101  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Colored coins on separate blockchain? on: July 03, 2015, 12:42:49 PM
I believe I saw something about Opal implementing Coloured Coins.

And then NXT has it's own very advanced decentralised asset exchange and monetary system.

Hey Stan, I think at this point you guys might be able to use the line "Safer Than a Greek Bank Acccount" with out any controversy. Tongue

104  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt and the rise to the top. on: June 28, 2015, 01:42:29 PM
This thread is a joke right?
Its so funny it should be stickied.
NXT was a scam and stil is.
all the coins went to less then 30 people.. that's a scam

must be a pretty good elaborate scam i gotta say since its been going for almost 2 years. they just keep on cranking out code every month. im not sure what to think.

Bernard Madoff's scam went on for decades before he was investigated and put behind bars.  Duration of operation or an individual's profit does not mean something is not a scam. "I made money on it so it couldn't had been a scam" is something that is frequently parroted on here and not a correct conclusion.  There's plenty of people who made profit off Madoff's scam and other scams or illegal activity.

NXT's distribution where the two Eastern European co-founders took the majority, Jeff Garzik's review on the code, numerous thefts in the ecosystem which were probably the result of backdoors and the plethora of ponzi schemes based on half-completed projects on the asset exchange.  Verdict:  It's a scam.

Very well said and I couldn't agree more.

Unlike BTC which user base is lot less what we would like it to be, but still, slowly but surely it is growing and at least it is used in real world applications such as shopping, porn, gambling, this 100% premined digital rubbish NXT is used by absolutely no one in the real world. NXT is a pure P&D trading asset without any real world applications except that existing users try to convince naive new users to buy in by promising/projecting/implying a nice return on "investment". It's a strange combination of a ponzi and fraudulent investment scheme, but whichever angle we see it is a scam.

Not surprisingly, the biggest swindler of the landscape is jl777 James, the shining star of this shamble with his vaporware Supernet - again with zero real world applications and not related with any real world use cases whatsoever. The jl777 upgraded scam scheme fits well into the NXT scam.

And of course, the bagholders of NXT attack all critics. After all, these wankers try to lure new investors into this nonsense for a few BTC "profit" and threads like this spoil the money collecting party.

You should join the SuperNET slack and help beta test some parts of SuperNET like InstantDEX. Or if you're a coder, review the massive amount of code that's already been written for it(50k+ lines? not that LoC indicate much on their own).

Or just download the SuperNET wallet and use it yourself. No need to use NXT specifically if you don't want to.

I find your post pretty weird because my experience so far looking at NXT and SuperNET is pretty much the exact opposite of how you lay it out.
105  Economy / Collectibles / Re: 1st Edition Supernet Coins - Silver/Antique/Gold on: June 27, 2015, 05:24:08 PM
Thank you for the link. Interesting reading. Nice to see decentralized exhange, this is much needed.
The physical coin has 7 altcoins, but supernet has 10 altcoin, how is that?
I also don't understand where NXT fits in, NXT is on the coin, but not on the Supernet?

Other currencies get added over time. When he had these made those were the members. Maybe he can mint new updated ones every year or something and people can collect them.

NXT is a part of SuperNET, yeah. It's the backbone of it too.
106  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Overstock investing in altcoins- Take your guess which ones? on: June 27, 2015, 05:59:22 AM
Just by reading the headline I can guess that the loss is from them accepting Bitcoin (not buying Altcoins)

@OP
Did you know the online retailer Overstock accepts Bitcoin on their web site as a form of payment for merchandise ?
Where did you get the idea that the web site owners are investing in Altcoins ?

No, they specifically mention losses from investing in altcoins.

That article is from 2014

Yes, because the loss the reported from investing in altcoins would have been from the last fiscal year I assume.
107  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: ★ [GMC] GameCredits - MANDATORY UPDATE • A Multi-Platform Gaming Currency [GMC]★ on: June 27, 2015, 05:52:37 AM
Hey!

