2  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Why Lotto Winner Takes Time To Claim Their Rewards, What's The Point? on: May 22, 2024, 05:23:53 PM
I did not get the general content of your post, so I'll just focus on the last questions.

Yes, you should claim your winnings as soon as possible. Anything can happen to a cooperation at anytime and the longer the winnings stay with them it is not yet 'yours' it belongs to the lottery.
3  Economy / Gambling / Re: Is the exclusive stake.com bonus promoted on some sites legit? on: May 22, 2024, 04:57:12 PM
Some websites with good reputation pay the bonus as advertised. Some other ones have hidden T&Cs which you have to go through before claiming it and some just use it as an advertising gimmick. I can safely call those scams if they do not fulfill what they advertised.

If you have an inquiry with stake you should ask in their thread or customer care on their website.

7  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Crypto investment is exhausting for some ? on: May 22, 2024, 05:59:44 AM
This is like saying; "I'm tired of holding on to my wallet and having to protect it, let me hand it over to someone else who I find trustworthy and not worry about that problem again, of course he can steal what I have inside and it can also be stolen from him but then I have someone to blame it on"

Keeping your coins yourself doesn't require constant vigilance, I have seedphrases written down and stored in secured places, and I don't have to check them daily or weekly, just every once in a while and then I check every 6 months orba year that the backup phrase is accurate. If you have a watchonly wallet your job is much easier.

The consequence of trust is far greater than any minor inconvenience.
8  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: What percentage is good enough for Bitcoin improvements proposals? on: May 22, 2024, 05:51:18 AM
1.Could anyone help me identify between the BIP that have been approved by the community and those that are just proposed.
2. I also see 80-20%, 70-30% as a good percentage of those who agree to those who do not. Can't the new upgrades be implemented even with such percentages?.
3.Since BIP requires about 95% support from miners before it's implementation, does the decision of the 95% override those who are against?.
1. To attain the status of a bip it means that it has been approved and implemented to an extent already. Proposals do not get called Bips with a number attached to them. Different wallets use different bips to run their system.

2. Yes it can though User activated soft forks, if it already has over 51% community support.

3. That's the overwhelming majority already. Note that there are also different kind of Bips like consensus, RPCs and peer services and not all require consensus rule.
9  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gambling and Religion. Beliefs or Choices? on: May 21, 2024, 03:20:55 AM
However, people still gamble for various reasons.
We can assume that the people who still gamble are not from the religion that prohibits it or if they are they are not very religious. In reality too, almost every religion is averse to gambling, Islam is the only one I know that expressly prohibits any form of riba which will include gambling and also investing in Bitcoin, but Christianity is not welcoming of gambling either or any other religion for that matter.

I do not expect anyone to openly here discuss how they participate in something that is expressly prohibited by their religion.
10  Economy / Exchanges / Re: Will the CZ event affect the price of BNB? on: May 20, 2024, 10:45:16 AM
The court decision has already been made and CZ was sentenced to 4 months in jail. He has also since stepped back from management of the affairs of Binance and a new CEO has been appointed. There has been some fallout, especially in the US. Some states have refused to renew binance licence to operate within their jurisdiction.

BNB has ridden the wave well. It didn't go down much or at all. Binance have done a good job of dissociating themselves from the entire fiasco and the users really don't care who gets indicted, they already trust too much spaces in these centralized exchanges.

12  Other / Meta / Re: Links in Signatures and Posts bad for SEO of a website? on: May 16, 2024, 07:20:10 AM
This is the only rule against link shorteners, and it shouldn't affect their signature;
Code:
No link shorteners that require users to view an ad

I also don't think Google indexes links in signature from this forum so it doesn't matter really. I've never made a search outside the forum for a brand and was redirected to a post on this forum containing the link in the signature of a user. You can do more research about that. Best of luck.
13  Other / Meta / Re: Links in Signatures and Posts bad for SEO of a website? on: May 16, 2024, 06:50:03 AM
How I see it, having links in signature allows the company to easily track how much traffic they are getting from the forum and accurately appraise the marketing strategy.

