I honestly don't see the point in sacking Jose just to go with Solskjaer. Do they really think he's going to do any better and turn the club around by the end of the season? They should have just let him play out the Champions League at least and see how far he could have got them there. I don't think they've got a chance and probably won't get past PSG but they should at least given him that. I doubt Solskjaer will last very long either. They'll probably keep him till the end of the season unless he does something miraculous then hope a big manager like Zidane can be enticed with a fresh start.
102  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: November 21, 2018, 02:50:14 PM
^  The problem is who's replacing him?  I don't think Zidane is a good option (IMHO), Poch is not gonna be available (I think).  And apart from those two, there's Luis Enrique, Conte and Leonardo Jardim (this one I particularly like if rebuilding is the plan).

Pochettino isn't going to go to Manchester United. Why would he do that? There was speculation about him leaving for Real Madrid but I don't see why he would jump ship to Real when he's doing so well with Spurs. He's built them up into a team that has a real chance of winning the Premier League at some point and maybe they'll even have a chance at the Champions League eventually. Winning anything with Spurs would be a far bigger achievement than doing anything with United or Real and I think he should stay there. United should just stick with Jose too. I'm sure they'd take Zidane if he was available but I don't think he would do any better either. I wonder if Jose would ever go back to Real if he was let go? They're doing pretty poorly so I'm sure they'll be looking out for a new manager.

I believe the match between Tottenham and Manchester City will be exciting to watch, but the odds payout on Manchester City to win the match in full time is relatively low, even though Manchester City still did not lose any games in the English Premier League this season, Tottenham are still a strong team with high quality players in the team, it is not worth to take the risk to stake my money on Manchester City, I guess I will skip betting on this match and just enjoy the football action by both of these teams.

I thought it was quite boring. Fell asleep during it. The pitch was in a terrible state. They should have postponed the match until they've sorted the pitch. It was like a sunday league pitch in some parts.

^  It's not like the Spurs are an easy club to beat.  They have one of the best squads in the EPL imo...

Anyway something tells me that Mou will be back at Real next season and his first player acquisition will be...  *Drum roll* ...  Eden Hazard.  Hazard did say he wanted to work with Mou again.  Wink

If he can't do much at United then I don't think he'll be able to do much at Real either. I'm not sure Hazzard would want to go there now given their current standing. I think Real could be in big trouble if they don't turn things around soon. Imagine if they didn't even qualify for the champions league this year.

One of the best first-11s for sure, but their bench is one of the worst in the Big 6 (I'm looking through Reds-tinted glasses, of course).

Agreed, and I think that's why teams like City and Chelsea do so well because they have a bench of mostly world class subs they can bring on at any point. If a team like Spurs were to lose Kane through injury or suspension then they'd be screwed. Hopefully they'll be looking to strengthen their squad in the next transfer window.

Gunners defence is weak, Liverpool attack is finding form, Arsenal are weak in midfield. Fabinho is starting to look like a monster in the CM for Liverpool.

Arsenal 1-3 Liverpool

I think it'll be closer. Could even see a tie but I think Liverpool will pip it by a goal. Arsenal have been playing pretty decent so far, and it was a shame about that late equalizer the conceded against Palace.

EPL: Arsenal vs Liverpool 0-1
EPL: Wolves vs Tottenham 0-1
La Liga: Real Sociedad vs Sevilla 0-1
Bundesliga: Hertha BSC vs RB Leipzig 0-1
Bundesliga: Wolfsburg vs Borussia Dortmund 0-1
Serie A: Fiorentina vs AS Roma 0-1

Trying something different and going for all away 1-0 wins. The away teams all seem to be the strongest this week and draws are too hard to predict though I expect a couple (& also of course some home wins). Hopefully I'll get at least one correct score right this week however  lol.

105  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Kremlinbots on: October 22, 2018, 10:07:59 AM

So I wonder is any kremlinbots being caught here at bitcointalk or nobody cares?

Twitter is a huge worldwide platform where public opinion can be swayed. Why would Russia waste time with their bot armies on a bitcoin forum? Without evidence it's probably not even worth postulating.

IRA in action.

They're here too, not just twitter.

What makes you so sure? Somehow I doubt they're on every message board on the internet. They'll go where they can have the biggest impact and to places where they can influence the masses such as social media platforms like Twitter and Facebook.