I got something to say.

It's better to burn out, than fade away....

Ok, enough Def Leppard, but it was appropriate. A bit of a strategy rant follows, for those of you who trade on exchanges.

Sellers. You determine the price. Since some of you are dumpers, LISTEN THE HELL UP!

Behind the scenes (as y'all have seen a glimpse of in the past few days), we are working hard to make this coin the different one. The one that goes mainstream. So to be honest, I, personally, am not all that concerned with current exchange price. But I'm irritated that certain people (you know who you are, and frankly, I don't) are willing to just toss the coin in the street. On the one side, this increases my stash. But on the other side, it's creating a negative perception. "Jones will dump the coin like a hot rock, there must be something wrong with it!"

Hell no, there ain't nothin' wrong with it. We busted our balls to make sure there's nothing wrong with it. And as y'all can see, the value is up, significatly. In my arrogant opinion, it still has a long way to go. Our FOCUS is to make THIS coin the one that is used on games that are sold in Walmart. You think a token like that is worth less than 500 satoshis? Personally, I think that 5 THOUSAND is unreasonably low.

So. Sellers, you control the market. You think Buyers do, but they don't. If they want the coin, they'll meet your price. Sure, the day trader who only looks at the last ten minute's numbers isn't going to play right, but so what? This is a long term project.

Strategy, boys. Strategy. If everyone who held GMC put their lowest sell order at 1500 sats AND HELD FAST, it would go way over that in one day. then you set the floor at 2k. And onward. It's the basics of real economics. If it's more valuable to you than what the buyer is offering, YOU HAVE THE WRONG BUYER. It's an exchange. It's largely anonymous. Just hold your cards. This is high stakes poker, and poker is NOT a game of chance.

I have already seen the "miner's have to pay electric bills" mantra. One, it's scrypt. Small potatoes, the damn things don't generate a big bill. Second, and far more importantly, don't you think you could pay those bills BETTER with the coin 3-4 times more valuable than it is today? I can't tell you how to act, of course, but I'd make the power company wait a couple days. The late fee would be FAR exceeded by the raise in price. And that was a modest goal I suggested. For the most part, My GMC are not for sale. At any price. but I do have a bit that I caught when idiots threw it away, and you'll not get it off me for less than 2K sats. If everyone took that attitude, where do you think it's value would set in a week?

EDIT. I changed my mind. 2K is far too low. Changed my orders to 5K, and there they will sit.

We are also on POLO and I see GRC is at a nice entry point to buy and HOLD..I will be looking to personally purchase some GRC for our QBK coin asset fund for long term appreciation and HOLD..I will also try grab a bag for myself too..   Smiley.. The gaming Industry is huge and with such hard working Devs this coin can only be a good investment long term..

GMC(GameCredits) not GRC(Gridcoin). Smiley

108  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Overstock investing in altcoins- Take your guess which ones? on: June 26, 2015, 08:10:47 PM
Probably the few legit ones like NXT.

Yeah someone who runs a professional multinational  is going to buy a bunch of coins from two anonymous Eastern European Gopnik Bros, who put backdoors in the code (see bitcoin developer Jeff Garzik on NxT).  Also all the numerous thefts and ponzis that occur in the NXT ecosystem.   Overstock may as well be buying bridges in Somalia.

Last thing Overstock is going to do is buy scam shit like NxT, Aurora and PayCoin.

Quote
Now, in a new interview with CoinDesk, CEO Patrick Byrne has opened up about how Overstock may be seeking to further develop its plans for promoting decentralisation in the global financial market.

The Utah-based e-commerce giant launched a new open-source wiki page on its website on 29th July. Entitled 'How to issue a cryptosecurity', the page provides a broad overview of the topic, and lists the pros and cons of the various major players in the marketplace including Counterparty, Ethereum and NXT. The offerings all allow users to trade securities person to person, without a centralised mediator such as a stock exchange.

Nice try.

