Changed my score from 1-1 to 2-2 before the game but regretting it now. Game has been pretty boring and they've cancelled each other out. It's nil nil at half time but Chelsea just had a player sent off right before the break so I think Liverpool will probably nick it now. I'm predicting 1 or 2 -0 to them.

Edit: Mane just scored. 1-0. Great goal and header as well.

Gone for the home win on the last game at Leicester.

Sooo...  Once Gareth Bale is back what's gonna happen to Son?  He's playing do well rn and I think he'll continue to do so if given more minutes by Mou.

I guess he'll be playing right flank?

I dunno what he'll do but I doubt they'll bench him. He's just scored four goals in the Southampton game. Didn't expect this from Spurs. Son seems to be quite diverse in where he can play so I'm sure they can move him elsewhere to accommodate Bale:

Quote
Son is known for his ability to use both feet equally well, and his powerful and accurate shooting. He often plays as a second striker but he can also play as a winger, striker and attacking midfielder; he has even been deployed as a wing-back on occasion. Son has confirmed this, saying, "I don't care where I play. The main thing is I'm in the game. I can play as a second striker or behind. Whatever the coach says, I'll do. I don't have a favorite position. I'll be anywhere and always on the throttle."

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Son_Heung-min

Seems he can play with both feet as well:

Son's 20 goals this season:

Quote
Scored 5 at home with his left foot
Scored 5 at home with his right foot
Scored 5 away with his left foot
Scored 5 away with his right foot

https://www.sportbible.com/football/reactions-take-a-bow-news-son-heung-mins-goalscoring-record-proves-he-hasnt-got-a-weak-foot-20190420

Maybe put Bale and Kane up front and Son behind them or on the wing. He's never struck me as being an out and out striker anyway. Could bench Lucas Moura also.

man, superbru didn't save my Saints - Spurs pick, ffs! i was sure i submitted 1 - 1 and it saved :/ guess i'll get a default pick, prolly a Spurs win?

I'm not sure how they pick them. It might have something to do with who picks the outcome the most which would be Spurs in this case.

Quote
If a player has not submitted picks for a particular game or round he/she may qualify for default picks depending on the allocation of defaults for the tournament. A default pick is not an automatic point - it is only awarded if the default team wins. We use the default pick system because we don't want people who miss a game or two to feel like they've fallen behind and that there's not much point in continuing. We think the default safety net is reasonable, especially because it's tightly controlled by a limited number of defaults being available for each tournament. Long-term defaulting gets you nowhere and regular defaulters will quickly fall down the rankings.

https://superbru.reamaze.com/kb/picks/why-do-you-award-points-if-a-player-does-not-make-their-picks

Not sure what to go for on the Spurs game today. Tempted on the draw but Spurs should be able to take them but I've no confidence in them.
almost HT and home team looked really sharp when attacking, well-deserved 1-0 lead...but Spurs weren't too bad, Kane got 2 goals disallowed, but it looks like their whole gameplan is long balls and counter attacks, no build up plays, no ball possesion, reminds of Mou's man united with Lukaku as striker
edit* and as soon as i post this, Son scores from a counter attack  Roll Eyes 1-1

Spurs are in the lead now with 30 minutes to go. Not watching it so can't comment on the game but I went for the 0-0 so all I can get is a point from the draw now.
1044  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: September 20, 2020, 10:46:35 AM
Here are 2 out of my 4 tickets for today, avoiding Man Utd on purpose, something feels a bit wrong about this match for me.

Good call. I backed them to win but I should have avoided them now in retrospect.

Wtf is going on at the Everton vs WBA match?  I'm not watching the game but it seems like there's a few LOL_Ancelloti moments in there.

There was a lol moment with Bilic when he got sent off.

New season but it's old shitty Manchester United. Lost on their home ground lol. This defender Maguire cost them 83million lol. How they bought it? Because of English Media hype.

