, I used to work on it there, he owns this I don't own that ... anyone else getting the same feeling?

Think about it. genjix takes a very long time to pay people back.. taking time out to write an article bashing bitcoin for the first time ever (a comment to the article even states "i thought Amir was pro-Bitcoin?"). Then as soon as the price jumps to $7.50, oh we had another hacking and 1/3 of the BTC are gone.

higher price is more incentive for _any_ thief.

Do we have a link to the actual transaction(s)?

I've spent some time reading through the rants but couldn't find it.

Cheers.

What about this? I'd like to follow these coins.

Also, what about this "now that Patrick has walked away" thing? It would be nice to know who's there now.

Seriously, this has been the last straw. I am now considering paying these guys a visit to collect my money, and I don't give a fuck if it's an inside job or not.

better do it before they fake their own deaths and buy an island.

Someone ought to figure out where these guys have stashed the funds and liberate those funds.

I'm sorry, but the timing, and convenience make it highly unlikely that members of the "bitcoinica team" are not guilty of theft.

If they have not actually perpetrated this crime, they should be tarred, feathered, and run out on a rail for their gross negligence and incompetence.

They should probably consider themselves lucky no one has spent some of their own coin on "collections services"

Hey TUX! Any chance of getting a MtGox Yubikey free or at least allowing us to use our own? Sad

May I suggest people tuck away their lynch mob mentality for a second and instead try and use some usually a lot more productive rational thought before responding in this thread. Yes the situation is fked up but there's no need to start throwing around various threats of violence.

You all knew there was a counterparty risk involved when you decided to use their service.

Not sure if this has been posted in here yet.

http://blockchain.info/tx-index/11999735

It was pointed out by piuk in another thread.
But it turns out the huge volume is from this transaction http://blockchain.info/tx-index/11999735 which looks suspicously like it could be from the latest Bitcoinica hack. I don't know if the Bitcoinica hacker was using a My Wallet account or just choose to relay the transaction through our server but it is interesting none the less. Btw as far as i'm aware none of these funds were sent through the mixer.

Thanks, that looks like it.

Now my remaining doubt is... who's behind Bitcoinica now? Patrick has walked away according to genjix.