109  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: June 26, 2015, 08:23:20 AM
I just found out about Bitmarks, on Poloniex.  Kinda fun getting "marked" in the troll box.  Someone even gave me 1000 "marks".  Sure nice of them, that's for sure... I'm getting "pinker" by the day! :-D

My question is, if Bitmarks is a PoS coin or PoW coin?  Are there other places where you can earn/win Marks?

Read that the dev, Mark... is now homeless?  If so, don't stand on a street corner, in this kinda heat!  It will kill you.  Have enough pride in yourself to actually DO something for financial requests.  Washing car windows/windshields or helping with groceries (loading into a vehicle) is a way to get someone (including me), to offer you a few dollars.

If Jesus is all you have
You have all you need!

Amen!

Bitmark is PoW using scrypt.

At the moment I don't think there is another place using marks, but we had them in our slack and IRC channels not too long ago.

Mark mentioned that he's been busy earning money trying to take care of his family, so hopefully he can get them and himself sorted out and then be able to put some time in to finishing some marking related things at some point soon. Smiley
110  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: June 25, 2015, 06:16:14 PM
I'd be very careful buying before any code is uploaded to git.

Anything new here?

No, but we're going to be combining efforts with people working on GameCredits(GMC) to get the multi-user wallet app that's needed for marking. Both projects need the same thing to build off of so it makes sense to combine resources in this case.

If Mark decides to upload his own version, that would be great too. But we don't intend to rely on a single developer any longer, instead it's probably better just to push it forward and try to get things built piece by piece if need be. Mark is still in contact via email with some community members, but he is dealing with his own issues and hasn't been on slack or anything recently.
111  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Nxt and the rise to the top. on: June 25, 2015, 06:08:15 PM
Java is the defacto standard for large corporations and has been for many years. It's the most widely used programming language in the world currently: http://www.tiobe.com/index.php/content/paperinfo/tpci/index.html

Java and C switch places sometimes, but they are both quite far ahead of any other language.

There's nothing inherently wrong with using Java, especially for large projects that need to be run on many different types of machines.

If we could convince shapeshift.io to add us that could really help us as well.

If BBR was added to shapeshift.io how could that help us? Just curious.

People who want privacy would have another option besides XMR.

Maybe we should have an International Socialist Crypto Union (ISCU) website for networking?  Pretty much any project committed to the advancement of people, human rights, workplace relations, gender recognition, race relations and equality of opportunity should be free to join.

Sounds like you have a UtopianFuture in mind...

You do know it started at $5 right?  Who cares if the reason was NXT got devalued, nobody off Bitcointalk has even heard of it anyway.  People price in $Fiat for a reason.

Bitcoin got devalued too you know. In November it was almost back around $400.
116  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Which SuperNET dev is behind CryptoCircuits? on: June 16, 2015, 08:34:26 PM
What does it take to be considered a 'SuperNET dev'?

There are like almost 800 people in the SuperNET slack and dozens of developers working on a variety of different projects.

If you mean someone like jl777 or someone else who works full time++ on the client and related things, I doubt any of those people would have the time to launch a new crypto project.

My initial guess here is that this is just an attempt at marketing.
117  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Altcoin Discussion / Re: Will Monero have to rebrand because of the cease and desist notification? on: June 14, 2015, 07:22:09 AM
What would they even do? File a lawsuit against who exactly? The devs? Are the devs even responsible for the name of a decentralised system?
118  Alternate cryptocurrencies / Announcements (Altcoins) / Re: Bitmark on: June 09, 2015, 08:25:28 AM
It's not dead, people are still around. Mark is currently in a bad situation but is getting it sorted out now. Medic and Neleonele are in contact with him frequently, probably on a daily basis.

The multi user wallet app is supposed to be done or be very close to being done. I'm not sure exactly.

This is all really vague, and doesn't answer any of my questions.

1. Why don't we have any updates that were supposed to come out 5 weeks ago?
2. What is the next expected update?
3. When can we expect the next update?
4. Is anyone working on Marking?
5. Can we get regular updates on what is happening?