Thank god didn't put any money on them.

I had no idea they paid that much for him. He's bang average in my opinion. I also have no idea how he became their captain but that just goes to show you what sort of team they are these days.

For unknown reasons there are targeted criticism at Maguire, is it his cost as a defender? or pure hatred vibes?
The entire Manchester united team were total shambles from start to finish. Fosu-mensah was no where to be found for the first goal, while Shaw left his marker with over 4 yards of space; meanwhile Lindelof was guilty for all 3 goals, for the first and third goal, he was bungled out of a tackle he should have won two times, and got unfortunate with a ball to hand situation.

I just don't think he's that good, but Man U aren't great right now either. He didn't even make the current England squad which says a lot.

New season but it's old shitty Manchester United. Lost on their home ground lol. This defender Maguire cost them 83million lol. How they bought it? Because of English Media hype.

Nothing will change until they get a proper manager in with a track record of being successful, winning trophies. How the hell Solksjaer got the job, I don’t know. He is nowhere near qualified enough to get that position. Man Utd won’t be getting anywhere near the title for a good few years.

It doesn't matter what manager they have; it's the shitty team. They've already had managers who won stuff but they just sack them as soon as they lose a few games.

I hate these seasons when the market is still open during the League.

The transfer market? It's always open at the start of the season as far as I'm aware. Personally I think it should close before the league starts. Teams shouldn't be having new players come in during it in my opinion.

Is Bale already playing today for the Spurs? Transfer was only confirmed yesterday, so I doubt that he'll be on the pitch today already. Probably some Covid-tests have to be taken first?! But even without Bale, I see Tottenham as the favourites in todays match.

No. He's already out for a month with an injiury:

https://metro.co.uk/2020/09/18/gareth-bale-out-for-at-least-a-month-with-current-knee-injury-13293803/

This guy seems to always either be injured or on the bench. I wonder if Spurs are regretting this signing already. 12 million for a year is a huge sum. Would only make sense if they manage to get him for free when his Real contract expires.

It’s really tough but the first week means nothing. The leaderboard only really starts to take shape after maybe 10 games for each team.
Oh, I certainly hope so, but at the same time I have a strong feeling that people who are currently in the top will remain in the top. We moved down on the leaderboard based on yesterday's matches, and my hope for this round is lost. But I've just made the picks for round 3, and it seems to me that there are some matches where at least the outcome is not that hard to predict. That is, if you don't count Sheffield United vs Leeds United because Leeds did unexpectedly well against Liverpool, showing that this team is not to be underestimated.

I doubt it. The table will probably look completely different to what it is now. Every user has good and bad weeks and sometimes you can hit streaks of both. It's not uncommon to get next to zero points in some rounds but you can still do pretty well. I started off well last season, then spent a lot of it mid table, finally managed to get myself into a top 5 spot then lost it on the final round to finish eight. Just do your best and don't worry too much about what others are doing.

United are so frustrating they couldn't even give me the full 3 points with my 2-1 pick, they just had to go and let Zaha score again huh? And didn't they want to buy him from Palace this season? Anyway, I'm surprised not more people picked Palace, United were supposedly awful in preseason. I didn't watch the match though but stats say more attempts came from London team.

United were terrible. Really didn't think they would have trouble getting the win here. I'm think Ollie will be the odds on the first to go, though I don't think he's to blame.
1046  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 19, 2020, 04:19:31 PM
I've gone for all home wins today. Interestingly enough nobody backed either West Brom or Fulham to win.

~

i'm expecting a draw in Chelsea - Liverpool, how about u guys?

~

I am quite confident that Liverpool will smash Chelsea in that game with a handicap advantage, my pool pick is 1:3, but I will change that to 0:2 maybe, I have still not locked that pick

I don't think they will smash them. I think it could be pretty close. Depends on the line-ups. It's definitely the game to watch this weekend. Could be a lot of goals though maybe not as many to match the first games today.

