141  Other / Meta / Re: Adjustments to Merit calculation on: April 01, 2024, 04:09:56 AM
Boo you all who have the prank away from the first page. It would have been fun to see members struggling to read as much as possible to get yeir merits up. They'll have also been scared to post and lose some of those merits. Would have been the first time some did some actual reading (or maybe just jumping from page to page).
142  Other / Meta / Re: Unofficial list of (official) Bitcointalk.org rules, guidelines, FAQ on: March 31, 2024, 08:39:36 PM
I assumed that for a newbie within 14 days and 14 posts can give a total of 14 activities likewise for 28 days and if the post count passes 30 within 30 days then the activity will be delayed till another 14 days making it a total of 42 activity go
You have the concept right but you're overthinking it.

You can earn a total of 14 activity points in 14 days, you don't need to wait for the 14 days to get up to 14 activity, just to go past it (15+)
Same thing, during the next 14 days, you can get up to 28 activity,
After that the next cap is set at 42. You don't have to wait for the 14 days to get 30.

30 activities in 30 days us very doable.
143  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Genesis block reward 1A1zP1eP5QGefi2DMPTfTL5SLmv7DivfNa on: March 31, 2024, 07:55:03 PM
That address is believed to be owned by Satoshi and those 50BTC gotten from mining the Genesis block are by design not spendable, only the other bitcoins sent after can be spent.

There could be a couple of reasons why people send bitcoins to that wallet, maybe to appreciate Satoshi or as a means to lock up some bitcoins since it's unlikely that wallet will ever go active.
144  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: People who mined bitcoins between 2009 to 2012 on: March 31, 2024, 04:25:06 PM
Anyone who kept Bitcoin from 2009-12 till now and have hundreds of bitcoins will want to keep that as quiet as possible, so there's no real way to get to know their stories except they share them.
Those who lost their bitcoins will also not want to go public with how they sold too early.

If you dig hard enough you'll get a handful of stories, but that will just be individual stories.

Why would you be interested in what private people are doing with their lives?
145  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: How do Darknet TOR etc. BTC crypto exchanges get known? on: March 31, 2024, 01:00:20 PM
Can you elaborate on what you mean by darknet exchanges? There are centralized and decentralized exchanges that operate in the crypto space, both are very legal and operate in the open. Only difference is one is regulated by the government and the other is not.

Bumping my application
147  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Technical Support / Re: prefork coins on: March 30, 2024, 09:27:31 PM
There's a cloned version of electrum specifically for Bitcoin cash. It's called electron cash.

You can import your seedphrase there after safely downloading the wallet and access your BCH coins. I'll advise you first Moe your Bitcoins to a separate wallet before importing, just to keep them extra safe.
148  Economy / Economics / Re: How is it that these actions are yielding opposite results? on: March 30, 2024, 09:18:31 PM
My best guess is he needs time. Argentina have suffered decades of terrible leadership applying equally terrible fiscal policies which kept the economy of the country constantly on the decline. Corruption and insecurity have also plagued the country over time. A government no matter how good cannot automatically fix decades of decay in 3 or so months.

We can truly start judging him when the numbers for Q1 and 2 of 2024 start coming in, but even then, the optimism should be kept controlled.
149  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: BTCtalk and shitcoins (tokens) on: March 30, 2024, 09:10:00 PM
You can lock the thread now you've gotten your answer. Look in the bottom left of this page, you'll see the option to lock the topic.

If you have anything to add in the future, you can unlock the thread at anytime.
150  Economy / Reputation / Re: DT1 and DT2 members who have negative feedback (or are banned) on: March 30, 2024, 07:44:13 PM
Looking at the actual list with theymos being the first name, it's not a bad bunch to be among at all.
151  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Craig Wright Satoshi Claim Case Update on: March 30, 2024, 07:31:40 PM
I lost track of this case for some weeks. Great that CSW has been ruled against and assets frozen. It was about time someone really took him serious, his constant statements undermined Bitcoin and for how ridiculous they were, some actually believed it.

I can only hope this is the last we heard of him.
152  Other / Meta / Re: What do you think if Bitcointalk accepted videos? on: March 30, 2024, 02:39:48 AM
Before adding a new feature, I would imagine the admins check for the demand on that feature through users exploring other more difficult routes to achieve the same result. With videos, I don't see an obvious demand for it, I've hardly ever had to embed a video into a post I was making and also come across posts containing custom links to videos sparingly.