I don't think that these kremlin bots are rooting for any particular side, it seems as if they're just trying to make the American electorate divided over so many issues

I disagree. I think they will always have an agenda. Clearly they wanted Trump in for whatever reason. Maybe not for anything specific other than being disruptive, but something tells me they did have a specific motive with this last presidential election.
106  Other / Off-topic / Re: How to gain weight? on: October 22, 2018, 10:02:32 AM
I'm seriously underweight right now at the age of 21. I'm unable to increase my diet, and still wish to get 1-2 inches increase in height and gain more weight.

Any tips?

You can't grow height once you're an adult. If how tall you are is something you're insecure about then you should wear shoes with a higher heel or something, but height is only something you will care about and nobody else so try work on your confidence which is a much better fix for this. Why are you not able to actually increase your diet? Is that something to do with medically or can you just not afford to eat more?  Anyone can work out just by using their own body weight and that's something you should be doing if you want to get bigger, but you will also need to up your protein intake a little but without knowing why you can't eat more I probably can't give you any more specific advice.
107  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: October 05, 2018, 11:46:01 AM
Suuure he did...  But I'm pretty sure Zidane would love to get the United job.  If he really isn't go after it, then he should prolly tell his reps to quit talking to United and accept Juventus' offer.  I think they want him as CEO or something...  That's a huge step up imo.

What job could he possibly be holding out for? If any manager gets offered the United job they should take the honor as there's not many other bigger teams and he's already managed Real. The only thing he may be concerned about is his own reputation. It's much easier coming in at the start of the season where you can build your own squad, buy the players you want and bond with the current squad. At the moment he has to turn around an under-performing United and that won't be easy and what happens if they finish badly at the end. Will he then be disgraced and people calling for his sacking?

Why would Zidane be any better than Mourinho for United? Zidane had peak Ronaldo during his Real tenure, peak Bale, Ramos, Modric, Benzema, Varane, Marcelo too.

He probably wont be, but he's probably the only option they have right now without getting someone arguably worse than Mou or who is seen as a step-down. No point firing Jose to get someone who's not even as good as him. New managers rarely come in and turn the team around straight away though either. When teams are playing poorly or not to expectations they just need a fall guy and someone to blame for the issues and the managers are put on the chopping block as it's easy to blame one person than the entire team. I don't think Jose is doing anything tactically inept. Sure, there are always different formations and tactics to try, but he's won plenty of titles before playing essentially the same or similar way.
108  Economy / Games and rounds / Re: [CLOSED] 🔥⚽🏆 Cloudbet's EPL Predictor Competition! 🏆⚽🔥 on: October 03, 2018, 03:07:28 PM
Glad the tournament should be starting again. I enjoyed it and I honestly didn't expect to win anything.

While on the subject of prizes - a few of the free spin bundles that people won last time went unclaimed, are there other kinds of casino bonuses you would prefer to play for? Or are physical prizes like Nano ledgers, tablets, etc more of a draw?
Honestly, I haven't understood how I can claim a prize. Physical prizes is a good choice but it can be cryptocurrencies also.
10 weeks is fine for me. More chances to win...

Physical prizes are cool and all, but I think a lot of people here are big on privacy and don't like giving their real world details out and especially their home addresses, though I guess you could offer a physical prize or the bitcoin equivalent and they can choose what they personally prefer. I like the idea of free credits, but I prefer free bets that can be placed on anything like sports rather than just free spins. The bookmaker I use I only bet with them because they give you a free bet every week as long as you wager a certain amount but they also have some great enhanced odds on certain sport accumulators. Maybe some people didn't claim their spins because they didn't have an account with you yet as well and was just taking part for the fun here. To get people betting I think it would be good to offer certain bonuses if they place an actual bet on site or something but maybe not give them bonus points here as that would be a huge unfair advantage, though I get why you would want to do that. Maybe you could do a prize draw for people who actual bet their predictions as well. The more you bet the more tickets you could get.
109  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 28, 2018, 11:01:29 AM
I think Liverpool are the better team on paper, but we've got to take into consideration home advantage.

