181  Other / Beginners & Help / Re: Seeking Community Insights: Building a Community Around a Blockchain Project on: March 20, 2024, 07:41:05 PM
1. How do you successfully build a community around a blockchain project without revealing too much prematurely before building a strong enough community?
You can't do that. A community is a group that believes in a project and trusts what it can become giving enough time and support, if they don't really know what the project is about, they cannot trust and build it.
What you can do is build anticipation for your project.

2. What steps have worked for you in fostering engagement and attracting early supporters?
Be creative.
There are thousands of similar projects looking to build a community, you need to make yours stand out. Identify where your target audience are, catch their atention and find a way to keep it.

3. When is the right time to start engaging with the community? Should it be during development or closer to launch?
During development ideally.

4. How can I establish trust within the community while maintaining security?
Both are not mutually exclusive. You maintain trust by being transparent with your community members and having an actual product which offers value.

5. What communication channels (besides Bitcointalk) have you found effective for community engagement?

Is your project affiliated with this thread: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=5489652.0

If you want actual presence on the forum, you'll need to put in more effort than this.
183  Other / Meta / Re: Should speculation about satoshi's identity be subject to doxxing rules? on: March 20, 2024, 12:30:42 PM
Well, if I say that I think Satoshi is the mathematician XPTO (a person already famous or well-known in the world), I'm not doxxing.

We must understand that doxxing involves disclosing personal private information, such as a person's address, phone number, financial information, or other real data. Speculating about someone's true identity is not doxxing as long as it does not involve disclosing private personal information.
There are varying definitions of doxxing. Some define it as linking real life information to an anonymous online personality. As an example;
• the address of Mr. Thomas is 124 wallet street, this is a public information on their community register.
• hooded hacker is a online personality who doesn't post any personal information online,
• a link is made between Me. Thomas and hooded hacker and everyone now knows where "hooded hacker" lives, even those who do not like his anonymous work.

Is it prohibited to ask and try to find who Satoshi is?
No, it's not.
What is prohibited or should be, is trying to unearth personal information about satoshi which they did not make public.
184  Other / Meta / Re: Only Bitcoin related posts are allowed in Local Languages Section? on: March 20, 2024, 12:20:07 PM
I think that if this isn't solved, it's probably a good time to talk about adding a board that's appropriate for the deleted posts so everyone's happy.
Keeping up with multiple discussions on one thread is hard enough, doing that across two different threads will be very difficult and discussions cannot be moved across from one thread to another, meaning they will need to be deleted.

I personally believe that if a local thread has gotten to a point where there is a puzzle if one thread can fit in everything, then it's a good time to start considering giving that community a local board.
185  Other / Meta / Re: Only Bitcoin related posts are allowed in Local Languages Section? on: March 19, 2024, 09:22:52 PM
I'm with the Pakistani local board on this. When you have just a local thread to discuss everything about cryptocurrency, both local and international news, then one would need the freedom to discuss multiple topics on that thread, including off topic content as well, cause there is no where else to do that.
186  Economy / Speculation / Re: Contest: Predict the exact possible bitcoin price for 22-3-24 and win merits on: March 19, 2024, 09:15:45 PM
I usually don't know what to do with short term price predictions. It's always far more difficult to guess where Bitcoin would be within the next 24 hours than withing 6 months to a year.

I'll take the date in the topic title, cause it is the only one that can apply and predict a Bitcoin price of $63,456.
187  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and it's holders in our society on: March 19, 2024, 08:48:50 PM
People who live in places with better conditions are fortunate to be part of the rise of BTC in the modern world.
That rise is very instrumental in developing countries as well. In numerous situations having the opportunity to transact under the radar when the government wants to restrict other means of sending money gives individuals an escape route and it is an alternative to the local currencies which are mostly suffering from inflation.

