Everyone holds either one of 2 ideas about death - nothing happens, or you go to an afterlife. But the the idea that makes the most sense to me, is that you are reborn instantly and re-live the same life an infinite number of times. If the universe is infinite, so is everything else in it. The big bang eventually collapses again, and the chain of patterns repeat. We've been here forever, and always will be.

How is that the idea that makes the most sense to you?  The one that seems most likely is we die and then we're just dead.
Maybe we die and we vanish, but i still think that has to be an "afterlife",and in my view that in that afterlife is that we reborn,we born, we live, we die and reborn again........

U smokin dope n postin on da forums again??
I am not smoking nothing,is it that bad to have a question of what happens after you die?You did ask yourself or others what happens to you after you give your last breath?
1043  Other / Off-topic / Re: Is time a circle? on: June 26, 2014, 12:12:15 PM
maybe if you are a ghost. Ghosts are the ones condemned to circle through the same things over and over alll the life.

Hope some of us scape to the ghost fade
Not all the souls are condemned to become a ghost, only the ones that didn't accomplish their mission here on the earth, and they can't pass to the next level. You can find more here:

Well, that explains  deja vue, but you cannot re-live the same life over and over again, unless when you die you are instantly reborn at the exact time and date of your initial birth.

How does that theory account for population changes, human advances, and recorded environmental changes, ie. history. If everything stays the same, there is no change. If there is no change, then I should have had the internet, HDTV, and a cell phone at my birth. Since I did not, it must be subject to change. If it is subject to change, then you cannot repeat a prior life for infinity.
I think you misunderstood what I was trying to say.
The big bang explodes, eventually creates us, then eventually gets pulled back into a giant black hole. The process repeats itself and infinite number of times.

This trailer is just epic. The music and the action was really beautiful. Seeing the Assassins come out like that and work together made me grin like an idiot. I definitely am interested in this game. I just hope that co-op will be bearable.

To want understand who we are within a larger context is universal.  I could not disagree more  that intellect plays no part in religion...that is just an ignorant statement on its face making it also ironic.
While religion and philosophy are not the same thing, there is an intellectual exercise with both that are similar as they grappling with the meaning of life, ultimate truth, etc.  Just because conclusions differ (between philosophers or  between religionists/non religionists) does not mean those who walk their respective paths do not use their brain to get or stay on one.  If one has ever actually studied philosophy or any major religion in depth, it is not an exercise for dummies.
Reducing what you never learned down to the absurd so you can reject it does not a genius make.

Thwaites glacier is one of a number of massive west Antarctic glaciers...all of which have been found to more unstable than the past, including the ones without changing geothermal influences.

Depending what stage of life women are in, determines what they want out of life.  When women are young, they want freedom, independence, strength and power, and to find the love of their life.  Later, when are young mother,  want peace, financial security, a bright future for their children, and a partner to help they raise them to maturity.  As an older women, they want comfort, ease in living, good health and the security of accumulated wealth and to enjoy the company of family and friends . .......Oh, yeah, good sex too!  LOL

the smartest scientists in the world can barely understand quantum mechanics.no.
lots of scientists understand quantum mechanics. nowadays, lots of grad students do too.
They understand the basics, yes, but there are many things they cannot explain yet. They can't explain the double slit theory, quantum entanglement, what exactly a string is, etc. I've even heard a scientist say in an interview "no one really understands it."

The point being, will humans ever be smart enough to comprehend everything in the quantum world, and other dimensions, or will they have to use computers to comprehend that stuff for them?

It will be similar to how layman and scientist are now. We can't comprehend half of the stuff that scientists can but we trust their intelligence. If scientists use quantum supercomputers to figure things out, the supercomputers will become the new scientists, and the scientists will become the laymen. The next step in understanding is to mind meld with the computers.

Right now we use tools for understanding the universe - math, the scientific method. But what if we didn't have to use tools, the tools would be part of our brain that would calculate math and conduct experiments in real time? If they can make powerful enough supercomputers that do this, we would become the computer and be all knowing. Maybe they could even view the universe in all dimensions.

Actually - fuck computers, if computers are so advance maybe they can figure out a way to make biological brains that operate faster than supercomputers. Brains that operate on the quantum level!?
1051  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 25, 2014, 11:40:32 AM
AHA! Proof that Obama did it....absolute proof...the emails are missing, Obama is black...he did it.
Jesus, look , anyone can stipulate that the lost emails smell bad and seem unbelievable...that takes three seconds.
But after that it takes a person with reasoning skills to grasp that an investigation will take place and if the IT experts are right, then the emails will be found somewhere in the system. Or, they will be located by those who sent or received them...remember, each e-mail is at two locations.
1052  Other / Politics & Society / Do you think humans will eventually evolve into robots? on: June 25, 2014, 10:33:29 AM
Once they figure out how to fingerprint your consciousness with all your memories onto a hard-drive, they just transfer it to a robot body when you die. Human intelligence has a limit, the smartest scientists in the world can barely understand quantum mechanics. In order for human intelligence to improve, you have to upgrade the hardware (brain). First they use supercomputers to figure things out, then they will start putting computers in our brains (cyborgs), the final step is completely becoming a computer. But what do the robots evolve into after that?
1053  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Fifa Bosses 'Secretly Doubled Their Salaries' on: June 24, 2014, 05:40:57 PM
Moving the proverbial goalposts was never going to solve anything, because corrupt organisations like FIFA will just find the next best way to abuse their position to get rich. As long as they have no one to answer to, this bullshit will continue.
1054  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Thoughts on religion for a Sunday morning on: June 24, 2014, 05:24:26 PM
What a bleak existence it must be to feel that life has no meaning beyond its superficial and temporary earthly manifestation.