Salah, Mane and Firmino just haven't "clicked" yet like they did at the end of last season. Yes, Liverpool are winning their games, but it's not the constant amazing attacks and 3-0, 4-0 wins we were seeing at the end of last season. On the other hand, Chelsea seem to finally be favoring Giroud over Morata, and the link up between Giroud and Hazard has been fantastic in the last few games.

This game could easily go either way.

They're not yet at the level of Messi, Suarez and Neymar was, but you don't need to be slaughtering teams 3/4-0 every week especially if you're getting the results which is all that matters.

I'd stay away from backing a winner in this game but maybe go with both teams to score, though maybe they will end up being quite evenly matched so there ends up being little or even no goals. I think there will be goals though, or at least I hope. It'll be the only game I watch from this weekend.

^  Even if the Zidane rumor was true, I don't think it's gonna be the right move.  They need to swallow the bitter pill and realize that it's gonna be hard years ahead and rebuild.

But if they really wanted their success to continue post Fergie, then they shouldn't have made Moyes as SAF's replacement (then LVG after him)...  In hindsight, they should have gone for Pep (after his hear long sabbatical) and only Pep imo.

I think the Zidane rumor is just speculation from excited fans and there's no real truth to it. I'm not saying it won't happen but I don't think Mourinho is anywhere close to done at United and I can't see them getting rid of him during this season. Maybe if they finish in a terrible place at the end of the season he'll go but unless they have a catastrophic losing streak I think he'll be here to see the league out.

Slightly off topic but does anyone have a Cloudbet account? I won Cloudbet's Premier League competition of 0.05 but don't have any account. Proof: https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?topic=4809890.msg45138805#msg45138805

If you have an account and are trusted enough I'll let you keep a bit as a fee if you send me the rest. Just PM me if you've already got an account there and we'll work something out.

^  It's not gonna be that boring if you place some bets on these kinds matches.  Grin

That’s what I do when it looks like a boring day of football with no supposedly exciting games on. Have a couple of bets & suddenly when there’s money involved it’s a whole lot more exciting Grin

Exactly! Me and my friends do this a lot, just between ourselves. Stupid odds like who will yellow card first, which manager will smile first on tv, or just whicever team wins. Prize can be something even so small not a dollar's worth even, or a free drink or free bought meal. But even 1 cent I think makes it so much more fun to watch and we do this when our teams are not playing. Football is great like this, and satoshis lost and won are all just part of the big pleasure.

Some people enjoy this and I have so,me friends the same, but I don't care for it unless the odds are high  Cheesy. I only get a buzz if I win big so I stick to higher odds betting .

^  It's not gonna be that boring if you place some bets on these kinds matches.  Grin

Well sometimes I'd rather be bored than lose money lol.

^  It's hard to see that West Ham could pull off what they did tho.  They were off to a terrible start and a quick turn around like that, away and vs Everton wasn't likely to happen.  But it's nice to see Pellegrini get some points tho.  I'd hate to see him leave the EPL.

Exactly. I would have never thought West Ham would get a win here and by that scoreline too. I wonder if they'll turn over Chelsea this weekend?  Cheesy I doubt it.
111  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread (EPL) on: September 16, 2018, 01:42:25 PM
Adama Traore on the Wolves bench (again).  Sad  That's pretty disappointing considering how he got on as sub and changed the game vs the Hammers two weeks ago...

This game couldn't get any more boring. Bore draw just after half time. Wouldn't be surprised if there's no goals at all.

Can't see the Everton/West Ham game being much different either. Everton have drawn three out of their four games and West Ham have lost all of theirs, but maybe Everton will get a win here especially considering West Ham have got quite a few injury problems.

Bring on the Champions League Midweek I say  Grin.

I don't think bitcoin or any crypto is perfect, but my main quarrel with 1referee is him saying that eth has no other value other than being a speculative asset. If that's true then the same applies to bitcoin (except it doesn't have smart contracts so speculation would all it also would be worth for). Take away the speculators from bitcoin and the value would be worth a lot less than it is now and arguable near to collapse.

If you put the two coins up against each other it would be easier to say Bitcoin is more 'perfect' than ETH. It just works for anyone in a way ETH doesn't and can't, partly because of the extra functionality. Even the developers themselves say it's not designed to be a form of money.

I think in general far fewer people can wrap their heads around what ETH represents, or care, and does so it does attract more speculators, and more clueless ones. That's pretty moot though as everything is given life by speculators.