However, at the end of the day, all countries are thc same when it comes down to the need to control the flow of money. Canada recently sanctioned wallets due to a protest.
188  Economy / Economics / Re: Bitcoin and it's holders in our society on: March 19, 2024, 08:25:01 PM
I have not seen a situation whereby government attack traders in nigeria, theirs one popular Nigerian bitcoin trader called blord,  government have tried to severally to arrest B.lord and they could not arrest him
That is a popular case which got lots of attention and the individual in this case was able to afford a very good legal team. Many individuals who have been harrased by the authorities for their involvement in crypto related activities never actually made it to the internet.
189  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Can you and I benefit? on: March 18, 2024, 07:38:50 PM
The forum has a currency exchange child board.

There are decentralized exchanges with P2P options and centralized exchanges as well. If those urls are blocked, some exchanges have telegram groups for P2P exchanges.
190  Other / Meta / Re: Bitcoin price update modification on homepage on: March 18, 2024, 07:24:59 PM
For this to even count for search engines, we would need threads talking specifically about the price, with "Bitcoin price" scattered all around. But even that would not be able to compete with the number of coin trackers and exchanges which pop up when someone asks about the price, along with Google's default price tracker.

Adding this would not directly help the forum and I don't think it would directly help the users. There are already a lot of ways to check the price and the forum would not want to encourage the over speculation on the Bitcoin price.
191  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: The severing of international Internet cables. on: March 18, 2024, 12:28:57 PM
Lightening network is not an alternative to internet connection needed for communication between servers.

Wireless radio signals like LoRa could be a alternative solution down the road, as I'm sure similar networks would be launched with time.
192  Bitcoin / Legal / Re: How do I find out if a coin is tainted? Are there lists? Or services that check. on: March 18, 2024, 08:05:11 AM
I don’t want people dumping tainted coins on him.
What describes "tainted" coins to you?

If it's coins that have been mixed or coinjoined in the past then you can use chain analysis tools which are available. Researching on how mixers work, identifying their addresses directly and recording them can help your filtering.

If you're looking out for coins that have been involved in illegal activities, then you'll have to do the same by looking out for addresses that have been blacklisted to belong to scammers along with the UTXOs and block them.
193  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Will bitcoin become a payment option? Was the initial design of bitcoin tobe paym on: March 18, 2024, 07:53:04 AM
When will bitcoin become widely accepted as a payment option in real life?
Some would argue it already is widely accepted as a payment option. It is used in multiple countries both online and offline and is the legal tender of at least 1 country at this time. In the short time it has existed, that's a lot of progress.
If you're asking when it would compete with VISA, PayPal and other payment options, no one can say for sure when that will happen.

Was the initial design of bitcoin intended for use as a form of payment?
Yes.

The Bitcoin whitepaper starts off describing Bitcoin as;
"A purely peer-to-peer version of electronic cash [which] would allow online payments to be sent directly from one party to another without going through a financial institution".

What aspects contribute to making bitcoin a viable payment option? I know that currently, bitcoin is seen more as an investment rather than a means of payment. Is that correct?
• Scalability is the most important factor a viable payment option should have. Second on the list will be price volatility.
• Yes, bitcoins are speculated on more than they are used for payments.
194  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Tether Seems like Sound money on: March 17, 2024, 07:46:13 PM
The path to financial freedom comes first we need to get rid of the debt based economy so the real way Will be USDT backed by digital gold the btc and other digital currencies.
USDT cannot be backed by Bitcoin or it losses the status of being a stable coin. It will also be unnecessary to use a coin which is backed by Bitcoin when you can simply buy Bitcoin.

As it is, Bitcoin cannot effectively replace fiat globally just yet and any country who wants to adopt it will be using it as an alternative currency and not the staple one.

USDT is best money out there right now because they backing up with btc reserves.
You can't at any point in time vouch for the status of the reserves, it's mostly a game of trusting a centralized system.
195  Other / Meta / Re: How to handle a non sense Red trust by "trusted" member? on: March 17, 2024, 04:15:47 PM
Beyond the signatures campaign (I don't think someone can be taken seriously such stuff on my profile...) I would like to understand how to manage such a thing.
Its not funny See +xx as trust record and a -1 like this Smiley
It doesn't matter much, especially when overwhelmingly the account has way more positive trusts than negative.
The second reason is that if someone whose feedback counts is giving out wrong ratings, their feedback would not count for much longer. I can't see a negative rating on your profile now.

thats why I am asking suggestion on the issue.
If reaching out to the user is unproductive, simply remove them from your trust list and forget about it.
196  Other / Meta / Re: Poll: Colored Text Usage in Forum Posts on: March 17, 2024, 11:21:00 AM
Let us take your signature as an example, and I want to reiterate that I am in no way against signatures and signature campaigns.
Why do you think are so many colors in the signatures?
Signatures are graphic designs just like avatars and should carry the colours of the brand they are advertising. Factoids in signatures do not randomly alternate color scheme and neither should texts in a thread.

