1021  Economy / Gambling / Re: Whats happening with Betnomi? on: October 02, 2023, 09:27:48 AM
Btw, I just checked, and they have reappeared on LinkedIn.: ~snip~
But what could it mean? I have no idea.
AFAIK, Sorsis has never disappeared from LinkedIn. When were you unable to find his LinkedIn profile? What I have seen is, his LinkedIn 'followers' and 'connections' have increased since the downtime of Betnomi website. However, their official LinkedIn profile has been deleted at the end of July month.

It's over, they finally deleted their public Linkedin page.
https://www.linkedin.com/company/betnomi
Everything was working few days ago: ~

Sorsis disappeared from LinkedIn about the same time. Or, at least it was like that to me. I had been checking all Betnomi related info once a week, and it was a good news for me that Sorsis reappeared on LinkedIn. Also, seeing this today

instead of this scary message

that we had been seeing for quite a while, is a relief for me.
1022  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: who Want To Bet On 2024 USA elections? on: October 02, 2023, 08:12:55 AM
~snip~
It may seem "weird" for us, non-experts, but it doesn't mean it's wrong. My thoughts: if they are doing it like this in the most powerful country in the world, maybe we should learn from them?

It does have quite a number of issues. You can have a look at them here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elections_in_the_United_States#Criticisms

It's by no means the best electoral system in the world, I don't even think it ranks very high at all worldwide.

Also, following your thoughts, why the whole world uses metric system and the US doesn't? Maybe the US should learn from the world.

First of all, thanks for providing the link to Wikipedia! I'm tired of seeing that people who are against the USA are simultaneously against Wikipedia also. The fact that Wikipedia is an authoritative source for you is a big plus. It is impossible(or, at least, very hard)to have a dialogue with people who don't respect Wikipedia. Now, of course, there are flaws in the electoral system in the United States. I didn't mean to say it's flawless. And, of course, I think the US should use metric system like the rest of the world. A lot of Americans think that too.

Because I am aware of how many individuals struggle to stop doing what they are addicted to, and how some people find it quite difficult to communicate to others about it, people who are able to overcome addiction deserve praise. If you are unable to solve the problem yourself, it is best to get professional assistance so that you can protect yourself against similar issues in the future.  And one thing I've noticed about addicts is that once they want to stop, they get more motivated and sometimes even stronger, especially after a success. then they will interpret the victory as a sign not to quite. Eventually, everything will be in the hands of an expert if they keep refusing to acknowledge that they have a problem.

People who are able to overcome their addiction, with the help of professional, or without it just by themselves, deserve praise, no doubt about it. They should be heroes in the eyes of all gamblers, and, to be honest, in the eyes of all people, because there are many harmful addictions and many people are struggling to get rid of them.
1024  Economy / Economics / Re: Real estate vs cryptocurrencies vs business on: October 01, 2023, 11:51:29 AM
Well, they're all assets, they're all great investment plans with great risks acquainted with them all.
I'd divide $500k like this;
- Bitcoin = $150k
-Real estate = $150k
- Business = $200k

I'm more of a business enthusiast. Profit gotten from the business can be reinvested.
And someone might say... " there's a high probability of the business failing". All businesses fail, and some just decide to get up again.
And besides, like said from the start,  they all have their risks.

You would divide $500k like this, okay, but the question is when you would do it? Suppose you'd do it 10 years ago. What would bring you more profit, investing in Bitcoin at the time, in real estate, or business? Honestly, what would bring you more profit than investing in BTC when the price was $150 for 1 BTC?

https://twitter.com/WhaleWire/status/1705776976089256341?t=PtzaGiRaDcbdjzwFDYF3Bg&s=19

There is data from WhaleWire regarding the surge in corporate bankruptcy filings which reached the same level as past economic crises such as the Great Recession in 2008 and the pandemic in 2020. This certainly raises concerns for the world economy.