From what I've saw first week and based on feeling for the Manchester teams, I am starting the weekend with this betslip

I wouldn't have gone with Palace to score, though with this being United's first game this season who knows what could happen. I just need them to win today for my three fold.

Leeds are entertaining to watch but they really need to tighten up at the back. This is 7 goals now conceded in 2 games, if they defend like his all season they will have trouble.

Doesn't matter if they can score more than the opposition  Cheesy. They've conceded two very harsh penalties though that arguably shouldn't have been given. They've been playing much better than expected but they do really need to strengthen their defence as they certainly have no trouble scoring goals.
1047  Other / Meta / Re: Proposal for making these threads sticky in "Beginners & Help" section. on: September 17, 2020, 06:35:37 PM
There's already four stickies in Beginners and Help which include some of the information you're posting about, but adding more stickies will probably just mean more people are less likely to read them as people get confused or just don't bother checking them out if they're bombarded with too info. Maybe some of the threads could be merged but as discussed in a recent thread we should be giving new users this info upon sign up which will avoid a lot of confusion and threads being created asking basic things.
1048  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: disable Press board & lock topics unattended by OPs in past months on: September 17, 2020, 06:29:05 PM
Thank you all for sharing your opinions! But how about the second suggestion? Nobody said anything about that. Do you think it would prevent the spam if the mods would close topics left unattended by the authors for long time?

Probably far too much effort and work unless theymos can automate it, but if someone has something valid and relevant to say then I don't think we should automatically prohibit them from doing so. There is a warning when someone tries to post in threads older than 120 days, but for spammy necrobumps just report them like Loyce said.
1049  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: September 17, 2020, 05:04:19 PM
Nice. Sergio Reguilon is going to Spurs with his as well. Didn't think this would happen but I guess Real caved and figured they might as well let someone pay a little of his wages rather than keep him on the bench the entire season. I wonder if he'll be ready to play in the game on Sunday. Seems a bit of a stretch but the article says he's flying over on Friday. Spurs probably won't need him for Southampton but losing to Watford last weekend doesn't give me that much faith in them.

I must say Mourinho is playing the transfer game smart. Signing Sergio Reguilon and at the same time bringing Bale on loan from Real Madrid is really smart. Spurs attacking also kinda seemed to have gone off for sometime now. I am glad they brought in Bale to do something about attacking.

Regarding availability I also think it would take sometime to roll them in match. Players have yet to undergo medical, sign their contracts and club has yet to make it official so I think it would take more time so yeah seems doubtful for match against Southampton.

The medical has already been done in Spain, but not having been able to train with the team would be an issue so they probably won't rush him in and then there's his fitness levels, but like I said above it's not exactly a vital game nor should it be tough for them. It will be interesting to see what the details of the deal are and how much he's leaving for. The Standard are quoting Spurs paying 15 million for a year:

https://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/gareth-bale-tottenham-transfer-news-latest-real-madrid-loan-fee-wages-medical-a4549781.html

Quote
In any case, it is understood Spurs will pay around £15m all in to have Bale for a year, including all wages and fees for the duration.

That's still a lot of money and works out at well over a million a month so maybe Real will technically be making some money from him this season.

If anyone still wants to join the pool it's not too late. A new user just joined and he got some automatic points. It's only four but that's 0.5 more than I've got right now  Cheesy. Superbru gives all users 15 'default' picks if you miss any games where it backs the winner for you so you can take advantage of that and overtake me in the process  : Grin.

Pot is at 0.35564980 with 0.1 for first place with many more prizes to be won and a free Watford shirt so it's a steal either way.

I can't see Spurs being up to much this season. I think Kane will leave when his contract is up. There's talk of Bale going back to Spurs and I'm not sure how happy Kane will be with that if it does happen. I still need to watch that Amazon Spurs series. They've been pretty good so far and am looking forward to the second series of Leeds United Take Us Home which is out tomorrow and I recommend watching if you haven't already.