Do you like colored text in forum posts?
How do you believe the use of colored text enhances or detracts from the forum experience?
Should the forum continue to offer text formatting options, including colors, for posts?
• If used properly it can make a post easier to read. When abused like you do, it's like a toddlers color book
• The way you use it detracts.
• The forum has multiple text features. I can make a word this big. Doesn't mean I should make my threads using that size of text.

Instead of looking for reasons to justify your abuse of the color format code, look to make corrections based on what is generally acceptable.
197  Bitcoin / Development & Technical Discussion / Re: Security of signing a message? on: March 17, 2024, 07:54:37 AM
They're asking me to sign a message using the sign/verify function.  Is there any inherent danger to using this function with a trezor wallet?
No, there is no inherent danger in this that they can steal your coins. It's just a way of proving that you indeed have ownership of the Bitcoin wallet's private keys, and allows others to verify that information without giving them any more access.
There is even a thread on the forum for users to sign messages with addresses that have been posted by an account to prove they own the address and account - https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=996318.0

You didn't give us more information, so we cannot know if the other party should be knowing exactly how much bitcoins you have and the reason for the need to sign a message.

I found a couple threads online about how people are being scammed by asking to sign messages although it seems like the details are a bit different.
These were cases of users being sent a raw transaction which was created with the public key of the address and they verified it, effectively signing that transaction and sending the coins/tokens out of it.

If they ask me to sign a message with a transaction hash is that inherently dangerous?
Is signing a message with just today's date dangerous?
If they send you a transaction hash, DO NOT SIGN IT.
You do not need anyone to send you anything when signing a message or a txid.
198  Bitcoin / Mining / Re: How important is BTC hodl for a mining company? on: March 17, 2024, 07:42:50 AM
A mining companies first goal is to have a profitable business and keep that running for as long as possible. There is the cost of production that goes into keeping a mining rig functional and that should come from the profits of the business.

Should a mining company focus on increasing a stack of Bitcoin that they can display in public as a way to showcase ability to save in BTC and as well as show confidence in trusting BTC as a way to keep your treassury by hodling it instead of cash
Mining companies can keep their cash flow in Bitcoin and some do since they were Bitcoin enthusiasts and believe in its potential for appreciation which was what influenced their decision to start mining. This is not a display to the public, just a business investment and some other mining companies can have a different model of operation.
199  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm curious about your thoughts on when Bitcoin might hit $1,000,000 on: March 16, 2024, 04:54:16 PM
But the question is how much market capitalization does bitcoin need to arrive at a price of $1,000,000., is it quite possible? and can it exceed the market capitalization of gold?.
You can simply multiply 1,000,000 by the current supply or more accurately, what the supply would be in the next ten years or thereabouts,, that should be approximately $20 trillion. It is a possible number for the top performing cryptocurrency and yes it would exceed the market cap of gold, although I don't see why there is a comparison at all between gold and Bitcoin.

although I want bitcoin to touch that price, but for 2025 I think it is unrealistic.
I wasn't suggesting we get there by 2025.
200  Economy / Speculation / Re: I'm curious about your thoughts on when Bitcoin might hit $1,000,000 on: March 16, 2024, 03:29:13 PM
To get to $1,000,000 we need about a 1400% increase or a 14Χ rise from the current price. Putting it into numbers shows how realistic a target 1 million is within the next decade or so.

By the end of this cycle we could be up to $120-140k and that will halve the gap for the market to multiply to a million, so by the end of 2025 we will be well on the way to a million.