And periods like this historically occur before significant stock market crashes. Will this affect the price of BTC too. If the entire market falls, does it rule out the possibility that there will be a sell off too? and of course BTC will also be affected?

Share your opinion

If it happens, it will affect BTC price, but, I think, in positive ways. If fiat currencies lose their value, it's only logical to accumulate Bitcoin in times like that. Why it should be affected negatively I don't understand. One of its purposes is to serve people during economic crisis in their countries, to help them to survive. Remember Zimbabwean trillions? If Bitcoin was around at that time many people would be saved financially.
1026  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Will you cheat in gambling? on: October 01, 2023, 09:26:34 AM
~  and millions of innocent souls that don't know how to resist are watching Aladdin, where the protagonist is a thief wanting to marry a princess. What do you expect from kids raised by such garbage?

I couldn't relate to this before but right now I do understand why my mother keeps telling me not to watch those kinds of movies as you can't get anything and all you learn is bad things. I am also not a fan of movies but I do prefer documentaries or anything from which we can learn a lesson. You are right that people will watch a movie based on its fame and how trending it is but all you can get is wasting your time watching it.

All of us are already big and can decide and we already know what we are doing so if ever we have kids then that is the time that we should let them watch only those movies that are satisfactory to them and when they can learn.

Yes. Where they can learn basic rules like cheating is bad, things like that. It will help them a lot in the future because modern civilization is building honest world, a world where people are helping each other, and this world doesn't favour cheaters.

~ I blame books and movies.~

I will only partly agree that you blame the books and movies. I believe when a movie or a book is announced. Perhaps it has already been reviewed and approved. Some films accurately reflect today's society, ''the government always deceives the people, the robbers are the ones who stand up to protect justice''. Filmmakers are exposing the truth in society. They are satirizing and condemning those dirty actions. Sometimes, we need to fully understand the message that the filmmaker or book wants to convey to us.

''the government always deceives the people" doesn't reflect today's society in general, it reflects the society in those underdeveloped countries where, unfortunately, this is still the reality. Come together and throw off your government, and start building a country where it is worth living, like the rest of the civilized world. Don't believe your dictators that the rest of the world even worse than your place. It's just not true. Visit Europe and you'll see.
1027  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: How will you feel if it happens to you just like this? on: October 01, 2023, 08:28:34 AM
I'm sure it's very difficult. if we only have some money then want to gamble completely. So how do we buy the necessities for our lives or our families? then when using it with a 50% win ratio what if it loses? even if it wins are we sure not to come back to play? I'm sure many of us want to continue playing after winning. Even I myself have not found a big win and then stopped.

Yes, casinos know this very well, and the moment a gambler wins big they will be quick to celebrate with them, and the casino will bring them some free food and drinks so that they stay longer, because they know that eventually the gambler will lose it all to the casino.

And after winning, the gambler will feel like being in the top of the world and will want to replicate their win.

Unfortunately, the most probable thing to happen to the gambler next is to lose all their money instead, which is why the casino wants them to stay for as long as possible.

It happens often, but surely not always. The probability of losing is just slightly higher than  that of winning, so the casino can't  know for sure that if the gambler stays longer he'll lose all his money. We all know that there were cases when very lucky gamblers were asked to leave and were forbidden from entering the casino again. In some cases those gamblers were cheaters, but often they were just lucky and stupid casino managers were afraid of them winning more and more. All this was happening in the past and in land-based casinos. Today online casinos are rather interested in someone's winning big on their platform. Word will spread and more people will be playing on their site, and the volume will do its job for them.

Your past losses may not be on the books, but they are in your thoughts. Should we expect gamblers' choices to be unaffected by past failures? Gamblers who dont review their mistakes set themselves up for failure.

It involves understanding why you lost and avoiding the same mistakes, not merely taking notes on winning tactics. Dont even mention money-wasting gamblers. They appear to have been brainwashed to believe they are unstoppable, only to fall further each time. This isnt a game. This is real life, and it has serious consequences.