I would choose bitcoin over ethereum any day of the week, and btc is better as a currency for numerous reasons (though obviously not perfect), but eth has different functions (mainly smart contracts as I said), but I also think a lot of people do - or did - just get involved with it because they saw it as the second best thing to bitcoin and missed out on getting in early with btc so they're trying their luck with eth in the hopes that someday it will bring them riches. I just had issue with the argument that eth's only use is as a speculative asset when I don't think that's true, and especially when I think it's speculation that is driving the majority of the entire cyrpto market right now, but that doesn't mean to say you can't be both a speculator and purveyor of the tech either as many people are.

so flippening was just fappening and can soon be real rippening for Vitalik's creation

Week 5 has ended!
Hello everyone, payments for week 5 have been sent in this transaction . Definitely have enough for another week.

The devs have asked me to make this rule change. Instead of being able to do a maximum of 30 posts a week, the limit has been reduced to 20 posts. Any posts that exceed this limit won't be paid for.

Questions are welcome!

New applications all denied..

Thanks, Zapo, payment received as always at the scheduled date.

Slap in the face this new rule for us. We can do nothing only accept it but is hard to understand why such a decision when we take into consideration that so many members didn't fulfill max requirement last week and all weeks before?

The only explanation which comes to my mind is that they are not happy with the results of this campaign. Despite that Zapo did everything he can to choose only high-quality posters and check all posts manually for spam. Zapo is doing a great job because I see IOU signatures in all important threads on BTT lately.

Agreed. Zapo is doing great but this is a bit disappointing but all we can do is accept the terms. Would it not be better to just get rid of some of the slots from the lower ranks that haven't even been filled yet?
114  Bitcoin / Bitcoin Discussion / Re: Time to discuss next halving? on: September 13, 2018, 05:48:41 PM
What's to discuss? Bit early for speculation on this in my opinion. Are things really that slow in the bitcoin world that we've got to look for something that isn't happening for nearly two years? I think there's far more important events potentially happening in the meantime like the various ETFs

There is maximum number of people who are interested in bitcoin and they are practically getting into the market when the market was not this popular it faced a huge up and when it is this much popular we can just assume what is coming.

What the hell does this have to do with anything?

Hi. I saw this orange warning message in the users profile below:

This user recently woke up from a long period of inactivity.

https://bitcointalk.org/index.php?action=profile;u=271877

I have two questions just out of interest:

1 How long does someone have to be inactive for that message to be shown.
2 How long is it shown for.

Apologies if these have been asked and answered before. I did a search but couldn't find anything. Will lock the thread once I get an answer.

@Sutters Mill,

You are desperately trying to discredit Bitcoin and praise other altcoins as if they are anything special. Perhaps you're on the wrong part of the forum man.

No, I'm really not at all. You're desperately trying to paint all alts as bad whilst ignoring the facts and you'll even be dishonest to do this. I'm actually just being realistic and stating truths but you're obviously blinded by your own fanboyism of bitcoin and dislike of alts.

Bitcoin a horrible store of value?

Values as per the 10th of September 2017;

Bitcoin $4083
Ethereum $281
XRP $0.20
BCash $515

Values as per today;

Bitcoin $6250
Ethereum $170
XRP $0.25
BCash $420

What you have done is called cherry picking. I can do that also:

Bitcoin value December 17th 2017: $19,783
Bitcoin value today: $6200

Bitcoin value July 28th 2018: $8151
Bitcoin value today: $6200

That's not a store of value.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Store_of_value

Quote
Insofar as an investment is speculative, it should not be considered a store of value because it lacks stability. An asset should only be considered a store of value if it is stable against future purchasing power.

Bitcoin is a speculative asset. Something that loses such drastic value in the space of hours is not a good store of wealth as much as you and anyone else wants it to be.

It's not Bitcoin's fault that people buy in at peak levels. Blame people for that.

You're right, it's not bitcoin's fault it's a terrible store of value, but it is. You can blame people for that all you want, but I'd love to hear how you can work out how to buy in at peak levels or not. You can't, especially when it can lose hundreds within the matter of hours and that is why it's not a good store of value and is a speculative asset.