Indeed, it seems that Tottenham will need some changes to achieve some wins. If Kane leaves the club, I don't know what the club's future will be? I also think Bale's return to the club would be beneficial to the improvement of the squad.

Looks like Gareth Bale is on his way back to Spurs along with Sergio Reguilón:

https://www.theguardian.com/football/2020/sep/17/gareth-bale-flying-with-reguilon-to-seal-spurs-loan-after-undergoing-medical

I'm sure that will give them a big boost. I'm looking forward to him actually playing some football.

Still looking to find out who PLSbre is if they can PM me if they see this.
1052  Other / Meta / Re: Suggestion: disable Press board & lock topics unattended by OPs in past months on: September 17, 2020, 03:36:01 PM
That would be a part of the solution, yes. But it is hard to define what is notable and what is not, as you don't have a proper metric. Even if a publication would be considered in a select circle of respectable sources, this wouldn't automatically mean that all its articles are notable, right?

On the other hand, spammers would continue to exist. And they could farm their accounts by posting just articles from Guardian...

It's not that hard. Any crypto-based sites should be disallowed (or given their own sub but I would prefer we didn't allow them) as they're certainly not notable. Personally I think that board has served it's purpose now. It was created when any press article was notable but now articles are dime a dozen in the mainstream and even more so when there's now entire news websites dedicated to crpyto that post them multiple times daily. If the board is to stay then we at least should prohibit crypto sites as they're certainly not notable.
1053  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: The UFC Info and Prediction Thread on: September 17, 2020, 03:16:54 PM
Did anyone see the weekend's Bellator card? I only watched the highlights but there was one of the worse crotch shots I'd ever seen in the headliner fight between Raymond Daniels and Peter Stanonik. Daniel's did a spinning back kick right to the dick then he went and did another one straight after which was even worse: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zb72ZwYhKTE
My goodness, that was painful to watch. The fight should have ended after the first spinning kick. Really stupid for the other guy to do the same thing just seconds after the fight resumed. He must have been sparring with shorter fighters when he was practicing that.

To be honest the fighter could have called it of but he wanted to carry on. I've seen quite a few low blows with the spinning back kicks... you can't really blame the other fighter that much though as you can't really aim them that well with with your back turned so sometimes this happens.

Good card for UFC 253..

It's pretty good. Not sure what Cowboy is doing as the penultimate fight though. He didn't even make the main card last time and got KFO by McGregor within a minute. Speaking of McGregor did anyone see his latest shenanigans of getting arrested for alleged indecent exposure: https://www.irishmirror.ie/sport/ufc/conor-mcgregor-arrested-pictures-show-22676879

He really needs to return to fighting or his legacy will be ruined at this point. He could have been one of the greats but he left too early for that in my opinion. He should just sign a whopping contract for three fights or something. Diaz trilogy, maybe Gamebred and then the Khabib rematch. Every single one of them would be the biggest PPVs in UFC history.
1054  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Premier League Prediction Thread 2020/2021 on: September 17, 2020, 03:00:24 PM
Gareth Bale finally will return to Spurs, first as a one-year loan contract. With Bale, Spurs will have to speedy wingers, he and Son. With them, Mr. Special will build up a classic offense system with 3 players: Kane (striker), Bale and Son as 2 wingers. They remind me about Robben and Duff in Chelsea. Kane is much different than Drogba but he is a top striker in Europe and Premier League.

Still looking to find out who PLSbre is in the pool if they can PM me if they see this. No response on superbru yet.

We have 49 subscribers in the pool and the number of yellow hats is 38, so anyone who wants to have one or more should think carefully before making any predictions.

By the way, luck was on the side of rdbase in the first round and I also hope to be lucky in one of the next rounds and enjoy the free slot. We thank the official sponsor of the sportsbet group.