The only mistake a gambler playing games of chance can make is risking more than he/she can afford to lose. It's important to understand that there's no other mistakes. If you lost a lot on Sunday, it's not right to think "I shouldn't play on Sundays, because I lose a lot on Sundays". If you lost a lot on a slot by a legit provider, it's not right to think "I shouldn't play on this slot" or "I shouldn't play on slots by this provider". You lost a lot because you staked a lot, and that's it. That was your only mistake.

Obviously, it is specifically for Pluribus, but surely the others also behave a similar way, not requiring analyzing the specific opponent's gameplay first. Let's refer to it from the Pluribus paper itself.

The main strategy that Pluribus employ is to use self-play (plays the game with copies of themselves). DeepStack and Libratus also use it. The result of the training strategy is used to play the real game, in the meantime, also adjusting to the state of the game to seek the best move.[1]

The way how works is resource intensive, it requires "~completing its blueprint strategy in eight days using just 12,400 core hours and 28 cores during live play." and since it is a successful algorithm, the researcher decided not to publicly publish the code.[2]

[1] https://www.science.org/doi/10.1126/science.aay2400#sec-2
[2] https://arstechnica.com/science/2019/07/facebook-ai-pluribus-defeats-top-poker-professionals-in-6-player-texas-holdem/

I'm going to read it carefully this time. Thanks. But from the first glance, I see: "Playing more than 5,000 hands each time", "... for 10,000 hands"... Doesn't that mean "studying the opponent plays for hours"? I mean, to me, it does.

But, as I said, although I read those articles 3-4 years ago, I think I should read them more carefully this time. Thank you again for the links.
1030  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is this the path you should take to become successful? on: September 30, 2023, 12:09:38 PM
"In order to be successful, you have to find out what makes you excited. What makes you wanna get up each morning and go to work? If you love what you do and dedicate yourself to your work, you will gain that momentum and each success will create another success. Never quit, never give up. Do something you love. When you do something that you love, you'll never fail. What you are going to do is give it a shot again and again and again. You're ultimately going to be successful." - Donald John Trump

Some say he's an Idiot but something he says sometimes makes sense. LOL. What do you think about it? Is it some way to manipulate people or that's the right thing to do?

Yeah, sure. If you have a billionaire father behind you, you can open a business, lose a couple of millions with  that, and open another. Fail with that business too and, no problem, start another one. And so on until, whatever idiot you are, you eventually succeed by chance. This is business advice: Don't listen to Donald John Trump, guys.

That's what I'm trying to say. You can calculate the theoretical probabilities without resorting to any tests, but if you want to check how does a particular slot work in reality, you need to make simulations at least, and that's where you simulate millions of rolls, or your data will be unreliable otherwise.

Exactly.

But also we know that most gamblers are basically superstitious and ignore the odds, so they would pick a slot machine by how it feels, or trying to pick one that is "due".

I wonder if casinos are less crowded on days like 13, 4, etc.

Definitely less crowded on those days, and I heard there's no rooms with those numbers in some hotels in Las Vegas either.

Here we go:
- Sweet Fiesta 1901x > https://replay.pragmaticplay.net/PZtnZapTTB
- Wild West Bounty 801x > https://replay.pragmaticplay.net/VjVxLG7CaA
- Sugar Twist 836x > https://replay.pragmaticplay.net/0h8gJZ0Dpu

Finally, I taste some sweet-sweet win Grin

What, 1901x? That's really a sweet-sweet win. Congrats!
Not trying to say that 801x is something mundane. You were very lucky with Pragmatic Play slots that day. That's impressive.
1032  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Has your Responsible Gambling had any of these Effects on You? on: September 30, 2023, 10:47:17 AM
Finding balance between work/relationships/hobbies (i.e. gambling) is important for your wallet and mental health for sure. When you have no budget or limit then the highs and lows, the uncertainty, the constant chase when gambling – it wears down both the spirit and the body over time. I have fun with it when i take every loss as expected and every win as a bonus. I think the only way to keep gambling as a pleasure activity is to go in with no expectation - that way you're always winning haha