Without links, users who see and like the project have to go to search it out and can come across result from competitors too, but with a link you're sure they'll be led straight to the landing page.

From the example they gave, they are assuming links will show up like hyperlinked messages at the bottom of each comment. Like fitting it into a comment that it's not relevant in. But they actually show up differently as we on bitcointalk know. That's the miscommunication you should try to fix, signatures to them are unique identifiers users end each comment with, but not here.
14  Economy / Services / Re: [CLOSED] BestChange Signature Campaign | Sr Member+ on: May 15, 2024, 10:56:25 AM
This is some sad news, I've been a part of the green family for 197 weeks now and have enjoyed every moment I wore the signature. Thank you to the BestChange company and the manager, it was a pleasure working with you, and I'll be looking forward to a return to the forum at some point in the future.

Best regards,

15  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: As newbies we should know the significant risk in trading on: May 14, 2024, 06:26:42 PM
How about not trading at all as a newbie.

Trading has been marketed as a way to make income remotely with a few success stories used as motivation for others, but those who lose from it far exceed those who make a net profit. If you've never had an interest in trading markets and trading currencies do not jump into it simply cause you have a laptop and can consume information about how to analyze charts.

Look for less risky means of earning that are available and follow proper investment guidelines
16  Bitcoin / Hardware / Re: Which miner? on: May 14, 2024, 04:07:10 PM
If your focus is on hashrate ASICs should be the best option over GPUs, you can had to Amazon and compare prices there. <$1500 will be a huge steal and to be profitable you'll need at least 6 or 7 of them.

With no electricity cost the potential profit margin is positive if you can manage the rig properly.

Any reason why you're prioritizing higher hashrate over efficiency? You need the machines to work long enough for you to break even and profit.

One of the best and most knowledgeable members of the forum with many years of experience. His advertisement will be a asset to any project that partners with Charles-Tim.

Highly recommend.
18  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: How do I trace a transaction history of a person in the blockchain? on: May 14, 2024, 01:51:26 PM
While following the tips to trace the transaction the sender should also think up how they sent it to the wrong address. It's possible that the device has been hacked and infected with a clipboard hijacker. Do a scan on the device and if anything comes up sweep all funds to a new address created on a different device and reset your device.

Take precautions to not make the mistake again, that's more important than tracing lost coins.
19  Economy / Reputation / Re: Merit earned by Nigerian Members here in Bitcointalk on: May 14, 2024, 08:40:30 AM
Did you also notice that most Nigerian members here in Bitcointalk earn merit very quickly compared to other local members who have been on Bitcointalk for a long time and have quality posts but still struggle to rank up because they can't earn merit?
Post your comparison, preferably in a chart so it'll be easy to read. Then next you'll need to understand that a gap (if there is any) does not mean one is abusing the system, there is the option that there are not enough merits circulating in other boards/threads.
If your board is low on merits report to the admin that you want a designated merit source. The Nigerian board didn't even have one until few days ago.

Are there cases in the Nigerian community of merit abuse? I'm not being racist here, just an observation. How do they manage to earn merits like that?
This is not an observation but an accusation with no evidence to back it up.

Firstly op why didn't you post this with your main account instead of using an alt?
One is free to make a controversial post using a alt account. But it further shows that this was not a genuine inquiry but a way to cast aspersions.
20  Other / Meta / Re: Warning against consecutive posts (SMF patch) on: May 13, 2024, 09:59:28 PM
This could guide those writing ban appeals on how to present their cases.
I do not mind this. 99% of ban appeals do not get accepted anyway and same percentage of bans are for plagiarism, the ban punishment on spam is loosely enforced and malicious link bans are not common.
When you narrow it down to plagiarism and sharing malwares, any user doing this knows exactly what they are doing and do not need pointers nor do they need to appeal.

We just just have the one unique situation every once in a long while when a user gets wrongly banned and needs clarification to direct their appeal. This can be handled on a case by case basis.