No it's not vague ... Mark is homeless at the moment, ... do you think he gives a fuck about BTM at this very moment? Have some compassion you insensitive motherfucker. Imagine being homeless .. do you think Mark has any capacity for anything else other than survival? Keep it real dude!!!

It is vague. "in a bad situation" "getting it sorted out" "probably on a daily basis."  "supposed to be done or very close to being done." None of these statements actually tell me anything about the current progress of Bitmark.

As for Mark himself, he has proven and admitted that he lies compulsively to cover his own fuckups. I'm not yet convinced that he's actually homeless, much less working on the code he says he's working on. Call me insensitive if you want, but until I see proof of progress, I will take all of his words with a grain of salt. "Fool me once, shame on you..." and all that.
.

Everything he's claimed has been independently verified by Medic, Neleonele, and Batesresearch. I understand why you're skeptical though, so is everyone else.

Leathan recently mentioned that he's been working on some stuff related to Bitmark. He's was away for a couple of months but he's just come back.

As far as other people working on things, I assume it's a similar situation as it was before: people are waiting for some of the basic building blocks of marking to build off of, like the multi-use wallet app that will hopefully materialize at some point in the near future.

This is from slack #general and will hopefully answer some questions:
(I'm assuming this is ok to post since it's all in a public channel. If someone wants to take it down let me know.)

markpfennig: Hi @androidicus, good to see you.

[21:26] markpfennig: also @emdje, hello

[21:26] emdje: Hi @markpfennig how is your situation, a little better? (edited)

[21:27] emdje: we heared that both you and leathan are in a tough spot

[21:27] markpfennig: It's looking positive. I believe Victor and Nele have been forwarding updates as to my status, perhaps best if I give a quick overview to clarify and confirm.

[21:27] markpfennig: I haven't heard of leathan's difficulties yet, hope to speak to him soon.

[21:27] emdje: His internet is flaky so he will be on and off

[21:28] emdje: But how is your internet, because if I understood correctly you finished MUWA and just needed internet to upload it? At least that is the message that came trough

[21:30] markpfennig: As for myself, yes somewhat.  I split with my partner and moved in to homeless accommodation, then elance through a spanner in the works and limited both my and a clients accounts, blocking access for me to accept new jobs, receive payments, and access money already paid.  So I've been in a limbo situation for the past couple of weeks, right at the most critical time.

I've had limited internet access, in he public library, you can "lease" sessions on computers for an hour at a time, and the connection is limited to only http/https port being open. No internet cafes, no plces with hotdesks to work from - it's been quite surprising how backwards the town I'm staying in is actually.

[21:31] markpfennig: The more positive news, is that I've had an office on hold for me for a couple of weeks that just needed paid, and my clients and I have worked out a way for them to pay me direct which means I can get in and working from the middle of this week, which is a huge relief.

[21:32] emdje: I can imagine that is a relief

[21:32] emdje: But can you confirm that MUWA is finished?

[21:32] emdje: (no disrespect to your situation and the shittyness of that)

[21:32] markpfennig: Indeed MUWA is done, to a fault, in that I finished it off offline, and am aware there will be some mistakes and faults when it's ran for the first time. once I'm in to the office and settled, I'll have some spare time each day where I can work on crypto things dring the week, and get it uploaded and working, then take steps forward from there.

[21:33] markpfennig: It's fine @emdje, it's long overdue, and I'm very aware that my own mistakes and circumstances have had negative knock on effects on the community here, for which I'm deeply sorry.

[21:35] emdje: Make sure that when you have the opportunity to upload it, even when it is not finished and not working, it would really boost morale

[21:35] markpfennig: In respect to that, I've been working with a counsellor/psychologist over the past few weeks, and feel I've got to the root causes of my own personal issues, and resolved them mentally.  I'm in a much better place mentally and very positive for the future, just waiting for my situation to catch up, and positive steps made to show have some impact!