I don't think this is true at all. You can't discount smart contracts as that is where its value lies. Surely you could just as easily say speculation is all bitcoin has as well. You might as well say take away bitcoin's mechanism as payment system and what do you have left? Well bitcoin being a payment system is pretty much its bread and butter much like smart contracts is to eth.

Bitcoin has one job - being Bitcoin. That involves being hard to stop, hard to control, impossible to corrupt and letting anyone who fancies join in. To fulfill that all it has to do is be sendable and receivable in a timely manner.

I completely agree.

ETH is trying to do too much and it can't cope enough to do any of it well. It's not foolproof, it's not immutable and its contracts often have not been secure. By an objective measure it's failed to do its job so far.

It might pull it back and improve. I think the more likely outcome is that the Fisher Price of smart contract projects will come along and ejaculate up its arse until it drowns in its successor's sperm from the inside out. That's if anyone figures out what smart contracts are truly for.

Its prime problem has been ICOs. I wonder where it would be if they hadn't come along. Smaller but stronger most likely.

I don't think bitcoin or any crypto is perfect, but my main quarrel with 1referee is him saying that eth has no other value other than being a speculative asset. Perhaps you need to open your eyes. Did you ever attempt to use Ethereum?

Yes. What is the problem with it and what exactly should I open my eyes to?

And take away Bitcoin's payment system? Why would anyone discard an aspect of Bitcoin that's actually being used?

Because you said all Eth was nothing but a speculative tool, which is incorrect. The exact same is more true of bitcoin, but eth has the added value of things like smart contracts. Bitcoin just has the brand name and fanatics and hypebois behind it hoping that one day it will actually recover to become profitable for them.

Bitcoin is the reserve currency of the whole crypto industry.

Any other currency could become the 'reserve' currency. Bitcoin is currently only more popular because it was the first. The big issue with bitcoin is that a lot of its value is based on speculative hype which relies on new blood to prop it up but once they panic and drop out the bubble quickly bursts.

It's actually being used as means of exchange.

So is practically every other coin including eth.

It's being used as store of value.

Bitcoin is currently a terrible store of value. It lost over $10k within months. That's not something to boast about.

Bitcoin is the sole reason altcoins have an indication of value at all. If Bitcoin wasn't used as benchmark, Ethereum and all other coins would be valued at least 75% below their latest exchange rate.

That's pure speculation, but if bitcoin tanked to zero there would be another coin that would replace it. Bitcoin offers nothing else that any other coin can't and is one of the reasons why bitcoin is very risky to me. There's no good reason why bitcoin can't lose market dominance very quickly and be usurped by a new or even existing coin, especially if it has more benefits than just a speculative asset.
118  Bitcoin / Press / Re: [2018-09-12] Bitcoin Dominance Eyes 60% as Ethereum Price Flounders on: September 12, 2018, 01:03:50 PM
Ethereum's drastic fall recently is quite surprising to me as ETH actually seems to be one of the coins with at least something behind it with smart contracts etc. Does anyone know if there's any accepted reasons why it's fallen so much? Haven't really seen any bad news that could have caused it so I'm quite baffled by this drop.

Ethereum has nothing other than speculation to back it.

Probably EOS. I still much prefer ethereum though, and I think most people who are jumping on board EOS are just doing so because they see it as a coin with the potential to become the next ETH and hope to get rich quick from it.
120  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: All alt coin become shit coins. on: September 12, 2018, 12:54:47 PM
Since Bitcoin holding in good position but alt coins are bleeding everyday. It's look all alt coins become shit coins. I will not surprised if alt coin price become below ICO price. Lol. I was wrong that alt coins holding more profits from Bitcoin. I have more than 50% loss on alt coins. Although I am not going to sale in loss even I have to hold more than years. But I don't think so market will recover soon. There is too much negetive news about crypto currency. And it's already effects on alt coins.

However current situation but I think this is good time to invest on crypto currency. But invest only whatever you can afford loss.

An alt coin is only a shitcoin if it offers absolutely nothing new at all and there's no obvious need or benefit of it. For instance, I think the majority of alt coins or tokens are in fact shitcoins, but I wouldn't say ethereum is one because it obviously has usefull features that bitcoin doesn't. I still see that as the second 'best' alt coin despite the battering it's taken in value recently.
