I think avatar is a very personal space and we're lucky that theymos enabled them, let's not ruin that by using them as an advertisement space.

Some people[1] will probably see that different and try to milk every last satoshi out of their posts.

-snip-
+1 on this. I don't think selling avatars is a good use of your resources as your avatar is one of the last places you can really express yourself on the forum if you are selling your signature.

Plus having a unique avatar means that you will have overall more respect throughout the community which will give more value to our signature space

Yes, avatars are great for recognition. I sometimes catch myself not even checking the name when I see a familiar avatar. This was more solid before the change though. E.g. BadBears old avatar really stood out, his new one not so much. There are also more different avatars and some used like to change them around quite a bit.

-snip-
I honestly don't think it is good for the campaign for someone to wear a say PD logo on the Avatar, BitDice.me on the personal message and DaDice on the signature. That will be pretty weird..
-snip-

I agree, but as I said above some will see this differently. Well, I guess there are other campaigns out there for them. Tongue

New rule coming up:

Wearing a competing Avatar may not be allowed. What is and what is not allowed will be dealt on a case-by-case basis.

It is not allowed especially when it contains the name of the competing site.

I honestly don't think it is good for the campaign for someone to wear a say PD logo on the Avatar, BitDice.me on the personal message and DaDice on the signature. That will be pretty weird..

Personal meesage is okay atm, since it not as intrusive as the avatar campaign. Personal avatars are encouraged.

Besides, avatar is more a personal thing than something to advertise for. I suggest against participating in a campaign that gives something like 0.005BTC a week, in which you may be making some 50 posts or so.   Smiley

But on the other had an avatar is prime real estate for advertisers and people are free to choose whether they want to sell it or not. It arguably may even get more exposure than a signature as it's in a prominent place and can serve as a little billboard so I just think it's another valuable space to rent. I'm sure it's only a matter of time before campaigns utilize or take advantage of it but many will choose not to partake in those campaigns but also many more will.

Well, as long as the Avatar campaign rate is considerably lower than the signature space, considering that the image is not clickable, I would say it is not a very good idea to advertise even there.

Yes, participants are free to choose whether they want it or not. In that case, we have already purchased their space (consider the rates inclusive Grin), but are offering it to upload any image they like as long as it does not conflict with the signature the participants are wearing. Smiley

I would like a cleaner forum (20*3+1 = 61 ads per page  Shocked), and I will simply block if I see more than say 5 people wearing the same avatar in the same thread. If Avatar is advertised, and becomes too intrusive, signatures will lose their importance and sig campaigns won't be effcient anymore.

As long as there is not much competition, I will expect the rates to be lower enough not to compete with signature rates. Wink

Just my opinion. Smiley Cheesy

Edit: This is just my personal opinion. If everyone allows, we can start an avatar campaign with the probably same dadice logo (as dadice requires) for everyone.
Pretty sure adblock downloads will go up in a week. Wink

Billboards and TV adverts aren't clickable but they're still very effective. You can also use the Personal Text and weblink which are directly below the avatar. And why would signature campaigns lose their importance? They'll exist and run together most likely.

The option we got is to have the same avatar for all participants like the other avatar campaign is doing.

If we did that, many would simply use adblock or simply disable the Avatar option..

The question is simple:
Would you like to see the same logo again and again?
I am sure many will be simply annoyed by it. Only the participants will be happy. If we take the interest of the whole community, I think it is a no.

I think all depend on ourself.
Signature campaign already annoying some member on this forum. Avatar campaign will be more annoying  Undecided
But for someone that want to earn some bits, they doesn't care about it  Sad

If you ask me and this is my honest answer : I enjoy my avatar right know  Cool but if some company might rent campaigner's avatar with high enough payrate, I'm will enroll into that company.

Everything is money, but money is not everything.

But the fact is everything need money right now, on my area even I want to make a pee, I need to pay some amount  Cry  Cry

You can apply this very same logic to signatures.

I think Avatar campaign is considerably more intrusive than a signature. Though probably in the initial stage, it will be okay, but I don't think it will be the case in a few months.

I would personally will not have a good opinion about the advertised site, if too many of the members here were the same logo and I see it too often. I will simply end up blocking it.

Whatever be the case, for me, it is linked to the identity of the person more. I won't be participating in any avatar campaign in the future, unless the pay is some 0.001 per post. Wink
The lower the competition, the lower the rate, the cleaner the forum, the better the community. Wink

I think it will be annoying. Just my opinion though. Smiley

I can adapt, just dont change it every other week or do if you want, but I think keeping an avatar for a long time is more beneficial. It helps to recognize a certain account/person. Its only natural that after the introduction there is a phase where people try out different avatars.

Prefer hobbit, it seems more interesting and something I looked at. The phoenix I barely noticed although graphics wise it is quite nice.

I'm not really fussed about having an avatar but am thinking of offering it for potential purchase long term as I don't want to be changing it every month and would rather have something unique I can easily be associated with.

My avatar has changed from a Hobbit to a Phoenix. Smiley

Should I change it back? You will be able to recognise me, right?  Grin

I can adapt, just dont change it every other week or do if you want, but I think keeping an avatar for a long time is more beneficial. It helps to recognize a certain account/person. Its only natural that after the introduction there is a phase where people try out different avatars.

I'm not really fussed about having an avatar but am thinking of offering it for potential purchase long term as I don't want to be changing it every month and would rather have something unique I can easily be associated with.

But until you find a buyer for it, you should at-least add one you like, something that goes with your name maybe?

Btw anyone seen ndnhc?  Grin

lol..  Cheesy

Changed it again. It isn't both. (surprise after a minute)

Phoenix doesn't seem to fit with me. Too proud for me.  Wink

Edit: Fine. lol. Back to the Shire. Smiley

Well that then would contradict me not wanting to be changing it every month. Pointless changing it because people will get used to it.