[21:35] emdje: good to hear

[21:36] pabloangello: hello markpfennig

[21:36] pabloangello: I had a feeling

[21:37] markpfennig: @emdje I will, the community here really needs a boost and some stability, which I promise I will provide along with others.  Trying very hard to reverse the negative steps and work backwards to bring every aspect of life back to a good place.  Bitmark included.

[21:37] markpfennig: Two things I do need to say

[21:38] markpfennig: 1) I have been online and checking in near daily, and certainly daily the past week or so - I should have done that here too, and will from now on, rather than having middle men forward status.

[21:40] markpfennig: 2) I did manage to fuck up quite a few areas of my life, and am balancing time to put them all back in order.  It will be a slow progress to put Bitmark right, but hopefully it'll build momentum along the way.  Trying to say that it'll be impossible for me to be here full time on the project, but I will do check in each day, with either something positive, or just a quick touch base to say "on other things today, but here for questions if anybody needs me"

[21:41] emdje: I think that is quite reasonable

[21:41] emdje: Just make sure to stay in communication

[21:42] markpfennig: It's all I can do!  finding that straight transparent communication is really helping move forward, and to avoid my previous pitfalls.

[21:42] markpfennig: I can shed some light on that if it would help?

[21:42] markpfennig: I'll say it anyway, it may help others

[21:42] androidicus: @markpfennig: speaking as someone who has, over the years, fucked up many areas and periods of my life - :tipshat: to you and I empathise entirely - the hugely positive thing is to see you here, now, and 'speaking' with determination to move forward... (edited)

[21:47] markpfennig: full background context (thanks to Stephen my Psychologist for helping get to the root of this one!):
I've had a problem with lying, not all my life, but getting worse for a few years.  Tracing it back we managed to figure out that early on in my relationship with my wife (she'd had a bad life previously) I'd tried to take on a night in shining armour role with her.  Part of that meant, that if something negative happened or I made a mistake, that I felt I could fix without her having to know or worry about, that I'd just get on and fix whatever it was.  After that working several times it developed in to a pattern.

The problem was that when the fix didn't work out, I'd then withheld the truth, which could lead to a lie, then perhaps another and so forth, making a small negative thing in to a big negative and personal issue, with implications on trust and all sorts of things.  Over time, this spilled in to other areas of my life, and led ultimately to the mess here.

99% of it was effect, the cause, was not just instantly sharing bad news or mistakes, combined with underestimating her ability to cope with any negative things.

[21:48] markpfennig: So by addressing that, saying exact status all the time in all aspects of life, prevents that cycle of withholding truth which leads to lying.  It's something I've implemented, and to be honest has had an amazing change on all fronts.  It threw me for about a week afterward just seeing how such a small change could have such huge effects.

[21:48] markpfennig: @androidicus: very determined to move forward - and very glad to see many still here.

[21:49] markpfennig: I must give a huge thanks to you all, with some special thanks to victor, nele, bates and some others who have all been a huge help and support through this time.

[21:54] androidicus: I think that there are many still here is testament to the quality and potential that was envisioned at the project's genesis and in the halcyonic early days brimming with ideas and innovation. That so many have maintained faith in the project and in spite of much angst, frustration, and even ill-will; there has been amongst many an unerring belief that 'something' would happen, given time...

[21:55] emdje: I think it is very brave of you to open yourself up like this (don't know if this is proper english :stuck_out_tongue: )

[21:55] androidicus: Perfect emdje!

[22:01] markpfennig: It helps to be able to see the former mistakes with clarity.  They led to a lot of negativity.  countless times.

[22:02] markpfennig: Melvin often said, I was one of the flakiest guys he knows, but if I do even 1% of what's suggested it'll be great.

[22:02] markpfennig: The flakyness, and all bad perceptions, stemmed from these faults, and were compounded by some other factors.