Bleak?
It's actually quite the opposite. It is actually liberating.
Realizing that there is no afterlife or heaven or earth or valhalla after death, a person can focus on the life they have now, instead of holding themselves back because they are worried about not getting into [insert_preferred_afterlife_here].

As for the argument that we need religion to have morality... I think people who only do good deeds and not bad ones just because they are scared of "hell" are not good people at all!  Lips sealed
Are they saying that if they didn't believe in hell they'd go berserk?  Grin

I do good because i feel it ,not because i am afraid that i will go in hell .Now depends on each person how understands God or a religion. As for afterlife ,i believe it has to be something after we die, maybe not heaven ,maybe not hell......

People take their religion very seriously but seldom are capable of following the rules and regulations of the belief.
Religion isn't for the perfect. It is for the imperfect, like me for instance.

Quote
Most man made religions are profoundly silly such as Christianity and Islam.
Says someone who believes the entire universe just happened out of essentially nothing and for no particular reason. Okay.

Quote
Religion and intellect are not and will never be compatible.
Many of the greatest minds of history were people of faith and they didn't seem to find any incompatibility between their accomplishments and their beliefs.

Quote
Much of religion is based on fear.
I disagree. I believe most religion is a natural attempt to understand the complexity of the universe and to form the basis for a moral, just, and kind society. Understanding that there is a power greater than oneself and knowing that spiritual power can be engaged with doesn't result in or come from fear.

What a bleak existence it must be to feel that life has no meaning beyond its superficial and temporary earthly manifestation.

In a time where people would lose their heads for saying god wasn't really do you really believe the smartest people on the planet believed what came out of their mouths?
OK you kinda lost me a bit but I think I understand what you are trying to say,  Anyone who has any kind of opinion will likely believe of what they are saying no matter if there smart or not intellectual.
1056  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are political parties necessary? on: June 24, 2014, 04:41:57 PM
There's some good things in the Communist manifesto but look at what the followers did to it. Ideals are meaningless unless people follow them. The way I read the Tea party they mostly hate their fellow conservative and want to shut the government down if they can`t get what they want.
1057  Other / Politics & Society / Re: Are political parties necessary? on: June 24, 2014, 04:25:15 PM
Political parties being necessary, I believe it is a natural phenomenon for people of like interests and beliefs to join together as there is the feeling that strength in numbers will help to promote the issues one cherishes. What I have a problem with is when the parties try to take on too many issues (the platforms go on and on) and be everything to everyone. A simple underlying philosophy rather than a menu of interest group pandering points would be more appealing to me.
Political parties are probably necessary. I am not a member of any of them. I have, in the past, been a member of the Democratic Party and the Libertarian Party. Neither really were a good fit and I have no desire to formalize a relationship with the Republicans although they are more likely to reflect my beliefs, at least superficially, than the others. Where they lose me is when they take the advice of liberals who tell them where they are going wrong and how they will be more successful by adopting lukewarm versions of Democrat policies. Like that will work. I prefer a sharper contrast.
1058  Other / Politics & Society / Re: IRS claims it has LOST two years' worth of emails from former official Lerner on: June 24, 2014, 03:33:48 PM
Since it's obvious that this is some sort of coverup that would require two years of emails needed for the investigation to be wiped out at multiple levels, why do you think such a thing would be done?  I'm not saying it goes straight to the president, but it would stand to reason that it goes pretty high up the food chain, don't you think?  Otherwise, how and why would it be done?
There is no evidence of a cover-up at this point, though that may later be determined. So assigning blame to an unproven charge is, may i suggest, not very honest.

As I said, this isn't something that could be "lost" unintentionally.  Do you think government computer networks are like your home PC where you might accidentally throw something in the little trash bin?
We know the email are missing. We find that difficult to appreciate. We investigate. We learn the results. Then we draw conclusions.
You seem to prefer we know the emails are missing...conspiracy!

Look at the world, the whole world. Now look at the nations that islam has built and compare them to the nations that Christianity built. Where would you rather live and what religion would you prefer to live with?

Actually, Indonesia is pretty peaceful.  They've had a few incidents over the years but Ive never felt anything but safe and welcome in Indonesia.  The people are more friendly to me than they are here at home by a wide margin and Ive been all over the main muslim places like Makassar on Sulawesi.  I love it there.  Id go almost anywhere in Indonesia in a heartbeat.
You see roses and perfection, but that's not the reality. I'm surprised that you are so taken with that country while declaring the US a racist and discriminatory country.

And since those articles appeared I can provide you ten articles of violent public and/or school shootings in the United States that have killed more people than in any of those presented in your links.   Should I be saying....what a violent and horrible place the US is?.
The privileged white male speaks. You feel safer there than you do in your own neighborhood, maybe its because Indonesians understand your superior maleness and white privilege. Its not hard to believe you enjoy a country where women are treated as the lesser being and rapes and violent crimes against women are ignored.