Yep, that's how it should be. They say, "what's entertaining with losing money?" Well, nothing if just throw them away or give it to someone who scams you. But if you play on decent sites, you can win big, you can $200 out of your 20 cents bet(happened to me once). And that's entertaining. Playing with that possibility, even though very improbable, is entertaining, innit?
1033  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gender in Gambling [differences between Women and Men in Gambling] on: September 30, 2023, 09:25:06 AM
~
Yeah, even in male dominated games like poker, you can see that there are women also who are engage in this sports and maybe we can see them winning in the future as well.
~

They are winning already. Vanessa Selbst has won $12 million during her poker her poker career. Liv Boeree - almost $4 million. Maria Lampropoulos - almost $3 million. There are many others like Maria Ho, Vanessa Rousso ... There are so many of them women winning big money in poker that I mentioned only very famous(in my opinion) ones. Women are playing with men and manage to beat them sometimes. Check this out, for example:

Poker Goddess Destroys Everyone in $7,551,857 Final Table!
wow, that's a big win, actually women can be invincible when they manage to focus on what they are doing such as doing business and also gambling, ...

Same as men, right? If the level of education is the same, they can do the same, not worse and not better, just on the same level as men.

i have long noticed that there are quite a lot of women who are really very skilled at card games and also dice, they seem like having natural talent, but often their romance is very bad, well that's because usually women are like the women above, they don't depend on men and are independent, ...

You can't be skilled in dice games, it's impossible. It's against the rules of the universe. You can't master something that doesn't depend on your skills in the slightest.

... they fight to obey the rules that women have to take care of the family.

And they are pretty successful in that too. They don't have to take care of anything. They are free individuals.
1034  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Gamble Responsibly on: September 30, 2023, 03:58:10 AM

It is good to have self-control for everything, so we prevent things from getting out of hand. When a person has self-control, they do not overspend and control their emotions more and do not lose. What they lose is what they were predestined to do. That is, the casino will always be one of the ways in which we can get excited and have very strong emotions, because many things are activated within our body and it can make us happen or do things that sometimes we do not want within reason , but The emotion sometimes makes us play for ourselves because we have the hope of winning and that is only worse because if you lose , the problem is to recover the money, and you do not have to try to Recover the money inside the casino, because you lose more , many has happened to them.

Whether to recover the lost money or not, shouldn't be even a question. You don't think "How I will recover the money spent on the tickets?" after watching a film in a movie theater, right? Even if the film was bad, which would be the equivalent of losing some money to gambling, you don't start thinking how to recover the money. You just move on. Same approach to gambling will save you from troubles.
Very funny analogy but very true, the long and short of the whole thing is that, majority of gambler do not see or take gambling for what it is, and that is "having fun".

Majority of gamblers are just chasing after money, nothing else, and because of this, they never consider that fun part of gambling, they never find any gain in their losses, rather, they see it as loss, and nothing else but losses .
~

I don't know, I think you are talking about people who are problem gamblers, and they are not the majority, problem gamblers constitute about 5% to 6% of all gamblers. So, I think most gamblers are there for fun indeed. Of course they want to win, we all want to win, but if we lose $5-$6, or whatever, we don't chase our losses, we consider the lose money as spent on fun.

Someone who goes into a movie theater to watch a movie, paid for it and came out disappointed because the movie was a bad one, can not go asking for his money back because he or she already got served what he or she paid for, it's just that he or she doesn't like it for personal reasons.

If like you said, gamblers can apply this same mentality to their gambling activities, all will be well, that is' for example, when a gambler plays and lost, he or she can look and consider the fun he or she had playing as the profit, rather than just all the time, focusing on the money that was lost .