[22:03] markpfennig: For example, I'd struggle with a little something in some code, and just say "yes a couple of things left and it'll be up in 2 days" (hiding the truth, choosing that I'd just fix it and all would be good) the root of the mistakes.

[22:04] markpfennig: Then something else would go wrong in a different, often stemming from the same causes, I'd miss the 2 day deadlines I'd set myself, lie to cover it up or make an excuse, and repeat

[22:05] markpfennig: Compounding this, were the effects it had at home.  Also even just working from home, my family felt I was always on the computer, and I felt I was always interrupted. led to 16 hour days where only a couple of them were put to good use, and the rest fire fighting or switching between things, negative tie with family

[22:05] markpfennig: repeat that long enough and you end up in a huge mess

[22:05] markpfennig: all those issues are resolved a the core now, all aspects of life will improve "enough" as a knock on effect

[22:06] markpfennig: and hopefully we can get back to "halcyonic early days brimming with ideas and innovation" as @androidicus said

[22:06] androidicus:
>always on the computer
Now, where have I heard that said... I wonder...

[22:06] markpfennig: indeed, and feeling like always fire fighting things.

[22:08] markpfennig: looking forward to having that clear separation between work and other aspects of life.  My PC will be in the office, when I walk in their dedicated work time with no distractions.  When I leave it's gone until the next day with dedicated personal / family time (as that front improves)

[22:08] markpfennig: @batesresearch: is organizing a 3g/4g device for me until I can get one myself, so I'll soon have comms outside of office hours.  'll be able to discuss things, but not do anything about them till the following day. (edited)

[22:09] androidicus: It's all sounding good... the separation aspect ~ work/life balance ~ is key

[22:09] emdje: Good to keep it structure and clear to everyone

[22:10] markpfennig: +1 to you both.

[22:10] markpfennig: I have about 5 minutes remaining, so need to close up conversations.

[22:11] markpfennig: I'll check in each working day from here though, whatever the circumstance.

[22:11] androidicus: @markpfennig: In short then, great to see you here and +10 for ALL updates - take care

[22:12] markpfennig: Thanks!

[22:14] markpfennig: Quickly clarify personal circumstance:  Office ready mid week.  Personally I'm 2 weeks behind and have access to zero funds.  I'm going to be doing ~20 hours on the work I'm behind with for the next 2 weeks, and 20 hours on a new job to keep some earning coming in.  I do have funds I just can't access them until elance verify my clients account, hopefully this week.  Expect slow but steady progress over the next two weeks, with me caught up and moving forward properly 13 days from now.  I will be online a little each day, and priority on spare time is for muwa to be up and working.

[22:14] markpfennig: okay, tc, speak tomorrow

[22:14] androidicus: :tipshat:

[22:16] emdje: thanks mark for the explanation, again kudos for opening up

[22:18] coinecollector: Lol. Shakeout people for cheap coins then return. Scam scam scam

[22:26] coinecollector: @markpfennig your false promises have cost people alot of money. People that would happily help out with your financial problems (if true) had you only been honest. Hope it's feels good

[22:37] androidicus: @coinecollector: you may well be right; only time will tell. For my part, and it is only my opinion, having lost money when coinex disappeared, and when mywl.it disappeared - neither of those actors showed their faces again...

[22:37] markpfennig: @coinecollector: I understand your frustration, and how it can seem like that.  However through being transparent and open for a while now, I have had every detail of everything I've said completely verified by multiple parties, who would be quick to correct should I say anything false here.

[22:38] androidicus: I have been involved since about page 10 of the BCT thread and have a genuine belief that Mark/Nathan is not out to scam anyone

[22:39] markpfennig: I'll need to follow on tomorrow.  @medic and @neleonele and @batesresearch no every single detail and have verified them, feel free to confirm anything

[22:39] markpfennig: no/know

[22:39] androidicus: That he is here at all and attempting to face his demons is good enough for me right now

[22:40] neleonele: Woohoo,mark is here...

[22:40] neleonele: welcome back  Nathan!
