641  Other / Meta / Re: Forum Search Do Not Work - Only Old Results - Admin Complete Fail And Sleep on: October 13, 2023, 03:46:32 AM
this thread is good enough to be set as a sticky because a ton of people do not know how to search here correctly.
Or if that doesn't work, https://Ninjastic.space or https://loyce.club can be added to the list of forum search engines on the search page. This will bring it to more users that are not aware of the thread.
642  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Bitcoin Lightning Network Growth 1.212% in the last 2 years on: October 13, 2023, 03:35:34 AM
Some people use a decimal point '.' to represent a thousandth place, but it is not so common and you cannot use that for sums like percentage AFAIK.

Readers see 1% and what comes after the decimal place, but the real figure is 1,212% as can be seen on the image you shared.

That said, the growth of the LN is massive and shows promise that it can take huge load off on chain transactions in the future to keep fees at a reasonable amount.
643  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: how many halvings have you witnessed? on: October 13, 2023, 03:31:37 AM
I am yet to witness any halving and the purported bull run that accompanies it. This is the reason for this topic. I want to ask people that have witnessed many halvings if there has been a halving that was not accompanied by a bull run.
You do not need to witness a halving to know if it was accompanied by a bullrun or not. It's easy to know the years we have had halvings, there's one coming up next year 2024, so we must have had one four years before in 2020 (cause 210,000 blocks comes averagely every 4 years), then we had another in 2016 and 2012.

We have had three halvings in total, 2012, 2016, and 2020, now check for the periods of bullruns through the charts;
• In 2013, after the first halving, Bitcoin hit an ATH of ~$1000 and did not go past that again until after 2016.
• In 2017, Bitcoin rose to another ATH of ~$20,000 and did not go past that again until after 2020,
• In 2021, Bitcoin hit a new ATH of $67,000 and has not gone past that since then.

This means that ever halving has been accompanied by a bullrun so far.

<snip> Now that many people are aware of the upcoming halving and may likely not enter the market the wrong time, whose ignorance will push the price up. Or is the reduction of miners reward able to do it alone?
Relatively, there is still a lot of people who are not aware of when the halving occurs or even why it is significant. There are also many people not aware of Bitcoin, so will millions billions yet to enter the market.
Even without an increase in demand, a reduction in supply influx is enough to cause an increase in price, increasing supply against demand.

Let's count the Russian-speaking users who have gained after a pause an interest in cricket!
So, I start first:
1) TakeitEasy
Your turn  Grin Grin
Could have been a period of personal discovery during the pause and they discovered they had an interest in previously odd sports  Roll Eyes

But what I was trying to say was that we should not be quick to give out tags until there is irrefutable evidence to suggest that the account has really changed hands, I wasn't focusing on just his case but all forum cases in general related to account changing hands.
645  Other / Meta / Re: Huge site outage! on: October 12, 2023, 07:45:14 PM
In my opinion this is a serious issue, and even the administrators here are not aware of the main reason and why it took longer this time. I'm wondering if the problem is related to Cloudflare or the hosting servers, and I believe the hosting company can provide an answer for this error and suggest ways to prevent it.
The hosting company will not be providing an answer to what caused the downtime or ways to prevent it.
It is impossible to have a website or app with zero downtimes, but when it last as long as 2-3 hours then it is a problem that you will not want to repeat itself.

Hopefully the update on the server end will be able to fix whatever issues that caused the downtime.
646  Other / Meta / Re: Motion to give BADecker a special designation on: October 11, 2023, 07:17:49 AM
How about a totally (not so) new badge without legendary in it; "ignore"

This comes with extra perks;
• You can give out the badge yourself at will, and
• It blocks the trolls from showing up on our screen.
647  Economy / Reputation / Re: "TakeItEasy" Probably Changed hands/Bought/Hacked on: October 10, 2023, 09:12:53 PM
I am of the opinion that someone who buys an account deserves red tags but I will not be in a hurry to leave one to his profile.
And you shouldn't be in a hurry, unless it's proven beyond reasonable doubt that the user behind the account has really changed. A post gap and slight change in boards frequented is not solid proof of that.
648  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone inscribed the War Logs of Wikileaks into BTC on: October 10, 2023, 08:57:05 PM
I am aware of the plagiarism rule, my confusion was about military news which I have shared. But I guess it's not a problem.
There's no rule against that. As long as it's publicly available information and you're not doxxing anyone.
649  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Someone inscribed the War Logs of Wikileaks into BTC on: October 10, 2023, 08:43:19 PM
Do you think BTC is being used for good purposes or not?
No one can control how people use Bitcoin. It's their Bitcoin and they use it they way they seem fit. It is just a means of transferring data from on address to another and registers that into an immutable blockchain. The intent of the sender is not taking into account.

Disclaimer* I don't know, if I broke any rule of the forum by sharing the news, if I did, then please correct me by suggestions.
You can't break a rule by sharing a news. The only way you can break a forum rule when posting a thread is if you plagiarize or post malwares.
650  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: 100% of Bitcoin Pre-mimed In the first block- 21m in circulation. on: October 10, 2023, 05:36:16 AM
Is all of Bitcoin pre-mimed?
Premined means the coin was created and distributed to a small group prior to the launch of the project. This obviously did not happen with Bitcoin.
No one (Satoshi included) can access bitcoins that are not yet in circulation.
651  Other / Meta / Re: How many people use Tor to access TalkImg? on: October 10, 2023, 05:29:11 AM
Could you do this survey on the website? I feel that will be more effective to get users that frequently use the website and give you a faster response.
You can create a pop up which asks visitors if they are accessing it through Tor or not.