Without much real users, if an easy to use feature is added, it would be abused, necessitating the need for stricter moderation, adding to the workload of the mods.

It would be a cool feature to have but I'll vote No on it, cause of the obvious drawbacks and that it doesn't improve communication on the forum.
153  Economy / Web Wallets / Re: swindled by bitamp of my funds on: March 30, 2024, 02:28:02 AM
Do you always access you wallet through For it tried it for the first time?
Check your address on a block explorer first to see the total balance and any outgoing transaction.

Going forward you should use a more reputable wallet to hold your bitcoins, like electrum.
154  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Tokenization of the Blockchain Space (Market for blockchain space) on: March 29, 2024, 04:57:47 AM
<snip>
You still are over complicating a simple process.

Bitcoin does not need another mempool, and you're creating problems out of thin air which you expect this to solve, but it will rather create more problems.

I highly doubt Bitcoin will ever be associated with 'tokens.'
155  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Is 51% Attack possible on: March 29, 2024, 04:51:21 AM
Bitcoin was very susceptible to a 51% attack in the very early days when there were so few miners, but the incentive to earn 50BTC in reward per block was more attractive than whatever gain they could make during a short-lived attack on the network. Same thing today, some of the top mining companies can collude and attack the network, but the incentive of 6.25BTC per each confirmed block is higher than what they can gain from attacking the network.

The system is supposed to constantly make the reward for being an honest miner higher than trying to attack it.
156  Bitcoin / Wallet software / Re: What needs to be improved or added to your preferred BTC Wallet? on: March 29, 2024, 04:43:38 AM
I personally use Electrum and its mobile app is terrible, and far from intuitive. Windows app looks like an old application from Windows XP times.
Electrum mobile has improved well over the past two years. Previously the Gap in features between the mobile and desktop version was very wide, but that gap has closed down significantly
For the retro look on the desktop version, it seems fitting with other things like the forum and Bitcoin core as well.
157  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos I need a larger sMerit quota on: March 29, 2024, 04:38:03 AM
I followed that topic for a while, and got the impression most users only join to earn Merit. It would have been much better if they actually care about running Bitcoin Core, but I highly doubt it.
I guess that's the concept of it all, using merit as an incentive to get users to do something that contributes to them and the community. Many of those users would have gained knowledge about running a node which they never would have bothered to get before. I also saw some inquiry post on some other board from a user asking for more clarity, that's what the concept ains to do.
There's no way to actually quantify "care."

I didn't read all recent posts, but I haven't seen a single user who actually used Bitcoin Core as a wallet instead of only completing the block download.
If they already have wallets they are using that works fine and have no need for a extra wallet at this time how possible would it be to start using a different wallet? That is also not the criteria for caring about bitcoin core. There are other good wallets out there that one can use.

One of the reasons I followed that topic, was because I hoped I could dump some Merit there. But it didn't feel right. I'd say lower the Merit amounts there, most of the posts aren't worth reading.
I will say we shouldn't be over critical of a contest, or try to suggest what others do with their smerits.
158  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: The identity of the bitcoin founder. on: March 28, 2024, 06:16:02 PM
Satoshi is anonymous by choice. We can speculate all we want, but cannot give an exact reason as to why they will rather stay in the shadows. I see it as a representation of what Bitcoin is; truly decentralized, with not a single link to a Central point of control. For all we know anyone here could be Satoshi and everyone is to an extent.

If your friend needs the presence of an owner to seek freedom through bitcoin, then maybe its not for them.
159  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Tokenization of the Blockchain Space (Market for blockchain space) on: March 28, 2024, 06:00:37 PM
You forgot a very important part, of what benefit will this be to the Bitcoin network? Your suggestion overcomplicates a very simple system as many crypto projects tend to do.

There are also so many flaws in this, starting with the idea of each miner selling vbytes on their candidate block, only one miner gets to actually confirm a block each ~10 minutes, the other miners do not have anything to sell, and users already pay for the space, hence the phrase; sats/vbyte. That's all the tokenization we need.
160  Other / Meta / Re: Theymos I need a larger sMerit quota on: March 27, 2024, 06:50:31 PM
Theymos, while you're at it increasing merit allocations, it will be nice if you get along to adding new merit sources. My application is already a couple of years old, along with the applications of some other members.

It will be a good halving gift for the fam.