Exactly.

It's obviously a superstition that a lot of people have. They believe that they will lose a certain bet if they share it with someone else who is unlucky, and when they don't share their bets, they manage to win. It might have happened once or twice in their life coincidentally and now they think that it is actually something. Some people have utterly foolish superstitions about gambling and you start getting annoyed when you see or hear about them.

A lot of people believe that they win in gambling during a certain hour within the day and they also believe that this certain hour works better on a specific day within the week, and I find that stupid because your luck doesn't have a time and gambling is completely based on one's luck.

Yes, it's a very dangerous situation when following your superstitious beliefs you win coincidentally and then you believe in that crap even stronger. It's better for you to lose all the time than this.

~
I think it's true that basketball players themselves also have some belief that they bring their luck charms while playing the game and win. It gives them the motivation or at least they believe they'll win when they have those jewelry with them.

I don't want to support superstitions, but I think it's important to note that there is a big difference between superstitious gamblers and superstitious athletes. The former are just dumb. Since the outcome of the game does not depend on their mood in any way, it doesn't matter how they feel. With athletes, on the other hand, their mood is important. So, if they believe, even wrongly, that something might help them win, it can improve their spirits and indeed help them win.

I was such a big fan of Money Train 2 that Money Train 3, when it was realesed a year ago, didn't impress me at first. I even wrote a big post about how I disliked the new characters and stuff, and it took some time before I started playing Money Train 3 more and more and realized I was wrong with my criticism, the game is awesome. ... But Money Train 4, I fell in love with it from the first try.

1039  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: [POLL] Using AI to predict outcomes on: September 26, 2023, 11:44:23 AM
The current ChatGPT version only has 2022 data iirc so you're better off using Bard AI if you want to test out an AI's prediction on sports, Bard's still in experimental stage so tread lightly when you plan to use it for real.

OMG, you are right! I just checked and indeed Bard's knowledge is up to date:

I didn't know that, thank you! Have you tried to use Bard for predicting outcomes?

Regarding the morality of using AI for sportsbetting I think that it's not a bad idea to use them especially if it helps you put in perspective on the teams you want to bet on but using AI to bet blindly, I think it's stupid.

There's nothing immoral in using AI for sportsbetting. Unless it's forbidden by the site, you are good to go. But I undeerstand why the question arises. Anything new encounters suspicion and hostility at first. Like using zippers instead of buttons was considered "infernal" by some.
1040  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: do you lose on slots? on: September 26, 2023, 10:48:30 AM

I would love to say this is the sad truth but how do you explain that the slot provider and I am talking exactly about Pragmatic Play they know exactly where you left off and even if you come back after some days the slot continue where you lastly left off.In the case you hit the max win or near it chances are almost non existent that you will hit it again as the game knows that you just won this amount even if you come let's say 1 week back after your initial win,how do this provider know where we left off despite that have been several days that we didn't play that game?

Not only with Pragmatic Play, I think it happens with all slots, and I see nothing strange with it at all. It doesn't mean they "remember" your past winnings and adjust your future spins accordingly. They are not programmed to do that. All spins are random. Actually I like that the end of your last spin is where you start next time. It can be very useful. Once I lost internet connection right after hitting a bonus round. And I was very happy that the next day when I opened the slot the bonus roud continued.

-snip-
There are such times, I agree with you, but it's not like slots are programmed that way. It's just bad luck. Coming back again on a different day will not change anything. You can win big on the same day when you had a losing streak, and you can lose again on a different day, and then on another day too. It all depends solely on luck.

However, many people think that the luck of each account is different. What do you think about this? Does luck depend on the account?
I don't know, I'm personally not sure about that. Because, the random process provided by the system does not favor certain accounts. That's what I thought. because no matter how many players change accounts, if he don't get bonuses and jackpots it will be same and it will be useless to have several accounts.

No, it doesn't. Regulators wouldn't allow that.