The only way I can resolve this issue will be to upgrade the server again, which would allow me to make other types of configurations. But, that would mean almost tripling your monthly server costs. This type of upgrade is only expected to occur within 3-5 years, when the project is actually on a much larger scale.
I will not advice on this so early in the project. Anyone using Tor for the forum already knows how inconvenient it can be and will understand why same happens on talkimg. Tripling the service cost so early can be to demanding causing the budget to be higher tham donations available.
652  Other / Off-topic / Re: Youtube alternative supports BTC donations - FreeTube on: October 09, 2023, 07:56:46 PM
- Subscriptions can be made without account, for following channels and new videos, live shows, shorts.
This is the standout feature for me. I forget most of the time that I'm not registered and try to like videos and subscribe but always get a warning message that I have to create and account on Google before doing that, so I can't follow channels that I will like to.
653  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What is a "cryptographic vulnerability or weakness in the Bitcoin protocol"? on: October 09, 2023, 11:06:25 AM
One of the many would be the 2010 Overflow bug. This happened in August 2010, when an attacker created a transaction that generated 184 billion bitcoins and sent it to two accounts, meanwhile, there are only 21 million bitcoins available.
This first came to my mind when I read the op. I know I had read of it somewhere many years ago, but did not remember the exact details of it, not nearly enough to allow me search for what happens.
Here's a link I found on it with the info you provided.

Another would be the transaction malleability issues in February 2014, the 51k attack, and the quantum computing threat
As much as I know, the transaction malleability issue was MT Gox looking for a way to escape culpability for the bitcoins stolen from their wallet.
The other two are not vulnerabilities at all, so should not be mentioned here to avoid misinterpretation.
654  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: What to know about Bitcoin Halving on: October 09, 2023, 10:49:56 AM
Because I believe this answer would clear a lot of newbies and some that don't know about what would happen to Bitcoin during or after halving. I really hope this helps so many people
During the halving the protocol changes reducing the amount of Bitcoin being pushed into circulation by half for the next 210,000 blocks before it will be cut in half again. Bitcoin does not change, it just functions as it was designed to. It is the market that changes.

No one knows what will happen to the market after the halving. Using past events we all expect a price increase within 1-2 years of the halving. There is no guarantee of this or to what extent the increase can be, but there's a strong possibility it will happen due to market forces of demand and supply coming into play.

The analogy the author fails to factor in that all other bitcoins produced are still in circulation (those not lost yet) forming the supply. And he gave price expectations going as high as $270k. Newbies lick up predictions like this and go into fomo mode.
655  Other / Meta / Re: bitcoin discussion board have lot of unecessary questions on: October 09, 2023, 10:06:57 AM
<snip>
which is mostly a waste of time for good posters.
Then don't waste your time on those threads. If those threads do not get enough traction the will slip from the top page of the board very quickly. But we always have users who reply to them, maybe cause quality is subjective and those threads are not spam to them, or any way to fulfil their post requirements counts.

If you feel it's spam, report it.

most users post low quality replies to get post count for signature campaign, and the other users start threads like these because many members award them merits,
I will not say many members award then merits. To my observation threads like that do not get merited.

show my request is stop replying to them if it's not an important discussion.
You can it control what other users reply to. You can ignore those discussions so you don't have to read them.
656  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Why won't the US government give up? on: October 08, 2023, 08:43:15 PM
what is the reason why countries are still going for CBDC when they speak of regulating bitcoin?
They can influence people to use it plus it gives them more control over how people interact with the financial institution.
Countrues can use incentives to encourage their citizens to use it, or make it compulsory for some services that are vital.

Why do the US government give up their pursuit to control bitcoin after over a decade because bitcoin is Decentralise and no one can have total control over it so won't they just give up on their pursuit?
Bitcoin is decentralized but can be indirectly controlled if we use it through centralized platforms
The more people who use custodian wallets to store their bitcoins the more indirect control they give governments over it.
657  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Exchange that offer depositing bitcoin from segwit address? on: October 08, 2023, 08:30:40 PM
Are you limiting your search to CEX or you are also looking for decentralized exchanges?
658  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Is it important to check addresses for AML before doing transactions with it? on: October 08, 2023, 08:28:33 PM
So again the question: Is it important to check addresses for AML before doing transactions with it?
It is important to check if you plan to trade with centralized exchange. If you also plan to use a CEX you should also be cautious when using a mixer service cause they are flagged by some exchanges.

Obviously if we don’t have any plan to cashout that balance we don’t care much about AML checks.
You should also not worry about it if you plan to trade with a decentralized, P2P exchange.
659  Other / Meta / Re: Does deleting our own posts harms our acccount ? on: October 08, 2023, 06:54:21 PM
Anyhow I want to know that if we delete our posts ourselves, does it have a bad effect on our account and can we still get tagged or something or it is completely normal ?
If you delete posts at intervals with reasons such as duplicate posting or it being a wrong information, it's not an issue. Pretty much everyone does that as well.

Deleting at a much higher rate regularly, or deleting all of the posts you have made will raise a few eye brows. Not enough to get a tag (negative), but enough for users to avoid replying to your comments cause you commonly delete replies you've made and break the flow of discussions. You will get on some ignore lists and get some neutral feedbacks too.

What will we the rest of the world do with a new conflict?

How will we be affected?
The same way other conflicts has been dealt with, very poorly but those who interfere and complete ignorance to those unaffected by it.

This will not affect global trade and I will assume it will not make headlines for a long period of time.