I warn you all, Spurs will be making some amazing wins when we least expect it and win me a yellow cap one of these days (I wish).

Luck is everything in football after you have used up skill and determination,,, on the pitch we saw two penalties for Liverpool to win. And we saw Spurs somehow not being able to score, or Kane missing a tap in by half an inch. Small margins and luck,,,

I can't see Spurs being up to much this season. I think Kane will leave when his contract is up. 1056  Other / Meta / Re: Does Vod deserve VIP status? on: September 16, 2020, 03:54:49 PM
I don't think people should be given VIP status based on the current system. There should be more ranks though... or Legendary is made harder to get by requiring much more activity and/or merit. That would at least set users apart as its become quite common to be a Legendary now and the people who attained that rank before the merit system got it pretty easy just by making sure they posted once in 56 periods. At least if we required a high amount of merit people would have at least earned that rank and it would mean something special and become worth of its name. It would be nice to see an additional rank though for users that do attain an exceptional amount of it (Exceptional Member?  Grin) and with 3234 Activity and 2649 Merit maybe Vod would qualify. Maybe 2000 Merit and 2000 Activity would be a good benchmark.

Congrats rdbase.

@hilariousetc Can we have a list of who(Superbru Username) is who(Btt Username)?

Most are the same as their names here. A few don't use the forum and one person doesn't want his superbru account linked on there with here (not sure why but that's up to them). If anyone wants to state their name here if it's different they can do so but for most it's obvious.

I got my yellow cap! Grin

jeremypwr said to PM Sportsbet Steve about the free bet. Not sure if he meant on here or Superbru.
1058  Economy / Gambling discussion / Re: Sportsbet.io's English Premier League Football Pool Discussion Thread on: September 15, 2020, 03:56:36 PM
So my question is how many yellow caps do you need to really make a dent in the prize pool? Smiley

As I didn't know you receive one for reaching 1st every week and remember someone saying (I think it was bitcoingirl) who mentioned we needed 18 games correctly predicted to have a hat donned on you.

There are no magic numbers regarding the yellow caps and every tournament is different based on the results people get. You could get a yellow cap with a mere point if everybody else failed to pick a correct outcome. You could end up with more yellow caps than anyone else but still not win a paid slot if your other round results aren't great as it's all about consistency. Winning a few yellow caps won't mean much (other than the free bets) if you're not consistent throughout the league.

Does anyone know who PLSbre is on the pool? Messaged him on superbru but no response as of yet.

^re Sofascore is also what I use as I follow a number of "exotic leagues" and they seem to have a handle even on the most obscure friendlies and leagues but I personally use Livescores app when I'm on the move and want to "watch" the game. They have a sort of text/image visual of team movements and commentary, albeit with a minute delay or so.

Superbru does have a lot of sports and football leagues and it's a nice clean layout. Skybet have the pitchview visuals along with some basic commentary as well but there's not much of a delay as far as I'm aware.

Wait what...?  There's 50 bucks worth of free bets for every yellow cap?  How do I get it?

Surely you've answered your own question there? Cheesy You get the bet by being the yellow cap.
1060  Other / Meta / Re: theymos. Please pin the thread "Writing a welcome message" in Meta or B&H on: September 15, 2020, 07:12:06 AM
Any Global mod or sub mod of that board (if it had one) can sticky threads, but it needs more than stickying as many Newbies will either miss it or ignore it so they need to be directed to it. Having too many stickies can also have the opposite effect as if there's loads of them new users are even more likely to not bother reading them as it's often confusing or just an overload of information. I can speak from personal experience when you join a new site and you're instructed to read the 5 stickies in each board that contain everything you need to know and it's often confusing and a headache hence why most people wont bother or gloss over it at best. That's why I suggested the welcome message to be as concise as possible with the basic information and links to other threads in further detail so they can read up on that stuff if they wish but aren't bombarded with it right away which is always going to be off-putting.
